Char Dham Yatra: First Batch Of Pilgrims Leave From Haridwar

The first batch of pilgrims left Haridwar for the Char Dham Yatra on Saturday. The Yatra began today from Yamunotri Dham on the auspicious occasion of Akshay Tritiya.

A huge crowd of devotees gathered at Gangotri Dham as the portals of Gangotri Temple are opening today.

Meanwhile, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami participated in the departure of Maa Yamuna’s Doli from the Kharsali village.

A helicopter showered flower petals on Uttarakhand CM Dhami and locals as they participate in the departure of Goddess Yamuna’s Doli from village Kharsali.

CM Dhami said that the Chardham Yatra began from Yamunotri Dham today and after this, the portals of Gangotri Dham will open today.

“Chardham Yatra began from Yamunotri Dham today. After this, the portals of Gangotri Dham will open today, Kedarnath Dham on April 25, and Badrinath Dham on April 27. The first puja today was held on behalf of PM Modi…Ever since he became the PM, Sanatan culture, religious places, and pilgrimages have enhanced. All of this was done under his leadership. So, the first puja was done on his behalf, because he is a devotee of all the four dams and Lord Shiva,” said Dhami.

Each year, the palanquin carrying the idol of goddess Yamuna is taken out amid the chanting of Vedic hymns.

Situated at the heights of the great Himalayas, the four pilgrim destinations Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath are collectively known as Chardham. These religious centers draw large numbers of pilgrims each year and are the most famous hubs of religious travel across the Northern part of India.

Meanwhile, the Panchmukhi Utsav Doli of Baba Kedarnath left for the Himalayas on Friday after its winter stay in Ukhimath. Thousands of devotees have reached Omkareshwar temple Ukhimath on this occasion.

Baba’s Doli reached Gupta Kashi Vishwanath temple on Friday for the first-night stay. The additional stay of this Bardoli is happening in Guptkashi. The Doli will reach Kedarnath on April 24.

On Thursday Pushkar Singh Dhami also participated in the mock exercise program organized by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) for the Chardham Yatra-2023, saying that the state government has made all preparations in this regard.

“On the occasion, Chief Minister Dhami also did a virtual observation of the mock exercise being done for disaster management on the Chardham Yatra routes,” an official statement read. (ANI)

Four Wards Of Joshimath Declared Completely Unsafe: Disaster Management Secretary

Amid the evolving crisis around the landslide and subsidence at Joshimath in the upper reaches of Uttarakhand, Disaster Management Secretary Ranjit Kumar Sinha on Tuesday said four municipal areas or wards in the holy town have been declared as ‘completely unsafe’.

Addressing a press conference in Dehradun on Tuesday, Sinha said, “Four wards in Joshimath have been declared as completely unsafe. The rest of the wards have been found to be partially affected (by subsidence).”
“Many organizations are involved in the ongoing investigation into the reasons and extent of subsidence in and around Joshimath. We will come up with a final report soon. We have made adequate preparations in anticipation of rainfall,” he added.

However, in a piece of ‘good news’, Sinha informed us that the water discharge level at JP Colony has gone down.

“The water discharge level (which is said to be behind the prevailing situation in Joshimath) at JP Colony has gone down. This is good news,” the Disaster management secretary said.

He added that the affected families have been shifted to shelter homes and the model huts will be ready within a week.

Hundreds of residents were shifted to relief centers in safe places after cracks appeared at several homes in Joshimath, suggesting subsidence.

The Uttarakhand government has already announced relief packages worth crores for the affected families of Joshimath. (ANI)

Dhami Instructs Better Air Facilities To Tourists

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday instructed the officials to ensure better air facilities for tourists visiting the state.

Along with Jolly Grant Airport, the Chief Minister also asked to pay attention to arrangements for night landing at Pantnagar airport and the expansion and development of infrastructure facilities.
According to an official statement, the Chief Minister has asked to pay attention to ensuring effective arrangements for booking tickets and stopping the black marketing of tickets, in order to provide better air facilities to passengers and tourists during the Chardham Yatra.

