Will Leave Punjab If No Arrests Made: Shehnaaz Gill’s Father

Singer-actor Shehnaaz Gill’s father Santokh Singh Sokhi Gill, who recently received a death threat, on Saturday said he will leave Punjab if no arrests are made.

Singh said that he has filed the police complaint after the threat call. He further alleged that the caller identifying himself as ‘Happy’ has threatened to kill him before Diwali.

“I reached the SSP of Amritsar Rural Police on Saturday to file a complaint,” he said.

“Today, we submitted a complaint to SSP Amritsar Rural. Yesterday I got a threat call from a person named Happy who threatened to kill me before Diwali. I think they want to target me because I am a Hindu leader,” said Santokh Singh.

Urging the police authorities to investigate into the matter, he said, ” If no arrests are made, I will soon be forced to leave Punjab and settle elsewhere.”

In this regard, Superintendent of police (SP) Jaswant Kaur assured, “The incident will be investigated and action will be taken.”

This is not the first time Santokh Singh has been threatened. Reportedly, in December 2021, after joining the Bhartiya Janta Party, he was attacked by two men. As per reports, he was sitting inside his car when two unidentified assailants arrived and shot at him.

His daughter Shehnaaz gained fame after her stint on Bigg Boss 13

Shehnaaz and Sidharth Shukla, popularly called ‘SidNaaz’ by fans, got close to each other when they were in the ‘Bigg Boss 13’ house, though they never officially acknowledged being a couple. Sidharth later won the reality show in 2020. (ANI)

ED Raids Nearly 3 Dozen Locations In Delhi, Punjab

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday carried out searches at nearly three dozen locations in Delhi and Punjab in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22 case.

The raids were conducted days after the Central agency arrested Sameer Mahendru, Managing Director of Delhi’s Jor Bagh-based liquor distributor Indospirit Group, in the case.
Among the accused in the case is Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, the then Excise Commissioner Arva Gopi Krishna, Deputy Commissioner Anand Tiwari and Assistant Commissioner Pankaj Bhatnagar.

Other accused are Manoj Rai, a former employee of Pernod Ricard; Amandeep Dhal, director of Brindco Sales; director of Buddy Retail Amit Arora, and Dinesh Arora; authorised signatories of Mahadev Liquors Sunny Marwah, Arun Ramchandra Pillai and Arjun Pandey.

The ED and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had alleged that irregularities were committed while modifying the Excise Policy, undue favours were extended to licence holders, the licence fee was waived or reduced and the L-1 licence was extended without the competent authority’s approval. The beneficiaries diverted “illegal” gains to the accused officials and made false entries in their books of account to evade detection.

As alleged, the Excise Department had decided to refund the Earnest Money Deposit of about Rs 30 crore to a successful tenderer against the set rules. Even though there was no enabling provision, a waiver on tendered licence fees was allowed from December 28, 2021, to January 27, 2022, due to COVID-19.

This allegedly caused a loss of Rs 144.36 crore to the exchequer, said the FIR, which has been instituted on a reference from the Union Home Ministry following a recommendation from Delhi Lieutenant-Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena. (ANI)

Akalis Cong in Punjab

Akalis, Cong Finished In Punjab, People Fed Up With AAP: Capt

Exuding confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will come to power in Punjab, former Chief Minister and BJP leader Captain Amarinder Singh say that Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Congress are finished in Punjab and the people of the state are fed up with Bhagwant Mann-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in six months.

Last month, Singh had joined the BJP and merged his party Punjab Lok Congress (PLC) with BJP.
Speaking to ANI, “I am very happy ever since I joined BJP and I feel that now BJP will rule all over India and in coming times in Punjab also because there is neither a leader in Congress nor leadership.”

Talking about the situation of the Congress party, the former Punjab CM said that it is very difficult for the grand old party to come out of the present condition in which they are in, because the Gandhi family wants “yes man”, even in the party presidential elections.

Amarinder Singh had floated the PLC last year after quitting Congress following his unceremonious exit as chief minister.

In September last year, Amarinder Singh had resigned from Congress ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections.

He stitched an alliance with the BJP that already had made SAD (Sanyukt) as its ally.

Former Chief Minister further said that BJP will form govt both in Punjab and the Center.

“Akali Dal and Congress are finished in Punjab and people are fed up with Aam Aadmi Party, so now BJP will rule in Punjab and together we will bring BJP power in Punjab and at the Centre,” said Singh.

It is pertinent to mention that Amarinder Singh failed to win polls from his home turf of Patiala Urban in Assembly polls. His party also failed to win even a single seat in the state assembly polls.

In six months of the government of Bhagwant Mann, he said that the APP government in Punjab has failed in all ways.

“I have been in politics for more than 50 years but I have not yet seen a government like this which has brought its confidence motion within six months. This shows that nothing good is going on within the government and this government has failed in all ways,” he added.

