AAP Min Saurabh Says Delhi Decked Up Ahead Of G20 Summit

Welcoming G20 delegates to the national capital for next month’s crucial summit, Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj said that the city has been decorated “like a bride” on Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s instructions.

“On Arvind Kejriwal’s instructions, Delhi has been decorated like a bride for hosting G20 summit. Delhi’s roads have been kept clean and beautified. Arrangements have been made so that the tourists who are coming don’t face any issues,” Saurabh Bharadwaj said speaking to ANI.

The Delhi Minister further said that they expect the G20 delegates to sing Arvind Kejriwal’s praise and Delhi’s praise when they go back to their respective nations, enamoured by Delhi’s “beauty”.

“We want that when representatives from different countries go back to their respective nations they praise Arvind Kejriwal’s Delhi for its beauty, more so the people of Delhi for being so graceful,” Saurabh Bharadwaj said.

Earlier in the day in his latest edition of his monthly radio broadcast — ‘Mann Ki Baat’ Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that India is fully geared to host the G20 Summit, which is to be hosted in the national capital.

He added that the summit next month, which is being hosted under India’s presidency of the G20, will give the world an insight into the country’s potential and rising global heft. With world leaders and delegates from over 40 countries expected to attend the event, Prime Minister Modi said the event in India will witness the biggest participation in the history of the G20 Summit.

He said India’s G20 presidency is “people’s presidency”, with public participation being at its forefront.

“The month of September will give the world a glimpse of India’s potential. We are fully prepared to host the G20 Leaders Summit next month in Delhi. Heads of 40 countries and many global organisations will be here to participate in the event. The event this year will see the biggest participation in the history of the G20 Summit,” PM Modi said.

“Our Presidency of G20 is a people’s presidency where the spirit of public participation is at the forefront. Eleven Engagement Groups of G20 — from academia, civil society, youth, women, our parliamentarians, entrepreneurs and people associated with urban administration — combined to play a critical role in helping us host this event,” he added. Chandrayaan-3: Vikram Lander Relays Data On Moon’s Temp

The Chandrayaan-3 lander module which landed on the Moon’s surface successfully has begun doing its set experiments and subsequently relaying them back to ISRO headquarters.

In its latest update, ISRO on Sunday put out the first observations recorded by the ‘ChaSTE’ payload onboard Vikram Lander.

Chandra’s Surface Thermophysical Experiment (ChaSTE) payload was attached to measure the thermal conductivity and temperature on the moon. The payload was developed by a team led by the Space Physics Laboratory (SPL), VSSC in collaboration with Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedabad

The payload attached to the lander recorded the variation of temperature on the lunar surface with an increase in depth. ISRO shared a graph on X, formerly Twitter, which showed the change in temperature on the moon’s surface and underneath.

At a depth of 8 cm, the payload recorded temperature as low as (-) 10 degrees centigrade. With the gradual rise towards the surface, the temperature too could be seen rising.

Above the surface, the graph showed a relative stagnancy in temperature between 50-60 degrees centigrade.

“This is the first such profile for the lunar south pole. Detailed observations are underway,” ISRO said.

On Wednesday, India took a giant leap as the Chandrayaan-3 lander module successfully landed on the moon’s South Pole, making it the first country to have achieved the historic feat and bringing to an end the disappointment over the crash landing of the Chandrayaan-2, four years ago.

Overall, India became the fourth country – after the US, China, and Russia – to have successfully landed on the moon’s surface.

Chandrayaan-3 mission’s estimated cost is Rs 600 crore.

Meanwhile, the Pragyan rover rolled out of Chandrayaan-3 Vikram lander’s belly and walked on the lunar surface. A video was released by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Thursday, which showed the rover coming out of the lander through a ramp.

Upon landing, the lander and the rover are operating and doing their set tasks and experiments for one lunar day. One day on the Moon is equal to 14 days on Earth.

The stated objectives of Chandrayaan-3, India’s third lunar mission, were a safe and soft landing on the lunar surface, the rover moving on the moon’s surface, and in-situ scientific experiments. The spacecraft was launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Andhra Pradesh’s Sriharikota on July 14.

Chandrayaan-2 mission was only “partially successful” since the lander lost contact after a hard landing. The ISRO though recently managed to establish a two-way communication between the Chandrayaan-3 lander module and the still-orbiting Chandrayaan-2 orbiter. (ANI)

Modi Lauds Indian Athletes For Record-Breaking Performance In World University Games

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday heaped praise on the Indian athletes for their exceptional performance in the World University Games, China, in the latest edition of his monthly radio broadcast, ‘Mann Ki Baat’.

India finished seventh in the FISU World University Games with a best-ever haul of 26 medals – 11 gold, five silver and 10 bronze. The 31st edition of the games was held in Chengdu from July 28 to August 8.

Significantly, before this edition, India managed to win just 18 medals in all the World University Games that have been held since 1959.

“A few days ago the World University Games were held in China. This time India’s best-ever performance was witnessed in these games. Our players won a total of 26 medals, out of which 11 were gold medals. You will be pleased to know that even if all the medals won in all the World University Games that have been held since 1959 are added, the tally reaches only 18,” PM Modi said in the 104th episode of Mann Ki Baat.

For India, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar was the most successful Indian athlete at the World University Games, winning four medals.

Tomar earned gold medals in the men’s 10m air rifle and 50m rifle 3 positions, as well as being a member of the men’s 10m air rifle team that won gold. He also took bronze in the men’s 50m rifle three-position team.

