May 9 Incident Is Black Chapter In History: Pak army

Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General (DG) Major-General Ahmed Sharif called May 9 incident “extremely disappointing” and said that this is the black chapter of Pakistan’s history, Dawn reported.

Addressing a press conference on the “facts” of May 9, Sharif said, “Ladies and gentlemen, the incident of May 9 is extremely disappointing, condemnable and a black chapter in the history of our country.”
On May 9, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan was arrested at the Islamabad High Court in the Al Qadir Trust case. After his arrest, protests erupted in Pakistan and military installations including the Lahore corps commander’s residence and state properties were attacked in Pakistan.

“The events of May 9 have proven that what enemies couldn’t do in 76 years, a bunch of miscreants and their facilitators did,” the DG ISPR said, highlighting that the incident was “undoubtedly a conspiracy against Pakistan”.

He further stated that the investigation held until now has proven that May 9 incidents were planned for the past several months.

“Under this planning, first a conducive environment was created and people were instigated and provoked against the army,” Major Sharif added.

He said that a narrative based on lies and exaggeration was spread on social media inside and outside the country, adding that the authorities had obtained evidence against them, according to Dawn.

The DG ISPR said that there was a huge amount of grief and anger among the veterans over the events of May 9.

Maj-Gen Sharif said the families of the soldiers, who were killed during the riot, were hurt and “they ask all of us today if their loved ones rendered these sacrifices for the nation so that their memorials are disrespected in such a manner”.

The DG ISPR stressed that stability in any country was based on the relationship shared by the army and the citizens. He said that despite attempts, the enemy was unable to dent the relationship of “trust and respect between the army and the people”.

During the press conference, Maj-Gen Sharif revealed that three army officers, including a lieutenant general, were sacked from their jobs as a part of the military’s “self-accountability process” into the events of May 9, as per Dawn.

“After a deliberate accountability process, keeping the requests of in-court of inquiries in view, disciplinary proceedings were initiated against those who failed to keep the security and honour of garrisons, military installations, Jinnah House and General Headquarters intact.

“Three officers, including a lieutenant-general, have been removed from their jobs. Strict disciplinary proceedings against officers, including three major generals and seven brigadiers, have been completed,” he added. (ANI)

Thunderstorm With Light Intensity Rain Likely Over Delhi, NCR

Regional Weather Forecasting Centre (RWFC) Delhi on Monday issued warnings of thunderstorm with light-intensity rain to occur over Delhi and its adjoining areas.

“Thunderstorm with light intensity rain would occur over and adjoining areas of Rajaund, Assandh, Safidon, Jind, Hansi, Rohtak (Haryana) Shamli, Kandhla, Khatauli, Sakoti Tanda, Daurala, Meerut, Kithor, Garhmukteshwar, Hapur, Siyana (U.P.) Kotputli,” tweeted RWFC Delhi.
Heavy rainfall with lightning and thunderstorm lashed parts of the national capital on Sunday, bringing respite from the scorching heat. The NCR (National Capital Region) like Nodia, Gurugram, Faridabad and Ghaziabad also witnessed heavy rainfall.

Regional Weather Forecasting Centre (RWFC) predicted, light to moderate intensity rain would occur over and adjoining areas of entire Delhi and NCR.

The RWFC provides the weather forecasts for North-West India and the Delhi NCR region.

Earlier June 22, the national capital woke up to pleasant weather after receiving light rainfall.

Earlier on June 21, several parts of Gurugram witnessed waterlogging following heavy rainfall in the morning.

The water especially clogged the expressway after the rains, causing a traffic jam for up to 5 kilometers. People were highly inconvenienced as massive delays were caused, and public transport was also hindered.

A bus full of passengers was stuck in the waterlogged conditions for more than an hour and could do nothing but wait. (ANI)

Ambubachi Mela, Guwahati: Devotees Offer Prayers To Goddess Kamakhya

A large number of devotees on Monday offered prayers to Goddess Kamakhya after the main door of the temple reopened after Nivritti ceremonies at the Ambubachi Mela.

The annual four-day-long Ambubachi Mela commenced on June 22, and after the Pravritti ceremonies, the temple’s main door was closed for three days and three nights, scheduled to reopen on June 26.
As per the visuals, the devotees could be seen waiting in a long queue on the temple premises.