Further slamming the AAP government over the law and order situation, the former CM said, “Law and order are the responsibility of the state government. The government needs to crack down on the issue of Khalistan. Khalistan slogans weren’t raised during my tenure as I took strict steps. According to the Constitution, the state government has the right to keep its province safe. They are not doing anything.”

Attacking Pakistan for making attempts to create unrest in Pakistan, Singh targeted Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for faltering in dispensing his duties.

“Pakistan is engaged in sending drones and efforts are being made to spread unrest in Punjab. The Chief Minister is not able to give as much time as he should. The duty of running the government here was of Bhagwant Mann but he is not doing it,” Singh said.

“This is the duty of the Punjab government, it is the duty of Bhagwant Mann as law and order is state subject,” Singh added.

On the question of making Governor by the government, Singh said he would follow what BJP will ask him to do but he will not contest elections.

“I have been in the army since the beginning, so if the BJP government of India tells me I am ready to fight, but now I will not contest elections,” he said.

He also expressed happiness over the closure of the Twitter handle of Pakistan by the Central Government and said that it should have been done earlier.

The Twitter account of the Pakistani government has been taken down in India. “Account Withheld. @GovtofPakistan’s account has been withheld in India in response to a legal demand,” a message in the page read.

“I want to congratulate the Government of India for this because Pakistan is always engaged in destabilizing India and Punjab,” he said.

Responding to his wife Preneet Kaur’s question, he said, “It is her wish that from which party she contests elections, but if she asks for my opinion, then I will advise her to fight from BJP.” (ANI)

Pakistan Dengu

Dengue Outbreak In Pakistan, Cases Exceed 30,000 This Year

Pakistan’s capital city, Islamabad, reported 104 more dengue cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally to 30,267 in the country this year, local media reported, citing the Islamabad District Health Officer (DHO), on Saturday.

The federal capital has reported 2,435 cases in the current season, with an overall of 1,379 dengue cases have been reported in rural and 952 emerged from urban areas of Islamabad, ARY News reported.
The rising cases of dengue in Pakistan have claimed 68 lives so far this year, while the total cases have reached 30,267.

In the federal capital, the total cases have gone up to 2,435 while six people lost their lives to the viral disease in the current year. As per the sources, Sindh reported the most cases and deaths, ARY News reported.

Over 9,496 dengue cases, and 37 people were reported dead in Sindh. Punjab reported 6,564 cases, and 18 people lost lives to the virus. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reported 8,070 cases and seven deaths, while Balochistan reported at least 3,402 dengue cases.

As districts in Pakistan continue to be affected by massive monsoon rainfall and unprecedented levels of flooding, the World Health Organization (WHO) has warned of significant public health threats facing affected populations, including the risk of further water spread and vector-borne diseases such as malaria and dengue fever, ARY News reported.

The country is continuing to report more and more dengue virus cases daily, with panic and fear spreading among the public as a shortage of fever medicines has also surfaced.

Adding to the catastrophic situation, the fumigation drive was halted because the Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) ran out of fuel, sources said.

Sources told ARY News that the fumigation drive was halted due to the non-availability of petrol and diesel for the past four days.

Record monsoon and heavy floods in Pakistan have given rise to hunger and various illnesses which have affected 33 million people and the experts believe that the situation would aggravate in the coming days as the flood affectees are forced to live under the sky depriving the required resources.

Around 888 health facilities have been damaged in the country, of which 180 are completely damaged, leaving millions of people lacking access to health care and medical treatment, as reported in many affected districts.

Pakistan receives heavy — often destructive — rains during its annual monsoon season, which is crucial for agriculture and water supplies. But the heavy downpour this year has created havoc in the country, while rapidly melting glaciers in the north have for months heaped pressure on waterways.

Huge areas of the country are still underwater and hundreds of thousands of people have been forced from their homes.

According to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), Pakistan is facing one of the worst flooding events in its history. The human and socio-economic toll is expected to increase as flood levels continue to rise, with immense pressure on the country’s dams. (ANI)

Canada India

Canada: Don’t Travel To Areas In India Bordering Pak

In what appears to be a bizarre travel advisory, Canada has advised its citizens to avoid all travel to areas in the states of Gujarat, Punjab, and Rajasthan that share a border with Pakistan due to the “presence of landmines” and an “unpredictable security situation.”

“Avoid all travel to areas within 10 km of the border with Pakistan in the following states due to the unpredictable security situation and presence of landmines and unexploded ordnance: Gujarat, Punjab, and Rajasthan,” the advisory states.
The travel advisory put out by the Canadian government on its website, which was last updated on September 27, also asks its citizens to exercise a high degree of caution in India due to the “threat of terrorist attacks throughout the country.”

This advisory excludes traveling to or within the Union Territory of Ladakh.

