Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal

If Sisodia Joins BJP Today, He Will Be Free Tomorrow: Kejriwal

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday attacked the BJP-led centre over the arrests of Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain and said that if Manish Sisodia joined BJP today, he will be released tomorrow.

While talking to ANI, Kejriwal said, “Two people who brought laurels to India have been jailed by the PM. The excise policy was just an excuse, there was no scam. PM wanted to stop good work in Delhi. Manish Sisodia was arrested as he did good work in education. Satyendar Jain was arrested as he did good work in health.”

“If Manish Sisodia joins BJP today, won’t he be released tomorrow? All cases will be withdrawn. If Satyendar Jain joins BJP today, all cases will be withdrawn and he’d be released from jail tomorrow. The issue isn’t corruption but stopping work and sending CBI-ED after the opposition,” he added.

In a major rejig in the Delhi cabinet necessitated by the resignations of Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has sent the names of Aam Aadmi Party MLAs Saurabh Bhardwaj and Atishi to Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena to be elevated as ministers, sources said on Wednesday.

The development comes after Sisodia, who headed 18 departments, and Jain, who has been in jail for months in a money laundering case, stepped down as ministers.

Sources on Tuesday had said the departments held by Sisodia will be redistributed to senior AAP leaders Kailash Gahlot and Raaj Kumar Anand.

“Sisodia held 18 departments, some of which will now be handled by Kailash Gahlot and the rest by Raaj Kumar Anand,” a source said on Tuesday.

Sisodia was earlier arrested by the CBI in connection with the Delhi excise policy case.

Sisodia was arrested on Sunday in an ongoing investigation of a case related to alleged irregularities in the framing and implementation of the new excise policy of the Delhi government.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court refused to entertain Sisodia’s plea challenging his arrest in the excise policy case.

A bench headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud said the top court is not inclined to entertain the petition at this stage, suggesting that Sisodia move the Delhi High Court.

“We cannot interfere in the matter as it may open the gate of people approaching the top court in every such matter,” the bench observed.

Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on Monday sent him to CBI custody for 5 days.

The CBI had also quizzed AAP leader Jain in Tihar Jail in connection with alleged corruption in the implementation of the now-junked Delhi Excise policy.

Jain is currently lodged in judicial custody in connection with a money laundering case registered by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

Recently, the CBI and ED made several arrests for alleged corruption in the implementation of the Delhi Excise Policy. (ANI)

BJP Intensifies Telangana Plan Of Holding Rallies In 119 Assembly Constituencies

BJP Intensifies Telangana Plan Of Holding Rallies In 119 Assembly Constituencies

Ahead of the Telangana Assembly polls which are scheduled to take place later this year, Bharatiya Janata Party president JP Nadda, Union Home minister Amit Shah held a crucial meeting to deliberate on poll preparedness and it has been decided to intensify party campaign as central leadership will hold meetings in all 119 assembly constituencies starting next month.

Bharatiya Janata Party’s central leadership including party president JP Nadda, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and others will hold public meetings.
Telangana BJP chief Bandi Sanjay on Tuesday urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to hold a meeting with freedom fighters, doctors and engineers who influence society on March 12 during his visit to the state.

According to Sanjay, around 3000 important people from various fields will gather at Shah’s meeting.

Sanjay urged Shah during a meeting chaired by BJP national president JP Nadda with Telangana leaders to chalk out a strategy for poll preparedness. The Union Home Minister was also present at the meeting.

Nadda and Shah presided over the meeting and reviewed the organisational activities in Telangana.

“We approach Amit shah to hold a meeting with freedom fighters, doctors and engineers who influence society in Telangana on March 12 as he is coming for an official meeting in Telangana,” said the Telangana BJP chief.

The meeting which was held at Nadda’s residence in the national capital lasted for around 4 hours.

The Telangana BJP chief briefed both the tall leaders on the successful completion of 11,000 Street Corner Meetings under the program named “Praja Gosa BJP Barosa” covering all 119 Assembly Constituencies.

The Party High-command was immensely pleased with the outcome and cohesiveness of the teamwork of the State Unit and shared its mind and thoughts with State leadership and directed them to undertake steps to strengthen the organization further. They have advised the State leadership to intensify the struggle against the KCR- led Telangana Government which is in the middle of corruption.

Sanjay said that the party will soon start public meetings in all 119 assembly constituencies.