After performing Nivritti, the main door of the historic temple was reopened on Monday morning.

The Ambubachi Mela is an annual Hindu fair held at the historic Kamakhya Temple, and it is the celebration of the yearly menstruation course of goddess Maa Kamakhya. Kamakhya Temple is located atop the Nilachal Hills in Assam and is one of 51 Shaktipeeths in the country. Devotees believe that Mother Earth becomes unclean for three days during the Goddess’ menstrual cycle and during this time any farming work is not taken on.

The Assam government and Kamakhya Temple management committee had made all arrangements for this year’s Ambubachi Mela. The state government had arranged food, drinking water, and toilet facilities and set up several tent houses for the devotees. The devotees came from all over the country and even outside it.

Himadri Sarma, a priest at the Kamakhya temple said that the VIP system for Darshan would be stopped this year after the reopening of the gates, and the general devotee line would be the only way to visit the Goddess Kamakhya.

“The Pravritti will be performed and for three days and three nights from June 22 to June 25, the Nivritti will be performed. On June 26 morning, after sunrise, Nivritti will conclude. After the Pravritti, the temple’s main door will be closed and reopened after the performance of Nivritti. The special VIP Darshan will be stopped on June 26 and 27, and the general devotees will be given preference. People can perform puja, and visit the Goddess Kamakhya in the general line,” he had said.

He further added that the security deployment was increased during this year’s Mela. (ANI)

The past weekend was no exception. Big B waved to the awaiting fans at the gate of his residence on Sunday. However, this time he broke his ritual of meeting the fans “bare feet”.
Taking to his blog, Amitabh revealed that he met his fans wearing shoes on Sunday as he had blisters on his feet.

“… and a big difference today .. SHOES .. shoes because , shooting bare feet, whole of yesterday , gave rise to a rise in what is generally referred to bumps in the foot .. named blisters .. a similar incident earlier had incapacitated the body for long so taking precaution .. so the temple is still the same, and next time round it shall be revered,” he wrote.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Big B was last seen in the family entertainer film ‘Uunchai’ along with Anupam Kher, Parineeti Chopra and Boman Irani. Helmed by Sooraj Barjatya, the film got positive responses from the audience.

Obama Should Spend His Energy Complimenting India More Than Criticizing: Moore

Former president Barack Obama should spend his energy complimenting India more than criticizing it, according to a former commissioner of the US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) Johnnie Moore.

“I think the former president (Obama) should spend his energy complimenting India, more than criticizing India. India is the most diverse country in human history. It’s not a perfect country, just like the United States, it’s not a perfect country, but its diversity is its strength, and we should be complimenting the largest democracy in the world every chance that we can, that we have,” Moore, an evangelical leader, in an interview with ANI said.

Moore’s remarks come in the wake of an interview by Obama to CNN recently in which the former US President was cited as saying that Biden should raise the religious freedom issue with India, as he would have done had he still been the US president.

In an interview with CNN on Thursday, Obama said if India does not protect the rights of ethnic minorities, there is a strong possibility at some point that the country starts pulling apart. Obama also told CNN interviewer Christiane Amanpour that if President Joe Biden meets with PM Modi, “the protection of the Muslim minority in a majority Hindu India is something worth mentioning”.

Asked a question relating to India and China, Obama said he has worked with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the Paris Accords to deal with climate change.

“By the way, if I had a conversation with Prime Minister Modi, who I know well, part of my argument would be that if you do not protect the rights of ethnic minorities in India, then there is a strong possibility that India, at some point, starts pulling apart. And we have seen what happens when you start getting those kinds of large internal conflicts. So that would be contrary to the interests not just of Muslim Indians but also Hindu Indians. I think it is important to be able to talk about these things honestly. Things are not going to be as clean as you like, because the world is complicated,” Obama told CNN.

USCIRF is a US federal government commission which makes policy recommendations to the US government and was created by the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998. USCIRF Commissioners are appointed by the President and the leadership of both political parties in the Senate and the House of Representatives

The former USCIRF commissioner told ANI that PM Modi’s historic visit to the US was an occasion to be celebrated.

“And so I think, you know, it was the time to celebrate a historic visit, you know, rather than leveling some criticism on it, you know, with your friends, particularly when it comes to democracy. With your friends, it’s sometimes better to privately criticize and to publicly, publicly praised. That’s good geopolitics,” Moore said.

