India and China

‘Relations With China Will Be Normal After Faceoff Issues Resolved’

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Sunday said that relations with China will not be normal until the issue of the face-off that happened at the beginning of the COVID lockdown is resolved.

While addressing the Forum For Nationalist Thinkers, Hyderabad Chapter Talk On ‘India’s G20 Presidency’ in Hyderabad on Sunday, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that the relations with China will not improve until the issue of the face-off that happened at the beginning of the COVID lockdown is resolved.

Notably, the lockdown during the COVID pandemic began in 2020 and the Galwan face-off between India and China took place in 2020.

The EAM said that today the world is taking notice of the change with which India addresses its issues.

While addressing the issues with China at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) that happened in 2020, the EAM said that we must not forget that it happened when our lockdown had just started.

“We were completely preoccupied with the COVID challenge. Please appreciate the anonymity of what Prime Minister Modi did. He deployed forces at this great height in very difficult conditions in the middle of COVID. And then took this challenge head-on,” he added.

He further said while assuring,” I can tell you the entire world has taken notice of this. They have also noted that since then we have stood firm. We have made it very clear that until there is a resolution to this issue, our relations with China will not be normal.”

“The world takes note of that resolve and determination,” he added.

Recalling some similar incidents, Jaishankar said, “We were not so effective and determined before, we had occasions when we sent them unprepared. But now, whoever is sent is fully equipped and supported.”

He also spoke on how the infrastructure near the border areas has changed, he said that there is a challenge of infrastructure near the borders because it was neglected for a long time.

“Our roads in northern areas have doubled, and tunnelling has tripled,” he added.

“People today say that economy and infrastructure don’t matter. Let me tell you, it matters to the soldiers on the field. If we don’t provide them infrastructure, we are not doing them justice,” the EAM said.

The world is also noticing how India is dealing with the issue of terrorism. “Terrorism has troubled us for a long time. But the rest of the world compares how we reacted to 26/11, and how we reacted to Uri and Balakot. They see the difference,” Jaishankar said.

Speaking on how the world is taking note of India’s actions, EAM also addressed the “leakage problem” on a lighter note.

“I discovered many other countries also had a leakage problem. They asked us how did we fix it. We told them first we fixed the problem by having a different party in power. We then fixed it by applying technology also,” he added. (ANI)

‘UP Govt Wants Folk Singer Neha To Become A Caged Parrot’

‘UP Govt Wants Folk Singer Neha To Be A Caged Parrot’

Shekhar Dixit, a social worker based in Lucknow, says the police notice to folk singer Neha Singh Rathore reveals insecurity of UP Govt which can’s stand creative criticism

Neha Singh Rathore is a folk singer who gained popularity during the Vidhan Sabha election last year. Her song, UP me ka ba, mocked the BJP claims about Uttar Pradesh. Rattled with the viral song, the BJP responded with a folk song sung by their MP Ravi Kisen. That was a healthy contest. Recently, when a mother and daughter died in a recent bulldozer action, Neha released Part 2 of her song, highlighting the tragic incident. However, this time the UP Government responded with a police notice to the artist.

The Police action reflects sheer uneasiness and a sense of insecurity of the ruling dispensation. Police and the administration under the current regime have been given a free hand and unbridled power, as a result of which they have gone berserk. All the officers want to be in the good books of the government for plum postings and preferential treatment.

The police in this case have responded with Godspeed! As soon as the song was released on social media, a police team reached her in-laws house in Ambedkar Nagar. When they could not find her there, they reached her New Delhi house in record time.

To intimidate the singer, they cautioned her (through the notice) that if an explanation is not given in the stipulated time or the reply is unsatisfactory, action will be initiated under several sections of the IPC and CrPC. A similar `swiftness’ was missing during other and more shocking crimes like the Kanpur tragedy itself or the Prayagraj daylight shooting.

Dixit wants Neha Rathore’s song to be judged by public and not state

The real issue is that the Yogi government is on the backfoot over the Kanpur bulldozer action, since this time the deceased had no criminal background. The bulldozer which has been projected as the instant justice to criminal elements in Uttar Pradesh, clearly went berserk in its overdrive and caused tragic loss of innocent lives. Any attempt to highlight the incident is being pro-actively ‘managed’. Hence the action against Neha Singh Rathore

ALSO READ: BJP Wants To Dictate What To Eat, What To Speak

I believe this case must be placed before public court: if Neha’s song hurts someone’s sentiment or promotes disharmony, let people boycott it or initiate legal action against her. Let people decide whether the song rues the living condition or it has an ulterior motive. A direct police action merely reveals the insecurity of the state government.

In a democracy, everyone has the right to speak his/her mind. There is a difference between a sarkari poet and a folk singer. This government wants a folk singer to become caged parrot and sing only their tune.

Of late, UP Police has made it a habit to waste their efforts and energy at wrong places and unnecessary engagements. If the police and administration keep trying to be more loyal than the king, they will be only bring shame to the government which will, in the long run, could cost them their gaddi.

