Smooth, Safe Travel Is Every Citizen’s Right: Yogi

Asserting that every citizen has the right to a smooth and safe journey, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Saturday said that it is the responsibility of the government to ensure a safe journey for the travellers.

“It becomes the responsibility of the government to fulfil this right with the utmost sincerity and honesty, considering the trust with which a passenger travels,” he said.
Flagging off 93 new Rajdhani bus services and seven regular BS-6 buses, the Chief Minister said, “The statistics of deaths resulting from road accidents are extremely alarming. If we were to present the figures of road accidents for Uttar Pradesh within a year, a horrific scenario would unfold.”

“In one year, more lives are lost due to road accidents than COVID-19 has claimed in three years. Road accidents occur and innocent lives are lost due to overspeeding, poor road engineering, or rules violations”, added CM Yogi.

He stressed that increasing awareness and obeying the rules of the road can save many lives.

“Every life is precious to us, and it is also an invaluable asset for a family, a society, and a country”, Yogi said.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has called for a campaign to increase awareness and prevent traffic accidents and the deaths they cause. He stated that launching a comprehensive awareness campaign to prevent deaths from such accidents would be a national program. The central government and the Supreme Court have also expressed concerns about this issue repeatedly.

He further added, “On this occasion, arrangements should be made to enhance the existing programs of the Transport Corporation in a more effective manner. It should be our goal to provide this type of service to people who want to use the Transport Corporation’s buses for public transportation within Uttar Pradesh.

He mentioned that, if required, we must associate private operators with regulations to provide transportation and bus services to every village. If we can provide this facility to every village, it will be convenient for the people, and they will utilize public transport services.

Discussing the increasing demand for electric buses, CM stated that wherever electric bus services have been initiated, there is a new demand among the people.

“We have currently started electric bus service in 10 cities of Uttar Pradesh. Wherever we go, people are requesting us to start electric bus services in their areas as well. On this occasion, I would like to say that the time has come to ensure that bus stations are well-maintained, safe, and our bus services are in line with the demands of the people”, he said.

The Chief Minister further asserted that it is not necessary for us to rely solely on government funding to expand the fleet of the Transport Corporation. Our efforts should focus on increasing the existing resources of the Transport Corporation and involving private operators so that every village, every city is connected with excellent bus services. This will not only help in reducing the number of deaths caused by road accidents in Uttar Pradesh but also bring the fatality rate to a minimum level.

Earlier, CM Yogi congratulated the Uttar Pradesh Transport Corporation on completing 50 years of journey. At the beginning of his address, he mentioned that just a few months before independence, on May 15, 1947, a state-owned transportation service was initiated in Uttar Pradesh with the aim of providing smooth and safe travel to people.

This state-owned transportation service eventually progressed into the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation on June 1, 1972, becoming the largest unit of public transport in the state with the largest population in the country, said Yogi Adityanath.

On the occasion, the Minister of Transport, Dayashankar Singh, the Chief Secretary, Durga Shankar Mishra, the Chairman of the Transport Corporation, Prashant Trivedi, the Principal Secretary of Transport, Venkateshwar Lu, MD Masoom Sarwar, and other officials from the Transport Department were also present. Mukhtar Ansari

Ansari Sentenced To 10 Years Imprisonment

An MP MLA court in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur on Saturday convicted jailed mafia Mukhtar Ansari in a kidnapping and murder case pertaining to the killing of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai and sentenced him to 10 years imprisonment.

A fine of Rs 5 lakh was also imposed on the jailed mafia.
He was produced virtually before the court today.

Earlier today, wife of late BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai who was murdered in Ghazipur in 2005 allegedly by gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari and his brother Afzal Ansari on Saturday said that the rule of mafia has ended in Uttar Pradesh and that she has faith in the judiciary.

“I believe in the judiciary. Rule of Goondas, Mafias have ended (in the state),” Alka Rai said, wife of late BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai who was murdered in Ghazipur in 2005.

Ghazipur MP-MLA court will today pronounce the verdict in the case, in which gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari and his brother Afzal Ansari are accused.