“As Praja Gosha BJP Bharosa completed 11000 public meetings today, the BJP will soon start 1-1 public meetings on all 119 assembly constituencies. After that big meetings will take place in ten districts and senior central leadership like JP Nadda, Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh and others will hold them. After that big massive public meeting will be organised where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the public of Telangana,” he said.

Sanjay further said that said he will definitely raise all corruption issues of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and his family.

Addressing the media in Delhi, he said, “The Mood of the Telangana people tilted towards BJP as it is the only political party in Telangana responding in no time to the needs and issues of people so collectively and it is quietly established fact that BJP has emerged as an alternate to the BRS with firm and committed support of people as BRS is evidently involved in every scandal and corruption leading to looting of the state resources.”

He said that the economy of Telangana is on the verge of collapse due to wrong policies pursued by BRS and the vibrant syndicate of corrupt deals in every activity.

“It is an officially known fact that State has to pay Rs 3000 crore monthly interest on Rs 5.5 lakh crore external debt without any evidence of physical assets being developed. Hence, people in Telangana understood the gravitas of impending economic crisis is openly in support of BJP,” he added.

He said that BJP will contest on its own in all 119 assembly constituencies and it is a clear signal from the ground that BJP will bound to come to power in the 2023 Assembly Elections with the blessings of people.

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) realizing the emerging popular trend in favour of the BJP became jittery and panicky. Kavitha daughter of CM KCR is already charge sheeted in Delhi Liquor Scam hitting the image of BRS and KCR in particular,” said Sanjay.

He also said that BJP in Telangana state exposed the cosy nexus between BRS and Congress.

“We have successfully rebutted the campaign that BJP doesn’t have candidates in all constituencies- which was a ploy of both BRS and Congress,” he said.

While answering a question, he made it clear that BJP has no role in fixing the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC and Telangana Cheif Minister KCR’s daughter, K Kavitha and other AAP leaders as there is substantial evidence against them which will stand before the scrutiny of law.

“KCR failed to come up with reasonable argument and denial of his own daughter Kavitha in the infamous liquor case and whereas, he issued a public statement against the arrest of Manish Sisodia-is certainly ridiculous as he is still answerable to the People of Telangana. He reiterated that no such discussion took place in this regard with High command,” he added.

Telangana in-charge Tarun Chugh said that today’s meeting was fruitful.

“As today we completed our Praja Gosha BJP Bharosa 11,000 meeting, the high command appreciated our effort and also discussed the party’s further plan and strategy for upcoming polls,” he said.

P Sudhakar Reddy, Tamil Nadu CO- incharge, NEC member said that the agenda which take place at today’s meeting was the plan and strategy for upcoming polls.

“Public meetings, rallies and the booth strengthening programmes were discussed. At the meeting we also discussed how to bloom lotus in every Telangana house and also how to defeat the hitlershahi of KCR,” Reddy added.

BJP Telangana president Bandi Sanjay, BJP national Organization General Secretary BL Santhosh, National vice president of BJP DK Aruna, Nizamabad MP Arvind Dharampuri, Sudhakar Reddy-TN Co-incharge, K Laxman, G Kishan Reddy, Vijay Santhi, Vivek Venkatswamy, NEC member Etala Rajendran, G Mohan Rao and Muralidhar Rao and others were present at the meeting.

As per the sources, the first round of the meeting was held with Nadda, Shah and Sanjay for around 2 hours and after that, the second round of meetings was held with all the state leaders.

“The agenda which was discussed at today’s meeting was the plan and strategy of upcoming polls like big and small public meetings and rallies and the booth strengthening programme were discussed,” said the source.

At the meeting, the tall leaders also reviewed earlier important programme feedback like “Praja Gosa BJP Bharosa” and “Praja sangrama yatra”.

The party is running several programmes to connect with the people and increase its reach to the grassroots such as “Praja Gosha BJP Bharosa” and “Praja Sangram yatra” and through these campaigns, the party is getting massive positive responses from the public and as per the source, the party will discuss how to strengthen the party on booth level.

BJP has successfully undertaken 11000 public meeting outreach programmes in the state under Bandi Sanjay.

According to the sources, a state presidential election will be held soon as the BJP president Sanjay Bandi’s term is going to end in the first week of March, but another source from the party speculated that his term as the party President would be extended.

Earlier in the national executive meeting, Sanjay was the centre of attraction as Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the “Praja Sangram Yatra” and asked all the states to learn from his journey and appreciated his struggle and hard work. (ANI)

VP Dhankar Cautions On George Soros Agenda, BBC Documentary On Modi

VP Dhankar Cautions On George Soros Agenda, BBC Documentary On Modi

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar urged Indians to be cautious of billionaire investor George Soros’ agenda and BBC documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and asked them to be on guard from those “who are playing politics another way around.”