While presiding over the eighth meeting of the Board of Directors of the Civil Aviation Development Authority at the Secretariat on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said that the people have to be motivated to come to Uttarakhand on the basis of better air facilities.

“Such an atmosphere has to be created so that coming to Uttarakhand becomes a habit of the people. Along with our identity as a friendly state, there is also a need for concerted efforts for the maximum promotion of tourism and religious tourism in the state,” he said.

Dhami also asked Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority to focus on efforts to increase the sources of income.

“Apart from making arrangements for night landing at Pantnagar, efforts should be made to operate regular air services from here. Arrangements should also be made that after getting off the plane at Pantnagar and Jollygrant, the tourists are provided with the facility of a helicopter to visit various picturesque tourist places of the state,” the Chief Minister said.

He also asked Naini Saini, Chinyalisaud, and Gauchar airstrips to be made comfortable so that the facility of small aircraft could be available here.

He also asked to pay attention to making the heliports being developed under the UDAN scheme well-equipped with the necessary resources.

The Chief Minister said that during the Chardham Yatra, effective arrangements should be made for effective control over the booking of helicopter tickets and black marketing of tickets. In this regard, the Chief Minister also talked about making arrangements for the booking of heli tickets through IRCTC. (ANI)

Dhami Gifts Modi A Traditional Brahma Kamal Carved Cap

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday left for the national capital from Jolly Grant airport in Uttarakhand after his two-day long visit to the state.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami gifted PM Modi famous sweets from Almora and a cap with a Brahma kamal flower embossed on it.

During his visit to the state, PM Modi pitched for the Vocal for Local initiative and appealed to people, especially tourists to spend their money on locally-made products.

In his address at a public event in Badrinath’s Mana, the last village bordering China, PM Modi said that every village located in the border areas will be now considered as the first village of India.

PM Modi also attended the ‘Saras Mela’ in Mana village and interacted with the local artisans and visited the stalls in the Mela.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Modi also laid the foundation stone for road widening projects worth around Rs 1,000 crore.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the two road widening projects – from Mana to Mana Pass (NH07) and from Joshimath to Malari (NH107B) – shall be another step towards providing last-mile all-weather road connectivity to our border areas. Apart from boosting connectivity, these projects will also prove beneficial from a strategic point of view as well.

He later laid the foundation stone of the Kedarnath ropeway project and after that visited the Adi Guru Shankaracharya Samadhi Sthal and also reviewed the progress of development works along Mandakini Asthapath and Saraswati Asthapath.

PM Modi then interacted with the construction workers engaged in the Kedarnath Dham development project.

In Kedarnath, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for a ropeway project, which will be around 9.7 km long and will connect Gaurikund to Kedarnath, thus reducing the travel time between the two places from 6-7 hours at present to only about 30 minutes.

This ropeway is estimated to cost Rs 2,430 crore.

The Hemkund ropeway will connect Govindghat to Hemkund Sahib. It will be around 12.4 km long and will reduce the travel time from more than a day to only about 45 mins. This ropeway will also connect Ghangaria, which is the gateway to Valley of Flowers National Park, said the PMO statement.

The ropeways, which will be developed at a cumulative cost of around Rs 2,430 crore, are an environmentally friendly mode of transport that will provide a safe, secure, and stable mode of transport. This major infrastructure development will give a boost to religious tourism, which will give a fillip to the economic development in the region and lead to the creation of multiple employment opportunities as well.

PM Modi will now visit Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh on the eve of Diwali to celebrate the Deepotsav festival here. (ANI)

At Village Bordering China, Modi Pitches For Vocal For Local

As part of the Vocal for Local initiative, Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Uttarakhand on Friday appealed to people, particularly tourists, to spend money on purchasing locally-made products.