“I disagree with the sentiment of the former president (Barack Obama),” he said, adding, “Even in that critique of the former president Obama couldn’t help but also complement Prime Minister Modi, and I certainly understand why having spent some time with him,” Moore added.

Moore, who served as a spiritual advisor to former President Donald Trump, praised India’s “diverse democracy” and said that the country should be complemented every chance the world gets.

Notably, Moore who has served on the US Commission on International Religious Freedom for several years was sanctioned by China for his work in 2021.

Bharatiya Janata Party Vice President Baijayant Jay Panda slammed Obama for his remarks and said it is preposterous to see the former US President “pander to the anti-India crowd, lecturing India in the same breath as China for its atrocities in Xinjiang”.

Obama in his interview to CNN had also said it is important for the US president to say that if China is sending Ughurs to mass camps and they are being “re-educated, that’s a problem and a challenge to all of us” and there is a need to pay attention to it.

Obama’s comments had received backlash in India with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman stating that under his reign, the United States had bombed six Muslim-dominated countries.

While addressing a press conference in New Delhi on June 25, Sitharaman said, “It was surprising that when the PM was visiting the US and telling people about India, a former US President (Barack Obama) was making a statement on Indian Muslims…I am speaking with caution, we want a good friendship with the US, but they comment on India’s religious tolerance. Perhaps 6 Muslim-dominated countries were bombed due to him (Obama)… More than 26,000 bombs were dropped.”

The Union Finance Minister also defended PM Modi from questions surrounding the treatment being meted out to the Muslims in India and pointed out that out of 13 honours, that the Prime Minister received from different countries, six awards were from such nations where Muslims are in the majority.

“Honorable prime minister himself during the press conference in US has said how his government works on ‘Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas’ principle and doesn’t discriminate against any community whatsoever but the fact remains that repeatedly when people join in in this debate and highlight issues which are non-issues in a way because if there are issues in states which are to be raised they are being raised at the state level,” Sitharaman told reporters. Recently, the CSK captain shared a sweet encounter with a female fan who works as a flight attendant.
In a clip that has been widely shared online, the air hostess is seen offering Dhoni a tray full of chocolates and dry fruits on an IndiGo flight. Accompanied by his wife Sakshi, Dhoni graciously accepted a pack of dates while politely refusing the other items.

The air hostess also had a friendly conversation with him before returning to duty.

The particular video has left netizens in awe.

“Pure gold,” another one wrote.

Interestingly, the eagle-eyed fans spotted Dhoni playing Candy Crush on his tablet aboard the IndiGo airline.

The mobile gaming application has claimed that more than 30 lakh people downloaded their app in just three hours. Candy Crush’s Twitter page even thanked Dhoni for trending the game.

Meanwhile, Dhoni recently underwent a knee surgery post winning the IPL for fifth time.

He led CSK to their fifth IPL title after a five-wicket win in a thriller over Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on May 29. Dhoni scored 104 runs in 12 innings this IPL 2023. He scored these runs at an average of 26, with a strike rate of above 182. His best score this season was 32*.

Dhoni usually came out to bat in death overs and entertained the crowds with his entertaining cameos, mainly consisting of towering sixes. He smashed three fours and 10 sixes this season.

After the IPL win, Dhoni hinted that he could play one more season as a “gift” for his fans, but it depends on how his body holds up for the next few months.”If you circumstantially if you see it’s the best time to announce the retirement. The easy thing for me to say is thank you and retire. But the hard thing to do is to work hard for nine months and try to play one more IPL season. The body has to hold up. Let The Court Decide: Brij Bhushan After Wrestlers Withdraw Protest Against Him

Former Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on Monday said that the case of alleged sexual harassment against him is now in the court that will do its work.

“I do not want to comment on this as it is now under the court’s consideration. The matter is in the court, and the court will do its work,” Singh told ANI.
The remark came after the protesting wrestlers announced to withdraw their protest against him, stating that the government has fulfilled its promise of filing a chargesheet against Singh, a six-time BJP MP whom they have accused of sexual harassment.

Top wrestlers Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia, in identical tweets said that the fight will now be fought in court, not on the roads.

Malik took to Twitter on Sunday to state that the “battle will now be fought in court and not on roads till justice is delivered.”

