Rahul’s Appeal For Stay On Conviction Dismissed

A Surat court on Thursday dismissed the application filed by Rahul Gandhi in which the Congress leader had sought a stay on his conviction in the 2019 criminal defamation case on the ‘Modi surname’ remark.

Former Wayanad MP will now have to appeal in Gujarat High Court or Supreme Court against the Surat court’s order.
Earlier on April 3, the Surat Sessions Court granted bail to the Congress leader, who had filed an appeal following his conviction in the case.

While granting bail to the former MP, the court also issued notices to complainant Purnesh Modi and the state government on the Congress leader’s plea for a stay on his conviction. It heard both parties and then reserved the order for April 20.

Rahul Gandhi was a Lok Sabha MP from Wayanad but was disqualified after a lower court in Surat sentenced him to two years in jail on March 23 under sections 499 and 500 (defamation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in a case filed by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Purnesh Modi.

The case pertained to a remark Rahul Gandhi made using the surname ‘Modi’ while addressing a campaign event ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

At a rally in Karnataka’s Kolar in April 2019, Rahul, in a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said,

“How come all the thieves have Modi as the common surname?”.

Following his conviction, Rahul was disqualified as an MP on March 24, as per a Supreme Court ruling in 2013. Under the ruling, any MP or MLA is automatically disqualified if convicted and sentenced to two years or more. (ANI)

They Have Become So Desperate: Modi on ‘Kabr Khudegi’ Remark

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) social justice is not just a political but the party follows it in letter and in spirit.

While addressing the BJP workers on the party’s 44th Foundation Day, PM Modi said, “BJP is working with the mantra of Sabka Saath-Sabka Vikas-Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayas. We have always given topmost priority to social justice and empowerment in our hearts and working style. Social justice is not a part of political sloganeering for us but an article of faith for us.”
He added, “BJP lives social justice…follows it in letter and spirit. Getting 80 crore people free ration is a reflection of social justice. The facility of free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh to 50 crores poor without discrimination is a strong expression of social justice.”

I firmly believe that the devotion, dedication and power of our Karyakartas, and our Mantra of ‘Nation First’ will keep inspiring us!

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Stalin had on Monday said that the struggle for the attainment of social justice is not an issue of a single state. Presiding over the first All India Federation for Social Justice, which brought together leaders of different political parties on a virtual platform, Stalin attacked the ruling BJP saying those who backed the idea of a single concept vis-a-vis faith and language among others were against social justice.

Meanwhile in his address today, PM Modi also lashed out at the Congress over its dynastic politics, PM Modi, “Today BJP is leading a new political culture in the country and what is the culture of Congress and other parties like it? All these parties are hostages of familyism, dynasty, casteism and regionalism, whereas BJP’s political culture is to take every countryman along.”

Prime Minister Modi said that the Opposition never imagined that Article 370 would be history one day. “Seeing their corrupt deeds exposed, people with imperial mindset are filled with frustration, so now these people have openly started threatening to dig Modi’s grave,” he said

“They cannot digest the work BJP is doing. Today, they have become so desperate that they have openly started saying ‘Modi teri kabr khudegi’. But I want to say that these people will keep on conspiring against us but they don’t know that poor, deprived, dalits, tribals are protecting the lotus.”

He further stated that BJP has made the mantra of the nation first their ideal. BJP took birth from the womb of democracy, is nourished by the nectar of democracy and BJP is working day and night for the country with dedication while strengthening the country’s democracy and constitution, he stated.

“BJP is the party for which the nation has always been paramount. One India-Best India whose faith has been the main mantra. When Jana Sangh was born, we did not have much political experience, nor did we have the means… nor the resources, but we had devotion towards the motherland and the power of democracy, he said.

He further said, “Our dedication is to Mother India… Our dedication is to the crores of people of the country… Our dedication is to the Constitution of the country. Today BJP is synonymous with development and faith… it is synonymous with new ideas and is playing its role as a main servant in the country’s victory journey.”

He added that from the beginning, BJP has deep faith in the intellect and values of the people of the country, which is herself the ‘Mother of Democracy. He further added that this faith has been strengthening more and more, day by day.

All we had was ‘Maatr Bhumi Ki Bhakti’ and ‘Lok Tantra Ki Shakti’, i.e. the ‘Devotion for the Motherland’ and ‘Power of the Democracy’, he said.

He stated that Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’ has been the Mantra and goal for the Bharatiya Janata Party. When Jan Sangh was born, we had neither much political experience nor enough resources, he further stated.

April 6 marks the BJP’s 44th foundation day and the party has organised various programmes right from the booth level.

Further, the ruling party at the Centre will screen Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech at 10 lakh places across the country on Thursday.