“I appeal to all tourists in the country to spend at least 5 percent of their travel budget on buying local products,” Prime Minister Modi said at a public event held at Badrinath’s Mana, the last village bordering China.
Earlier too, he had appealed to fellow Indians on various occasions to purchase indigenous products to sustain the local economy.

Talking about villages situated near international borders and far-flung areas, the prime minister said every village located in the border areas will be now considered as the first village of India.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone for road widening projects worth around Rs 1,000 crore.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at Badrinath Dham in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand on Friday.

Before arriving in Chamoli, PM Modi visited Kedarnath Dham in Rudraprayag and offered prayers in one of the holy shrines donning a traditional pahadi outfit, Chola Dora, that was gifted to him by Himachali women during his tour to the state.

Kedarnath: Modi Dons Chola Dora To Offer Prayers

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday morning offered prayers at Uttarkhand’s Kedarnath shrine, donning a ‘Chola Dora’ outfit gifted to him by women of Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba.

The traditional pahadi outfit in white colour and sporting fine hand embroidery was gifted to the prime minister during his recent visit to Himachal. PM Modi, on receiving the gift had promised the women that he would wear it the first instance during a visit to a cold region.

By wearing the outfit at today’s visit he fulfilled that promise.

Prime Minister Modi performed puja at Kedarnath Temple today. He was accompanied by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. PM also visited the Adi Guru Shankaracharya Samadhi Sthal at Kedarnath.

Prime Minister is on a visit to the Himalayan state to lay the foundation stone of projects worth over Rs 3,400 crore.

Mountaineering, Trekking Banned Amid Bad weather: Uttarkashi

In the view of the safety of the trekking and mountaineering teams in Uttarkashi, district magistrate Abhishek Ruhela on Thursday instructed to keep the activities here closed for the next three days.

Ruhela has banned these activities in Uttarkashi from October 6 (today) to October 8 (Saturday)
The DM’s decision came after the meterorological department issued an alert for the rain and snow fall here.

The India Meteorological Deaprtment on Monday predicted “Intense rainfall spell likely to commence over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh from 05th October for subsequent 2-3 days and heavy rainfall spell over most parts of east and northeast India during next 3-4 days.”

Recently on Tuesday, a huge avalanche hit nearly 41 mountaineers and trainees of Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM) at Draupadi’s Danda-II mountain peak in Uttarkashi.

Earlier in the day, a team of team of experts from Gulmarg in Jammu and Kashmir joined the rescue operation with the team of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM).

The officials of the Indian Air Force had previously informed that they had deployed two helicopters from Sarsawa and Bareilly for the rescue operation with which several mountaineers were rescued from Base Camp located at about 12,000 ft to Matli helipad.

A day after four mountaineers lost their lives in the avalanche in Uttarkashi with several still missing, the survivors narrated their horrific experiences on Wednesday.

Deep Thakur, a trainee from Gujarat, who survived the accident while undergoing treatment at the district hospital, said that the avalanche came all of a sudden while he was climbing to Draupadi’s Danda Peak for a summit at around 9.45 am, due to which he along with his companions fell into the crevasses about 60 feet deep, where he struggled between death and life for about 3 hours.

On Wednesday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also conducted an aerial inspection of the rescue and relief operation being carried out to find the mountaineering trainees who were hit by the avalanche and announced financial assistance to the kin of the deceased in the Uttarkashi and Pauri Garhwal tragedies which occurred on Tuesday.

“An amount of Rs 2 lakh for deaths, Rs one lakh for serious injuries, and Rs 50,000 for normal injuries will be given to all those affected by these two tragedies,” an official informed.

Besides the tragic incident of the avalanche in Uttarkashi, CM Dhami announced ex-gratia for the accident, which claimed 32 lives and injured more than 20 people after a bus carrying a wedding procession fell into a gorge in the Birokhal area of Dhumakot in the Pauri-Garhwal district on Tuesday night. 28 Mountaineering Trainees Trapped In Avalanche At Danda-2 Peak

As many as 28 people are feared trapped in an avalanche that hit Draupadi’s Danda-2 mountain peak in Uttarakhand, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said on Tuesday.