Addressing the inauguration of the Center for Innovation Facility at IIT Madras, Dhankhar said that the Supreme Court of India had given its judgement on PM Modi and his role in the 2002 Gujarat riots but “in the name of expression, can you run down the Supreme Court and the two decades of a thorough investigation.”
“For two decades. The issue was deliberated in judicial quarters. It was thoroughly investigated at all levels. The highest court of the land, the highest court of the largest democracy, pronounced on all fronts in 2022. Finally, we have a narrative being set up, float by a documentary. And some people say this is an expression, saying the name of the expression can you run down by Supreme Court? Can you run down two decades of thorough investigation? This is playing politics the other way around. When people choose to play politics the other way around, the young minds here and outside are intellectually equipped to challenge them.”

He further stated that there was one gentleman, who was using some money, and power. “He has some backers, he has some beneficiaries, he has some fiscal parasites. And they talk about our country’s democracy. I have been appalled, and pained. How can a sane mind compare us with a southern country without neighbours?” Vice President wondered.

Earlier, at the Munich Security Conference, Soros said, “Adani is accused of stock manipulation and his stock collapsed like a house of cards. Modi is silent on the subject, but he will have to answer questions from foreign investors and in Parliament.”

Terming Modi and Adani as “close allies,” whose “fate is intertwined”, the 92-year-old billionaire investor said, “This will significantly weaken Modi’s stranglehold on India’s federal government and open the door to push for much-needed institutional reforms.” “I may be naive, but I expect a democratic revival in India,” Soros said in his remarks delivered at the 2023 Munich Security Conference.

“I would therefore appeal to you if you have to take this country to 2047, vindicate the trust of the Founding Fathers, Please be on guard. Those who play politics, the other way around. They need to be combated and neutralized, and they must face your rational salvos,” Vice President added.

UK’s National broadcaster BBC aired a two-part series attacking PM Narendra Modi’s tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister during the Gujarat riots of 2002. The documentary sparked outrage and was removed from select platforms. (ANI)

Some protestors hurled eggs and water at police while the police resorted to lathi-charge.
They were protesting against Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik over ‘deteriorating’ law and order in the state.

Naba Kishore Das was shot at by a policeman in Brajarajnagar in the Jharsuguda district on January 29 and succumbed to his bullet injuries in Bhubaneswar hospital on the same day.

Venugopal said the report of Hinderburg and said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been selling the country’s important infrastructure to the Adani group.

“The recent Hindenburg report has exposed Prime Minister Modi and the BJP government’s policy of crony capitalism in favour of Adani. During deep economic distress, PM Modi has been selling the Nation’s critical infrastructure to the Adani group, bending India’s foreign policy and forcing public institutions like SBI and LIC to invest in the Adani group. The recent revelations have shown that crores of rupees of poor and middle-class people’s savings are at risk,” the Congress statement said.

K’taka: Modi Holds Roadshow In Belagavi

K’taka: Modi Holds Roadshow In Belagavi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was on a visit to poll-bound Karnataka, held a roadshow in Belagavi on Monday.

People queued up on both sides of the road through which the Prime Minister’s cavalcade passed and cheered for him. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers welcomed PM Modi showering petals on his convoy. Cultural dance performances were also organised alongside the road.
After the roadshow, Prime Minister Modi held a public rally where he laid the foundation stone and inaugurated multiple development projects worth more than Rs 2,700 crore in Belagavi.

He released the 13th installment amounting to about Rs 16,000 crore under PM-KISAN. The Prime Minister dedicated the redeveloped Belagavi Railway Station building to the nation. He also laid the foundation stone of six multi-village scheme projects under Jal Jeevan Mission.

While addressing the rally, PM Modi came down heavily on Congress and said the people of the country would give a befitting reply to the party which curses him to death.

Addressing the rally here, PM Modi said, “Congress thinks until Modi is alive their motives will not survive and that is why they all are saying ‘mar ja Modi, mar ja Modi’. And, some are saying ‘Modi teri kabad khudegi’ but the country is saying ‘Modi tera Kamal khilega’.

Taking a dig at the Congress, PM said that Mallikarjun Kharge is only a namesake president of the party as the world is aware who has the “remote control” of the party.