Then Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech will be played at BJP offices across the country. BJP leaders, office bearers and workers will gather at party offices to listen to PM Modi’s speech. (ANI)

“not even a penny to date has been proven i took in last 15 years. but what is clearly proven i created the greatest #sporting event in this world that has generated close to 100 billion dollars. let not 1 one #congress leader forget that from early 1950’s the #modi-family has done more for them and our country then they can ever imagine. i too have done more then can ever dream of doing. so keep barking scam tainted looters of india like the very own Gandhi family,” the embattled IPL founder tweeted.

Lalit Modi is the man who is credited for conceptualising IPL and under his tenure, the second edition was played in South Africa due to Lok Sabha Elections in 2009.

“We are using Artificial Intelligence for this and through this technology, photos come up during the search process,” an official told ANI.

It’s not just leaders or MPs who can access the feature.

As of now, the AI-process can track a photograph up to 30 days old but this will soon trace photos that are much older, sources said.

“For MPs and leaders it’s easy to trace their photographs but for others who have no way to get access to their photographs, this is phenomenal,” an MP told ANI.

Ukrainian MP Quotes Modi’s ‘This Is Not An Era Of War’ Remark

Ukrainian MP Quotes Modi’s ‘This Is Not An Era Of War’ Remark

Ukrainian Member of Parliament Vadym Halaichuk quoted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks, “This is not an era of war,” regarding the Russia-Ukraine war.

Earlier, on the sidelines of the SCO summit in Samarkand on September 16, PM Modi said “today’s era isn’t of war” while emphasising the need to find ways to address the problems of food, fuel security and fertilizers.
In an interview with ANI on Wednesday, Halaichuk said, “We are grateful to the phrase of PM Modi ‘This is not an era of war’. Given the weight and capabilities of India economically, politically and militarily, we are absolutely sure that Russia would have to listen to that message.”

“Unfortunately, they (Russians) didn’t show any understanding, so we hope that message will be repeated that it becomes obvious to Russians that they don’t have any support to continue the war,” he added.

This remark came as the Russia-Ukraine war is soon to complete one year and still, both countries are facing tremendous problems.

Halaichuk recalled the February 24, 2022 time when Russia launched its special military operation in Ukraine and said that when he woke up on that day, the bombs started falling all over the country.

Bombs were dropped on civilian infrastructure as Russia believed it to scare everybody in Ukraine and beat the civilians but that wasn’t achieved, he said adding, “Ukraine is stronger now.”

“With the help of the international community, we’ve to fight the aggressor. We don’t believe Russia has shown any seriousness in ceasing the attack. No negotiations right now about ceasefire as we don’t see any desire on the Russian part for serious negotiation,” a Ukrainian MP said.

Referring to the Russian President’s recent speech in Moscow’s federal assembly, Halaichuk said that Putin’s recent speech demonstrated that Kremlin doesn’t have any intentions to de-escalate and start negotiations and it is threatening the world with Russia abandoning the nuclear arms restriction which is a wrong way to respond to what’s going on.

Meanwhile on Monday, in Ukraine, Head of the Office of the Ukrainian President Andriy Yermak, and National Security Advisor to the Indian Prime Minister Ajit Kumar Doval discussed the Ukrainian Peace Plan, a ten-point Peace Formula that provides comprehensive answers to the question of what needs to be done to end the war in a sustainable and just manner.

According to Yermak, Ukraine continues to fight on the battlefield, but at the same time has proposed a peace plan. The draft resolution on support for the principles of the UN Charter, which form the basis of the Ukrainian Peace Formula, will be considered by the UN General Assembly on February 23, according to the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s official website. No Hurry To Be CM, Goal Is To Finish BJP By 2024: Tejashwi

Stating that he was in “no hurry to become the chief minister,” Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav on Wednesday said their “ultimate goal is to eliminate the BJP by 2024.”

He also claimed that the Mahagathbandhan government is running smoothly under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

“I am not in a hurry to become CM, currently, Nitish Kumar is the Bihar CM and he is leading the Mahagadhbandan. Our ultimate goal is to eliminate BJP by 2024,” said Yadav.

When asked about former Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi considering his son for the Chief Minister’s post, Yadav said “There is nothing wrong with it as every father wants his son to be successful. Don’t you want your son to be more successful than you?”

Earlier, Tejashwi Yadav had also dismissed reports about Nitish Kumar’s desire to become Prime Minister and said that the veteran leader is focused on getting the opposition together for the upcoming Lok Sabha election.

“He (CM Nitish Kumar) is the CM and we are working under his guidance. The only agenda he has right now is bringing all opposition together. He has no desire to become the Prime Minister,” said Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav. (ANI)

BBC Documentary Is Politics: Jaishankar

BBC Documentary Is Politics: Jaishankar

“Actual politics” is being conducted “ostensibly as media” by people who do not have the “courage to come into political field,” External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar told ANI, alluding to the controversial BBC documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Terming the furore as “politics by another means,” Jaishankar, in an interview with ANI, said, “Sometime politics of India doesn’t even originate in its borders, it comes from outside.”
“We are not debating just a documentary or a speech that somebody gave in a European city or a newspaper edits somewhere — we are debating, actually politics, which is being conducted ostensibly as media — there is a phrase ‘war by other means’ this is politics by another means — I mean you will do a hatchet job, you want to do a hatchet job and say this is just another quest for truth which we decided after 20 years to put at this time,” he said.