Rescue operations are underway to rescue the trapped, all trainees of the Nehru Mountaineering Institute of Uttarkashi.
According to preliminary reports avalanche hit the team around 9 AM today.

“Information about 28 trainees of Nehru Mountaineering Institute being trapped following an avalanche in Draupadi’s Danda-2 mountain peak has been received. Rapid, relief and rescue operations underway by the district administration, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Army and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel,” CM Dhami said.

“Rapid relief and rescue operations are being carried out by the district administration, NDRF, SDRF, Army and ITBP personnel along with the team of NIM to rescue the trainees trapped in the avalanche in Draupadi’s Danda-2 mountain peak at the earliest,” tweeted the chief minister Dhami.

A SDRF team left from Sahastradhara helipad in Dehradun has rushed to rescue the trainees trapped in an avalanche for rescue work.

CM Dhami said that he has spoken to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and requested for help from the army to speed up the rescue operation.

“He has assured us to give every possible help from the Centre. A rescue operation is being conducted to bring out everyone,” Dhami said.

Meanwhile, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also took to Twitter and expressed his anguish to the loss of lives and consoled the bereaved families who lost their family members.

“Deeply anguished by the loss of precious lives due to landslide which has struck the mountaineering expedition carried out by the Nehru Mountaineering Institute in Uttarkashi. My condolences to the bereaved families who have lost their loved ones,” Rajnath Singh said in a tweet.

“Spoke to CM Uttarakhand, Shri @PushkarDhamiand took stock of the situation. Rescue operations are underway to help the mountaineers who are still trapped. I have instructed the IAF to mount the rescue and relief ops. “Praying for everyone’s safety and well-being,” Singh said. (ANI)

Ankita Murder: Family Seeks Noose For Culprits, CM Assures Action

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday spoke to the father of Ankita Bhandari, who was murdered in Rishikesh, and assured him of justice in the case.

“I had spoken to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami over the phone. He has given full assurance that justice will be served in my daughter’s case,” said Ankita’s father.

He further stressed on capital punishment for the culprits and said, “We demanded that the culprits be given capital punishment. CM Dhami has also talked about giving full cooperation from the police and administration in the whole matter,” Virendra Bhandari added.

The family members also agreed with the constitution of SIT in the case.

The Uttarakhand Chief Minister slammed the opposition tactics over the matter and stressed a fast-track approach in the case.

“I have asked that probe be done in fast track court for swift justice to Ankita Bhandari. The accused have been arrested, strictest action taken. STF was also formed. The opposition raising matter only for political reasons, action taken is just as per legal process,” said CM Dhami.

Earlier, the Uttarakhand Police probing the horrific Ankita Bhandari murder case said Tuesday that the SIT had recovered two vehicles allegedly used in the crime from a resort where Ankita worked in Rishikesh.

DIG P Renuka Devi said the SIT will now record the statements of the women employees of the Vantara Resort, owned by the main accused Pulkit Arya, son of expelled BJP leader Vinod Arya.

“We are analysing all the evidence. A post-mortem report has been received. We will record the statements of women who worked at the resort. Two motorcycles used in the crime have been found. We will apply for police custody of the accused for interrogation, including Ishita, in the resort of the main accused Pulkit Arya,” the DIG told ANI.

The body of Ankita Bhandari, 19, was recovered from the Chilla Canal in Rishikesh on September 24. “It has been found from the CCTV footage that these two vehicles were used by the accused for going to Chilla barrage and coming back,” the DIG said.

The murder case sparked massive outrage and protests were reported from various parts of the state. Angry locals even set on fire the resort where Ankita worked. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami then ordered officials to ensure law and order in the state. (ANI)