“I respect Mallikarjun Kharge ji a lot… Congress session was going on now. He is the most senior. Mallikarjun Kharge has served the public in whatever way possible. It was sunny, but Kharge ji did not get an umbrella as it was meant for someone else. I was disheartened to see how the most senior leader, the president of Congress has been disrespected by them. The world knows who has the remote control,” he said.

Since 2014, Prime Minister said the country is continuously moving towards a meaningful change in agriculture. “We are connecting agriculture with modernity,” he said.

PM Modi said, “We have transferred Rs 16,000 crore to farmers across the country and eliminated the middlemen. Had it been congress’ rule, over Rs 12,000-13,000 crore would have been lost out of Rs 16,000 crore.”

In 2014, PM Modi said India’s budget for agriculture was Rs 25,000 crore. He said the government have increased it to Rs 1.25 lakh crore in this year’s budget.

He said small farmers who were neglected for decades, are the priority of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government. Rs 2.5 lakh crore has been deposited through PM Kisan Samman Nidhi in the accounts of farmers.

Earlier on Monday, PM Modi laid the foundation stone and inaugurated multiple development projects worth more than Rs 3,600 crore at Shivamogga. He also inaugurated the Shivamogga Airport and took a walk-through of the facilities.

The Prime Minister further laid the foundation stone for two railway projects in Shivamogga which include Shivamogga – Shikaripura – Ranebennur new Railway line and Koteganguru Railway coaching depot.

He also laid the foundation stone for multiple road development projects to be developed at a cumulative cost of more than Rs 215 crore. He also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of multi-village schemes worth more than Rs 950 crore under the Jal Jeevan Mission. He also inaugurated 44 Smart City Projects worth more than Rs 895 Crores in Shivamogga city.

Modi Inaugurates Airport, Development Projects In Karnataka

In a major infrastructure push, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone and inaugurated multiple development projects worth more than Rs 3,600 crore at Karnataka’s Shivamogga on Monday.

PM Modi inaugurated the Shivamogga Airport and took a walk-through of the facilities.

According to Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the new airport is developed at a cost of around Rs 450 crore. The Passenger Terminal Building of the airport can handle 300 passengers per hour and will improve connectivity and accessibility of Shivamogga and other neighbouring areas in the Malnad region.

Referring to the newly inaugurated airport in Shivamogga, the Prime Minister said that the needs of the citizens have been fulfilled today after a long time. Remarking on the splendid beauty and construction of the airport, the PM highlighted the amalgamation of the traditions and technology of Karnataka.

“It is not just an airport but a campaign where the dreams of the younger generations can take off,” he remarked.

The Prime Minister reiterated that the airport in Shivamogga is being inaugurated at a time when the enthusiasm for air travel is at an all-time high in India. He said, “only recently, Air India completed a deal to purchase the largest passenger aircraft in the world. Before 2014 during the Congress regime, Air India was generally discussed in a negative light and its identity had always been associated with scams where it was deemed a loss-making business model.”

Highlighting the Air India of today, the Prime Minister said it is recognized as the potential of the new India where it is soaring to the heights of success.

In view of expanding aviation market of India, PM Modi said the country will require thousands of aircraft in the near future where youth will be needed as a workforce. “Even though we are importing these aircraft today, the day is not far when the citizens of India will fly in Made in India passenger airplanes,” he emphasized.

The Prime Minister elaborated upon the policies of the government that have led to an unprecedented expansion of the aviation sector.

“Unlike the approach of previous governments, the current government pushed for airports in smaller cities. Till 2014, the country had 74 airports in the first seven decades of independence whereas in the last nine years, 74 more airports have been added, connecting many smaller cities,” he said.

The Prime Minister also mentioned the UDAN scheme for affordable air travel to realize his vision that “Hawai Chappal-wearing common citizens should be able to travel in Hawai Jahaj.”

PM Modi said that Shivamogga is a gateway to the Malenadu region which is famous for the Western Ghats and home to greenery, wildlife sanctuaries, rivers, the famous Jog Falls and Elephant Camp, Lion Safari in Simha Dham and the mountain ranges of Agumbe.

He said, “The new airport is going to open doors of development for Shivamogga, the land of nature, culture and agriculture.” Recalling the adage, the Prime Minister said that life remains incomplete for those who have not taken a dip in the Ganges and drank the water of the Tungabhadra river.

PM Modi further laid the foundation stone for two railway projects in Shivamogga. This includes Shivamogga – Shikaripura – Ranebennur new Railway line and Koteganguru Railway coaching depot.