Coming a year just before the Lok Sabha polls of 2024, the external affairs minister questioned the timing of the documentary.

“I mean, come on, you think timing is accidental! Let me tell you one thing – I don’t know if the election season has started in India, Delhi or not, but, for sure it has started in London, New York,” he added.

The BBC, in January, released a documentary film titled ‘India: The Modi Question,” that features the Gujarat riots of 2002. The film caused a controversy for alluding to PM Modi’s role in the riots whereas disregarding the Supreme Court clean chit to Narendra Modi.

“I mean, do you doubt it? Look who the cheerleaders are. What is happening is, just like I told you — this drip, drip, drip — how do you shape a very extremist image of India, of the government, of the BJP, of the Prime Minister. I mean, this has been going on for a decade, ” said Jaishankar when asked about some western media’s bias against PM Modi in India.

The EAM said that the motive behind planting such stories abroad is to further the anti-India agenda.

“Let’s not have illusions about it…, there is an echo chamber, it will be picked outside and then they will say it is being said outside, it must be true. Then you will say it inside. There is a ding-dong going on, look this is a globalized world, people take that politics abroad,” said the EAM.

He further asked, “Why suddenly there is a surge of reports and attention and views? I mean, were some of these things not happening earlier. Many things happened in Delhi in 1984, why don’t we see a documentary on that? If that was your concern, you suddenly feel one day, “I am very humanistic, I must get justice for people who have been wronged, ” said Jaishankar.

He further advised to not get fooled by such agendas and challenged the propagator to come in the political field.

“This is politics at play by people who do not have the courage to come into the political field. They want to have that teflon cover saying that I am an NGO, media organisation etc. They are playing politics,” Jaishankar asserted.

The EAM in his various interactions on multiple platforms abroad has hailed India’s democracy as a guiding force not just for the country but for the world to emulate. In the interview with ANI, the minister said that the people’s verdict will quell all the misconceptions.

“Among other things in a democracy – don’t you trust the ballot box, people’s verdict to be the final opinion? I do. I know there are certain people who believe that their view supersedes elections. Look, I like you, you win election–great democracy. I don’t like you win election. What are you — ‘electoral autocracy’. That’s reserved for people whom you don’t like to win elections. This is politics,” said Jaishankar. (ANI)

Assam Police Registers Case Against Pawan Khera

Congress Pawan Khera Mocks’ PM’s Name

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday hit out at Congress leader Pawan Khera for “mocking” the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and that of his father in relation to the opposition party’s allegations on the Adani issue.

Addressing a press conference on February 17, Khera attacked the government over the Hindenburg-Adani row.
Khera said when a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) could be set up by former Prime Ministers PV Narasimha Rao and Atal Bihari Vajpayee, “what is the problem of Narendra Gautamdas, sorry….Narendra Damodardas Modi”.

He is seen in the video asking if the PM’s name has “Gautamdas” or Damodardas and is told the correct name.

“Name is Damodardas but deeds are of Gautamdas,” Khera said. With a furore over his remarks, Khera later said in a tweet that he got confused.

“I genuinely got confused whether it is Damodardas or Gautam Das…,” Khera had said in his tweet on February 17.

BJP leader Amit Malviya hit out at Khera on Monday and said in a tweet that Congress has repeatedly targeted PM Modi for his humble origins and now they haven’t even spared his dead father.

“The Congress has repeatedly targeted PM Modi for his humble origins and now they haven’t even spared his dead father, who had nothing to do with politics… Congress’s deep seated sense of entitlement and disdain for a self made man doesn’t sit well with an aspirational India,” said Malviya, in-charge of BJP’s National Information & Technology Department.

Congress has been attacking the government daily over Hindenburg-Adani row. Congress and some other opposition parties have been pressing for a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe into the Hindenburg-Adani row. The party has accused the government of “running away from the demand”.

The US-based short-seller Hindenburg Research, in its report on January 24, raised concerns about shares of Adani group companies having a possibility of declining from their current levels owing to high valuations, “brazen stock manipulation” and “accounting fraud” among others.

The Adani Group had attacked Hindenburg as “an unethical short seller” and stated that the report by the New York-based entity was “nothing but a lie”.

Adani Group on January 29, in a long 413-page report, said the recent report by Hindenburg Research was not an attack on any specific company but a “calculated attack” on India, its growth story, and ambitions.

Home Minister Amit Shah had earlier said that BJP has nothing “to hide or be afraid of ” in the Hindenburg-Adani row. (ANI)