CBI Arrests Deputy CM Sisodia In Delhi Excise Policy Case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday arrested Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in connection with the alleged Delhi liquor excise policy case, after eight hours of questioning.

Shortly before arriving at the CBI office for questioning, the Deputy Chief Minister said false cases are being lodged against leaders of the ruling party as Prime Minister Narendra Modi was “afraid” of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

“Conspiracies are being hatched by the CBI and ED and false cases being lodged against our party leaders because PM Narendra Modi is afraid of CM Arvind Kejriwal’s rising popularity. As AAP grows further, BJP will continue to slap false cases on us. We are not afraid of the CBI, ED and their false cases,” Sisodia said, claiming that people were starting to regard the AAP as an alternative to the BJP.

He said that the PM, while not afraid of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, was scared of the AAP.

“Everyone says that only AAP will rid the country of the BJP in future. Modi-ji may not be scared of Rahul Gandhi but if there’s one party that he is scared, it is the AAP. They will put me in jail, but we are not afraid. We will fight. Kejriwal is the only future leader of this country,” Sisodia said, addressing supporters at Raj Ghat.

He further appealed to Arvind Kejriwal to “keep fighting” for the welfare of the people.

“I want to tell Kejriwal-ji, please continue with what are you doing. Keep fighting for the welfare of the people,” Sisodia said.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers were heard chanting “Modi Mar Gaya” slogans outside Fatehpur Beri Police Station in support of Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who appeared before the CBI for interrogation in connection with alleged excise policy scam today.

The Delhi Police had detained 50 workers and leaders of the AAP.

Delhi police said the AAP workers and prominent leaders, including Sanjay Singh, were detained allegedly for violating Section 144 of the CrPC.

“A total 50 persons, including 42 men and 8 women, were detained,” Delhi Police said.

Trilok Puri MLA Rohit Kumar Mehraulia, Sangam Vihar MLA Dinesh Mohnia, Kondli MLA Kuldeep Singh, Rohtash Nagar ex-MLA Sarita Singh and Delhi minister Gopal Rai were among those arrested.

Earlier, the CBI had asked Sisodia to appear for questioning on February 19. On last Sunday, Sisodia requested the central agency to defer questioning saying that he is “preparing the budget” at present and can only appear before it towards February-end.

However, Sisodia has not been named an accused in the chargesheet filed in the case. Arrested businessmen Vijay Nair and Abhishek are among the seven accused named in the chargesheet.

In August last year, the CBI searched Sisodia’s bank locker in connection with the case. The deputy CM claimed the sleuths did not find any incriminating material in his locker.

Several raids were conducted at 21 places in Delhi and the National Capital Region, including Sisodia’s residence, and the premises of four public servants last year, according to a CBI officer, who further said that the raids were conducted across 7 states.

The CBI launched a probe in the matter on the basis of a report forwarded by the Delhi chief secretary to L-G Saxena recommending a probe by the central agency. (ANI)

Raipur Plenary: Cong Ready To Work With Like-Minded Parties

Congress’ 85th plenary session ended on Sunday with the ‘Raipur declaration’ stating that the grand old party is the only party which never compromised with the BJP-RSS as well as its despicable politics and mentioned that they are ready to work with like-minded political parties.

“The Congress party is the only party that has never compromised with the BJP/RSS and its despicable politics. We will always fight to protect our political values against the BJP’s authoritarian, communal and crony capitalist onslaught,” the party said in its declaration.

With an aim to address the three main challenges facing the country, the party said that it is ready to work with like-minded political parties on the basis of a common, constructive programme

“We are prepared to work with like-minded political parties on the basis of a common, constructive programme to preserve and protect the Constitution in letter and spirit and to address the three main challenges facing the country: growing economic inequality, intensifying social polarisation and deepening political dictatorship,” it said in a declaration.

At the plenary session, the party gave credit to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and lakhs of citizens, including workers of the Indian National Congress, who walked 4,000 kms from Kanyakumari to Kashmir during the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

“The Yatra took forward an inclusive and progressive vision of India where Constitutional values reign supreme. In celebrating diversity, equality and fraternity, it presented a clear alternative to the BJP’s vision of India. In a few months, we will be celebrating the centenary of the Seva Dal, a crucial grassroots organisation of Congress workers. This will be an occasion to impart fresh energy into our mass contact programmes,” it said.

The declaration said that the party workers and leaders must work with discipline, solidarity and complete unity to ensure victory in the upcoming Assembly elections adding the results of these elections will set the tone for the all-important 2024 Lok Sabha election.

“The coming year will see important state elections in Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Rajasthan and Telangana. Party workers and leaders must work with discipline, solidarity and complete unity to ensure our victory. The results of these elections will set the tone for the all-important 2024 Lok Sabha election,” the declaration reads.

The declaration said that the Congress governments in Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan are models for the rest of the country.

“As just two examples, Rajasthan’s Mukhya Mantri Chiranjeevi Swasthya Bima Yojana and Chhattisgarh’s Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Nyay Yojana have set the bar for other states. Our new government in Himachal Pradesh is fulfilling the promises made to the people in all earnestness,” it added.