The Shivamogga – Shikaripura – Ranebennur new Railway line, will be developed at a cost of Rs 990 crore and will provide enhanced connectivity of the Malnad region with the Bengaluru-Mumbai mainline. Koteganguru Railway coaching depot at Shivamogga city will be developed at a cost of more than Rs 100 crores to help start new trains from Shivamogga and decongest maintenance facilities at Bengaluru and Mysuru, said PMO statement.

The Prime Minister emphasized that Haveri and Davangere districts will also be benefitted when the Shivamogga – Shikaripura – Ranibennur new line is completed. He underlined that there will be no level crossing in this line making it a safe rail line where fast trains will be able to run smoothly.

He highlighted that the capacity of Kotagangaur station, which used to be a short halt station, will get a boost after the construction of a new coaching terminal. He said that it is now being developed with four railway lines, three platforms and a railway coaching depot.

Noting that Shivamogga is an educational hub of the region, the Prime Minister said the increased connectivity will make it easier for students from nearby regions to visit Shivamogga.

He also noted that it will open new doors for businesses and industries in the region.

“Infrastructure with good connectivity is going to create new employment opportunities in the entire region,” the Prime Minister said.

The Prime Minister said that the new airport will help in increasing tourism and resulting economic activity and employment opportunities. The rail connectivity will ensure new markets for the farmers, he added.

PM Modi also laid the foundation stone for multiple road development projects. The projects, which will be developed at a cumulative cost of more than Rs 215 crore, include the construction of a new Bypass road for Shikaripura Town on NH 766C connecting Byndur – Ranibennur; widening of NH-169A from Megaravalli to Agumbe; and construction of a new bridge at Bharathipura in Thirthahally Taluk on NH 169.

The Prime Minister said that the development of Karnataka is on the move. “This path of progress is paved by strides in roadways, airways (digital connectivity),” he remarked.

PM Modi said that the double-engine government of Karnataka is powering the chariot of the progress of Karnataka. The Prime Minister also highlighted the wider spread of development in Karnataka to villages and tier 2-3 cities under the double-engine government as opposed to the big city-centric development of the earlier times. “The development of Shivamogga is the result of this thinking process,” he said.

Prime Minister also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of multi-village schemes worth more than Rs 950 crore under the Jal Jeevan Mission during the programme. This includes the inauguration of one multi-village scheme for Gowthamapura and 127 other villages and laying the foundation stone for three other multi-village schemes to be developed at a total cost of more than Rs 860 crore. The four schemes will provide functional household piped water connections and are expected to benefit more than 4.4 lakh people.

PM Modi called the Jal Jeevan Mission in the region a big campaign to provide ease of living to women of Shivamogga. He informed that out of 3 lakh families in Shivamogga only 90,000 had tap water connections before the start of the Jal Jeevan Mission. Now, the double-engine government has provided tap water connections to 1.5 lakh families and work is going on to ensure saturation. In the last 3.5 years, 40 lakh families have received tap water connections.

“The double-engine government belongs to the villages, the poor, our mothers and sisters,” he said. Giving examples of toilets, gas connections and tapped water supply, the Prime Minister said that the government is trying to tackle all the problems related to the mothers and sisters. He reiterated that the double-engine government strives to make piped water available in every household with all honesty.

The Prime Minister further inaugurated 44 Smart City Projects worth more than Rs 895 crore in Shivamogga city. The projects include eight smart road packages of 110 km length; integrated command and control centre and multi-level car parking; smart bus shelter projects; an intelligent solid waste management system; development of heritage projects like Shivappa Naik Palace into an interactive museum, 90 conservancy lanes, creation of parks and riverfront development projects, among others.

Talking about the cultural richness of Shivamogga, the Prime Minister mentioned Rashtrakavi Kuvempu and the world’s only living Sanskrit village Mattur and many centres of faith in Shivamogga. He also mentioned the freedom struggle of Issuru village.

Mentioning the agricultural uniqueness of Shivamogga, the Prime Minister said that it is among the most fertile regions of the country. He touched upon the variety of the crops of the region. This agricultural wealth is getting a push by robust connectivity measures being undertaken by the double-engine government.

The Prime Minister remarked, “The people of Karnataka know very well that this is the Amrit Kaal of India, the time to make a developed India.”

He underlined that this is the first time in the history of India’s independence that such an opportunity has come knocking and India’s voice is being heard on the global stage. He noted that investors from all over the world want to invest in India and it benefits Karnataka and its youth. (ANI)

Modi Remembers Lata Didi, Bismillah Khan In Mann Ki Baat

In his 98th ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi touched upon a lot of topics while also declaring the winners of ‘Unity Day’ special three competitions.