“As per the talks held on June 7, the government has implemented our demands. The Delhi Police on June 15 had submitted before the court the chargesheet after conducting a probe into allegations of sexual harassment (against former WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh), on the basis of an FIR filed by six women wrestlers. Now, the fight will continue in court and not on roads till justice is delivered,” the tweet posted by the three top grapplers read.

They further said that they will wait for fresh WFI elections which are scheduled to take place on July 11 as promised by the government.

“The process for fresh Wrestling Federation of India election has begun. The polls are scheduled to be held on July 11 as promised by the government. We will wait for the implementation of the promise,” the wrestlers said.

Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat were leading protests against Singh over alleged sexual harassment since the beginning of this year.

Following their removal from their Jantar Mantar protest site on May 28, the grapplers had then suspended their protest until June 15 after being assured by Union sports minister Anurag Thakur that a chargesheet will be filed against the BJP MP Singh.

The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) elections have been postponed from July 6 to July 11, as per the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).

Members of the executive committee of WFI will be decided in the polls. The occupants of the post of president, one post of senior vice-president, four posts of vice president, one each position of secretary general and treasurer, two posts of joint secretary and five posts of an executive member will be decided, as per a letter from IOA.

The last date for receiving names for the electoral college was June 25 by 5:00 PM. Two nominations from each State/Union Territory will be made.

All state/UT wrestling federations will nominate two persons each of their respective associations, who are part of the executive body to form the electoral college for the election to elect the WFI’s executive committee, added the letter.

Preparation and display of the electoral college, circulation to affiliates and publishing of the same on websites of IOA/WFI will be done on June 28.

Submissions of nominations for election will be from June 29 to July 1 from 11 AM to 5 PM. The preparation and display of nominations received by returning officers will be done on July 3 by 1 PM.

“The scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on July 4 by 11 AM. The submission of the notice of withdrawal of candidates will be done between July 4 to July 7, till 5 PM. On July 8, a final list of candidates will be made by 11 AM,” the letter added.

Polling will be done on July 11 from 11 AM to 1:20 PM. The counting of votes will start from 1:30 PM and results will be declared on the same day. (ANI)

Kejriwal Slams LG Over Law And Order, Amid Robbery Case

A delivery agent and his associate were allegedly robbed of Rs 2 lakh at gunpoint by four unidentified men inside the Pragati Maidan tunnel here, Delhi police said on Monday.

The incident took place on Saturday inside the Pragati Maidan tunnel when the victims were going towards Gurugram in a cab to deliver the money.
“A delivery agent and his associate were robbed at gunpoint of Rs 1.5 to Rs 2 lakh cash by a group of unknown assailants inside the Pragati Maidan Tunnel on June 24,” the Delhi Police said.

The 1.5 km tunnel connects New Delhi with Sarai Kale Khan and Noida.

The police further said that following a complaint by the victims, a case has been registered under IPC sections 397 (robbery, or dacoity with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) and 34 (common intention).

After the CCTV visuals of the incident surfaced on social media, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal hit out at Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena demanding his resignation from his post.

Taking to Twitter, Kejriwal said that the LG should make way for someone “who can provide safety and security to the people of Delhi”.

“LG shud (should) resign. Make way for someone who can provide safety n (and) security to the people of Delhi. If Central govt is unable to make Delhi safe, hand it over to us. We will show u (you) how to make a city safe for its citizens,” the Delhi CM tweeted and posted the video of the accident.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Police Pranav Tayal said in connection with the incident, the complainant, identified as Patel Sajan Kumar, who works as a delivery agent for a private firm in Chandni Chowk, gave a written complaint in which he mentioned that he along with his associate Jigar Patel was going to Gurugram to deliver the cash to a client.

“As per the complaint, the two hired an Ola cab from near Red Fort. When they entered the Pragati Maidan tunnel from Ring Road, four people on two motorcycles intercepted their cab and robbed them of the cash bag at gunpoint,” Tayal told the reporters.

Delhi Minister Atishi also took to Twitter and said, “LG sir: If you get free time from taking credit for @ArvindKejriwal’s work, then sometimes pay attention to your constitutional responsibility. It is your job to provide security to the people of Delhi. And now incidents of theft, dacoity and murder are happening in Delhi in broad daylight. Either you take the responsibility of security, or else resign.” (ANI)