The Declaration said that in the decade from 2004-2014, Congress delivered the highest-ever GDP growth, pulled crores of Indians out of poverty, and introduced many transformational rights-based legislations, such as MGNREGA, Forest Rights Act and National Food Security Act.

“The time is now ripe for a new vision to empower the nation’s producers and reboot the economy. MSMEs that have been destroyed in the last eight and a half years must be revived and made the engine of rapid growth and employment, through cluster-based skill development programmes for the youth, and dedicated funding and technological support for labour-intensive manufacturing,” it said.

It further said that the GST must be drastically simplified and significantly improved for the benefit of small businesses and traders, and GST compensation for states must be extended for another five years.

“Agricultural policies and reforms must be reoriented to place farmers and farm workers at the centre, and not only production goals. Farmers must be safeguarded through measures such as debt relief and legally guaranteed MSP. To ensure the fruits of rapid growth benefit all sections of society, Sampoorna Samajik Suraksha must be introduced, especially a women-centric NYAY programme and a Universal Right to Health Act. To cement the foundations of social justice an immediate Caste Census is critical,” it said.

The declaration also said that India awaits a reinvigorated Congress and we owe it to the people to fulfill their expectations.

Crores of workers of the Congress party must build on the momentum of the Bharat Jodo Yatra to defeat the divisive forces of the BJP and RSS. A mass awareness campaign will be launched against the crudest example of crony capitalism which the entire country and the world is seeing. We end the Raipur plenary with a renewed resolve and a common purpose to build a stronger and united India,” it added.

The 85th plenary session of the Congress began on Friday in Nava Raipur, Chhattisgarh. (ANI)

Uddhav Responsible For The Shiv Sena Crisis: Athawale

Uddhav Responsible For The Shiv Sena Crisis: Athawale

Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale said that former state chief minister Uddhav Thackeray is responsible for the problems in the Shiv Sena.

Addressing a press meeting here on Saturday, the Union Minister said, “For the problems in Shiv Sena, Uddhav Thackeray is responsible. Because 2019’s mandate was that the government should be of BJP and Shiv Sena. But Uddhav Thackeray has left the alliance with BJP and joined hands with Congress and NCP. Therefore, problems occurred. Otherwise, if Uddhav Thackeray could be with the BJP, then there could be no dispute between Uddhav Thackeray and Eknath Shinde.”

He further said that the Eknath Shinde’s government is a very strong government and they are taking important decisions.

Speaking on the Congress’ plenary session, Athawale said, “I respect Sonia Gandhi. But Rahul Gandhi is not a very strong man. He can’t lead the party. That’s why he resigned from the Congress presidentship after the defeat. Smriti Irani defeated Rahul Gandhi in Amethi. Comparing Rahul Gandhi to Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandhi can’t defeat Narendra Modi.”

Athawale exuded confidence that the BJP-led NDA will come to power again as there is no Opposition.

“There is no opposition. On one side there is Narendra Modi and another side all leaders, CPIM, CPI, Aam Aadmi Party, Congress, Mamata’s party, Nitish Kumar’s party, and NCP. There is no problem from coming again into the power for BJP and the NDA,” he said.

He further said that people would choose the leadership of Narendra Modi as people are not ready to support opposition parties.

“Opposition is not united. If they are united, Narendra Modi will take more benefits. People will choose the leadership of Narendra Modi,” he added. (ANI)

Rahul Writes To Speaker, Seeking Permission To Respond To Allegations

I Learnt A Lot From Bharat Jodo Yatra: Rahul Gandhi

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has said he learnt a lot during his just concluded months-long ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ during which he met people from all sections of the society.

“During Bharat Jodo Yatra I learned a lot. I walked for my nation from Kanyakumari to Kashmir. Thousands connected with me and other party leaders during the yatra. I listened to all problems of farmers and realised their pain,” Rahaul, an MP from Kerala’s Wayanad constituency, said on Sunday at the party’s ongoing 85th Plenary Session in Raipur.

The yatra began on September 7, 2022, from Kanyakumari and passed through 12 states, culminating in Jammu and Kashmir — covering a total distance of about 4,000 kms over the course of four-and-a-half-months.

He also mentioned Jammu and Kashmir leg of his yatra, saying that he felt like being at home when he reached there.

“52 years passed and I still don’t have a home, but when I reached Kashmir, it felt like home. The yatra was to make people of all castes and age groups feel at home. People were not talking political with me during the yatra but it all changed when I reached Kashmir,” Gandhi said.

According to Congress, the walk was aimed at uniting and strengthening India. It also sought to address unemployment and inflation issues, and what the Congress claimed, was the “politics of hate and division and over-centralisation of our political system”.

Further, Rahul Gandhi, targeting the BJP, said politics should revolve around unemployment and economic matters.

“During elections, issues not relevant to the public are raised. Politics should be on how to tackle unemployment, strengthen GDP, and take our economy forward. The BJP raided us but we are standing strong,” he added. (ANI)