Before announcing the name of the winners, Prime Minister Modi said, “Friends, you might remember that on Sardar Patel’s birth anniversary i.e. ‘Unity Day’, we talked of three competitions in ‘Mann Ki Baat’.

hese competitions — ‘Geet’ – Patriotic Songs, ‘Lullabies’ and ‘Rangoli’ — were held on this day. I am glad to inform you, that more than 5 lakh people from more than 700 districts across the country participated at these events enthusiastically. Children, adults and even the elderly enthusiastically participated and entries were sent in more than 20 languages. Many many congratulations to all the participants in these competitions from my side. Each one of you, in your own right, is a champion, and an art seeker. You all have shown how much love you have for the diversity and culture of your country.”
Remembering the late melody Queen Lata Mangeshkar, PM Modi said, “Friends, today on this occasion it is very natural for me to remember Lata Mangeshkar ji, Lata Didi. Because on the day this competition started, Lata Didi had urged the countrymen by tweeting that they must join in this endeavour.”

Later in his address, the Prime Minister also invoked Ustad Bismillah Khan while talking about how the popularity of some classical music instruments has decreased with time.

He also brought up Joydeep Mukherjee, an instrumentalist who was recently conferred with the ‘Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar’ — an award for emerging, talented artists in the field of music and performing arts.

He said, “My dear countrymen, whether it is about Banaras or the Shehnai or Ustad Bismillah Khan-ji, it is natural that my attention will be drawn in that direction. A few days ago, ‘Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar’ were conferred. These awards were given to emerging, talented artists in the field of music and performing arts. These, along with the rising popularity of the art and music world, are also contributing to their enrichment. These also include artistes who have breathed new life into instruments whose popularity had been dwindling with time.”

His remark was followed by a tune, after which Prime Minister Modi continued, “Do you know what instrument this is? It is possible that you may not be aware of it. The name of this musical instrumental mantra is ‘Sursingar’ and this tune has been composed by Joydeep Mukherjee. Joydeep-ji is one of our emerging, young artistes who has been honoured with the Ustad Bismillah Khan Award. Listening to the sweet notes of this instrument from the late 50s and 60s was starting to become a rare experience. But, Joydeep is now putting his heart and soul into restoring and persevering the Sursingar for our future generations.” (ANI)

A welcome ceremony will be organised by the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI), under the aegis of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Government of India in Dibrugarh on the same day. The event will be graced by Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) Sarbananda Sonowal along with other Union Ministers, State Ministers, diplomats and officials of IWAI and MoPSW.

‘MV Ganga Vilas’ a cruise vessel made in India, began its journey from Varanasi on January 13 after being flagged off by Prime Minister Modi. The cruise will cover a distance of 3,200 km in over 50 days before reaching Dibrugarh on February 28 via Patna Sahib, Bodh Gaya, Vikramshila, Dhaka, the Sundarbans and the Kaziranga National Park. Built with a unique design and a futuristic vision, the cruise has three decks and 18 suites on board with a capacity of 36 tourists. It is already booked for the to and fro journeys for the next two years.

Union Minister Sonowal said ‘MV Ganga Vilas’ has put India and Bangladesh on the river cruise map of the world thus opening a new horizon and vertical for tourism and freight carriage in the Indian subcontinent.

“Tourists seeking spirituality can visit destinations like Kashi, Bodh Gaya, Vikramshila, and Patna Sahib and those keen on witnessing the natural diversity will cover destinations like Sundarbans and Kaziranga. This route heralds a new chapter for freight carriage through inland waterways both for India and Bangladesh. Now through this journey, tourists have an opportunity to go onboard an immersive experiential voyage and explore the art, culture, history, and spirituality of India and Bangladesh along the entire route,” he added.

North East has a huge potential for freight carriage through National Waterways (NW). These National Waterways provide hinterland connectivity to the states of Assam, Nagaland, Tripura, Manipur, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh also and connect these States with mainland India and seaports of Kolkata and Haldia through the Indo-Bangladesh Protocol route.

Several projects for developing inland water transport infrastructure namely fairway, terminals and navigation aids have been completed by IWAI in the North East region and some of them are under progress. As per an IWAI internal study conducted in 2017, 49 MMTPA of cargo moves in and out of the North East Region and 30 MMTPA of cargo moves within the North East region. (ANI)