Security was heightened ahead of the verdict by an MP-MLA court in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur in a kidnapping and murder case against gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari, his elder brother and BSP MP Afzal Ansari on Saturday.

Earlier in January this year, the police registered a murder case against Mukhtar Ansari in connection to the 2001 ‘Usri Chatti’ gang war incident.

A case under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered against Ansari at PS Mohammadabad in Ghazipur.

Earlier on January 18, Allahabad High Court dismissed the March 15 order of the Ghazipur MP/MLA Court, which allowed Ansari to be kept in a superior-class jail in Banda.

While giving the order, the court had said the order of the special court is without jurisdiction, and gangster, dreaded criminal Bahubali Ansari is not legally entitled to get a superior class in jail.

Earlier on December 15 last year, Ansari and his aide Bhim Singh were sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by the Gangster Court in Ghazipur in five cases related to murder and attempt to murder.

The cases include the murder of constable Raghuvansh Singh and a murderous assault on an additional SP of Ghazipur among others.

On September 21, the Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court convicted Mukhtar Ansari and sentenced him for threatening jailer SK Awasthi and pointing a pistol at him. The case dates to 2003 when Lucknow district prison jailer SK Awasthi lodged an FIR saying that he was threatened to order a search of the people who came to meet Ansari in prison.

On September 23, the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court sentenced him to five years in a case registered in 1999 under the Gangster Act. The court had also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on Mukhtar in this 23-year-old case. (ANI)

Radha Mohan Singh AAP

AAP Contesting UP Municipal Polls For Entertainment: Radha Mohan Singh

Former union minister and BJP leader Radha Mohan Singh took a jibe at Aam Aadmi Party’s plan to contest upcoming municipal elections in Uttar Pradesh said AAP is contesting elections for entertainment purposes only.

“Arvind Kejriwal’s party earlier contested assembly elections and now contesting municipal elections for entertainment only. The public is smart and won’t waste their vote,” said the minister.
Radha Mohan Singh has reached Moradabad in regard to civic body polls and held a meeting with the workers. Praising the BJP candidate contesting for polls, Singh said, “Vinod and the whole of his family are involved in social works and people are showing full support, I hope BJP will be winning the mayor’s seat as well.”

Earlier, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath came down heavily on the previous governments for the “mafia raj” in the state.

Addressing public meetings in three districts on the day, CM Adityanath talked up the benefits of the “double-engine government” in the state before the people.

Amid the continuing backlash from the Opposition over the prevailing law and order situation in the wake of the killing of jailed politician-turned-gangster Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf in Prayagraj, the CM said there was not a single instance of riot or curfew in the state on his watch and all was well with UP.

Tearing into the erstwhile “mafia raj” in the state, the CM said there is no one left now to shed tears for hardened criminals. “The mafia raj in Uttar Pradesh is now consigned to history,” CM Adityanath said, urging the public to vote for a “triple-engine government” to give more thrust to the state’s development.

He added that the same would happen only if the people resolve to help the BJP take control of the state’s municipal bodies. The CM kicked off the wave of rallies from Maharaj Singh Degree College ground on Janta Road in Saharanpur.

“Today, there is no curfew and no riots in UP. Everything is fine,” the CM said, adding that extortions and abductions for ransom no longer take place in the state and UP had ceased to be a “family’s personal fief”. “Mafias and criminals have become a thing of the past in UP,” the CM added.

“The UP of today stands as a symbol of security, prosperity and employment,” Adityanath said, adding, “Our state is no longer known for curfews but for the Kanwar Yatra. Our identity is not violence but to set aside our differences and celebrate all festivals together. This is not a land of the mafia but of festivals. Now it is up to us to decide whether there should be terror in our cities or should we make them safe. Do we want to see pistols in the hands of our youth or tablets?”

He added that there was a time when mafias and gangsters would threaten people but now all such elements have vanished and there is no one to shed tears for them. “I don’t know where the extortionists have gone. Those who imposed curfews during their rule would come asking for votes from you. Do not pay attention to them,” the CM said.

The first phase of polling will be held on May 4 for municipal corporation seats including among others PM Modi’s parliamentary constituency Varanasi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s home constituency Gorakhpur. (ANI)