It also urges people to avoid non-essential travel to Assam and Manipur “due to the risk of terrorism and insurgency.”

Incidentally, India had on September 23 issued an advisory for Indian nationals and students in Canada to remain vigilant amid increasing incidents of crimes and anti-India activities in the country.

In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said Indian missions in Canada have taken up these incidents with the Canadian authorities and requested them to probe these crimes.

“There has been a sharp increase in incidents of hate crimes, sectarian violence, and anti-Indian activities in Canada. The Ministry of External Affairs and our High Commissions/Consulates General in Canada have taken up these incidents with the Canadian authorities and requested them to investigate the said crimes and take appropriate action,” the MEA said in a statement.

The statement also stressed that “the perpetrators of these crimes have not been brought to justice so far in Canada.”

“In view of the increasing incidences of crimes as described above, Indian nationals and students from India in Canada and those proceeding to Canada for travel/education are advised to exercise due caution and remain vigilant,” the statement added.

The advisory also said Indian nationals and students from India in Canada may also register with the High Commission of India in Ottawa or the Consulates General of India in Toronto and Vancouver through their respective websites, or the MADAD portal madad.gov.in.

“Registration would enable the High Commission and the Consulates General to better connect with Indian citizens in Canada in the event of any requirement or emergency,” the advisory said.

This advisory after India termed the so-called Khalistan referendum conducted by separatist groups as a “farcical exercise”. (ANI)

Stubble Burning Bhagwant

Jyotiraditya: Will Probe Bhagwant Mann Deplaning Incident

After a row over Punjab chief minister Bhagwant allegedly being deplaned on a Delhi-bound flight from Germany allegedly because he was inebriated, Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Tuesday said he will investigate the matter and has sought a detailed report from Lufthansa Airlines.

On Monday, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal levelled serious allegations against Mann and asked him to clarify media reports of him being deplaned from a flight from Frankurt to Delhi on Sunday as he was “too drunk to walk” leading to a 4-hour delay in the flight.
Scindia on Tuesday said that he will investigate the matter based on the requests made to him.

“This was an incident on international soil, will have to make sure to verify the details and facts. It’s up to Lufthansa airlines to provide that data,” Scindia said.

India’s aviation ministry received details about Mann’s last-minute skipping of his Lufthansa Airways flight and on the basis of the details, the ministry decided to seek a report in detail from Lufthansa.

“Based on a request which has been sent to me… I will certainly look into the matter,” Scindia told mediapersons.

The Punjab chief minister was on a visit to Germany from September 11-18 to attract investments and strategic alliances in various sectors. Notably, Mann returned from his eight-day trip from Germany on Monday.

Lufthansa Airlines had, meanwhile, on Monday issued clarification regarding the 4-hour delay of its Delhi-Frankfurt flight.

According to Lufthansa News, Frankfurt to Delhi flight departed later than its scheduled time due to a delayed inbound flight and an aircraft change. “Our flight from Frankfurt to Delhi departed later than originally planned due to a delayed inbound flight and an aircraft change,” Lufthansa News tweeted replying to a user asking about the delay in the flight.

In another tweet by a user asking whether CM Bhagwant Mann was “drunk”, Lufthansa News tweeted that it can’t provide information regarding individual passengers due to data protection reasons. “For data protection reasons we do not provide any information regarding individual passengers,” Lufthansa News said in another tweet.

SAD’s Badal said: “Disturbing media reports quoting co-passengers say Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was deplaned from a Lufthansa flight as he was too drunk to walk. And it led to a 4-hour flight delay. He missed AAP’s national convention. These reports have embarrassed and shamed Punjabis all over the globe.”

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) also dismissed the Badal’s charge that Mann was deplaned from the flight because he was inebriated and said that the Opposition doesn’t have issues to talk about and the Punjab Chief Minister had health problems.

Responding to the allegations, AAP leaders Kuldeep Dhaliwal and Meet Hayer held a joint press conference and said, “Anyone can have health issues. The Opposition does not have any issues to talk about. That is why they are highlighting this issue which is meaningless and fake.

“Earlier, Badal slammed the Punjab government over their silence on the issue and sought clarifications on the incident. He also asked AAP leaders, including party chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to come clean on the issue. “Shockingly, the Punjab government is mum over these reports involving their CM Bhagwant Mann. Arvind Kejriwal needs to come clean on this issue. The government of India must step into this, as it involves Punjabi and national pride. If he was deplaned, the government of India must raise the issue with its German counterpart,” he added.

Previously on August 31, a delegation, including SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal, submitted a memorandum to Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit and demanded a CBI inquiry into the state excise policy alleging a scam in the policy. “There has been a scam in Punjab Excise Policy just like it happened in Delhi. Just like the Delhi LG has ordered an inquiry into the Excise Policy case, we demand a CBI inquiry along the same lines in Punjab,” said Badal. (ANI)