Manu Bhaker, the Youth Olympic Games champion, and Sift Kaur Samra both won many gold medals. Manu Bhaker won gold medals in both the individual and team events in the women’s 10m air pistol. In the women’s 50m rifle 3 places, Sift Kaur Samra replicated Manu’s victory.

Priyanka Goswami, who has a silver medal in the 10,000m walk at the Commonwealth Games and Asian Athletics Championships, finished seventh, the best among all Indians at the event, clocking timings of 1:40:39 – a good 12 seconds short of her national record of 1:28:45, achieved in 2021.

Pooja Kumawat (1:45:30), Mansi Negi (1:46:04) and Nikita Lamba (1:50:11) earned finishes at 15th, 16th and 21st spots respectively.

The next edition of the World University Games is slated to take place in 2025 in Germany. (ANI)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Dawn Of Revolution Lit Up Dark Side Of Moon: Modi Hails Chandrayaan- 3

Mission ‘Chandrayaan-3’ has emerged as the symbol of the spirit of a ‘New India’, which wants to emerge victorious under any circumstances, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in the latest edition of his monthly radio broadcast — ‘Mann Ki Baat’ — on Sunday.

India entered record books as the first country to successfully place a lander on the moon’s uncharted South Police on Wednesday, last week.

The successful conduct of what was the maiden lunar landing mission of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) also put India in an elite club of nations featuring the US, Russia and China.

“On August 23, our Chandrayaan-3 mission proved to the world that the dawn of revolution and resolve can also light up the dark side of the moon. Mission Chandrayaan has become a symbol and the spirit of a new India. This is an India, which wants to emerge victorious at all costs. It wants to break new grounds regardless of the circumstances,” PM Modi said.

He further said a discussion on India’s maiden lunar landing mission would struggle to do justice to the enormity of its success.

“The success of Chandrayaan-3 has seen the entire country immerse itself in unbridled celebrations. It has been more than three days since our lunar lander, ‘Vikram’, touched down on the moon’s surface. Such is the enormity of the mission’s success that any discussion on it seems futile,” PM Modi said.

On the key role played by ISRO’s women scientists in the successful conduct of the daunting lunar landing mission, PM Modi said the mission is a “classic illustration of women power”, adding that India’s daughters are not only shattering glass ceilings but also challenging Space, which is considered ‘infinite.’

“India’s Mission Chandrayaan is a classic illustration of our women power. Many women scientists and engineers were directly involved with this mission. They handled vital responsibilities such as those of a project director and project manager,” he said.

“Our daughters are even challenging the limitless Space. When the daughters of a country chase such big dreams, is there any force that can stop them or the country from making forward strides?” PM Modi added.

Also lauding the contribution of other sectors to the success of the Chandrayaan-3, PM Modi said, “Today, our dreams are big and so are the efforts to realise them. Along with our scientists, other sectors also contributed to the success of Chandrayaan-3. Many of my fellow countrymen contributed to the mission by meeting the technical requirements. It took everyone’s efforts and contributions to make this mission a success. This is the biggest success of mission Chandrayaan-3.”

Earlier, on Saturday, PM Modi announced that August 23 will, henceforth, be celebrated as ‘National Space Day’ to mark the success of India’s maiden lunar landing mission.

He also announced that the spot on the lunar South Pole where the Vikram lander touched down would be called the ‘Shiv Shakti Point’ while the spot on the moon’s surface where the Chandrayaan-2 left its mark would be known as the ‘Tiranga Point’.

“This mission will be a source of inspiration for every effort that goes into taking this country forward in the coming days. It will remind us that a failure isn’t the end of the world,” PM Modi said.

On Saturday, PM Modi interacted with the women scientists of the ISRO, who were involved in the ‘Chandrayaan-3’ project, commending the key role they played in the successful culmination of India’s maiden lunar landing mission. (ANI)

Future in BRICS

Does India Have a Meaningful Future in BRICS?

Three things made the news at the recently concluded summit in South Africa of the BRICS, a grouping of Brazil, Russia, China, India, and South Africa. The first of these is the group’s expansion. Six new countries–Saudi Arabia. Iran, Ethiopia, Egypt, Argentina, and the United Arab Emirates–have been invited to join BRICS. The queue to join BRICS is actually longer with at least two-dozen countries showing interest in signing up to what is projected as an alternative to the US-led western bloc. BRICS’ dominant leader, though, is clearly China with which Russia, the other big member of the group, is firmly in alliance.

The second thing during the three-day conference was that China’s President Xi Jinping missed a highly-anticipated speech at the conference. Instead he sent his commerce minister to deliver his speech, which mainly consisted of hostile comments directed at the West (read: the US).

The third thing that happened is a bit of trivia but we mention it here because readers will be hard-pressed in their efforts to find it in the reportage by the mainstream media. It concerns India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to a South African news portal, The Daily Maverick, when Modi landed in Pretoria he apparently refused to disembark because the South African president Cyril Ramaphosa had not come to receive him and that he finally emerged from the aircraft after deputy president Paul Mashatile was despatched to receive Modi.

Officially neither South Africa nor India has commented on this but the portal alleged that after it had reported on the “incident” its website was subjected to cyberattacks that it claims originated in India.

Cut to BRICS and its significance today. The reasons why countries want to join BRICS vary but many want to seek more economic opportunities and cooperation with other developing countries. Many of them also want to diversify their foreign policy and reduce their dependence on the West. In a sense, BRICS is seen as challenging the existing global order and international systems that are dominated by the US and its allies and many nations buy into the rationale for that challenge. BRICS, for many aspirant members, offers a platform where they can gain more recognition and influence.

Does BRICS have the potential to challenge the West, though? This year the world’s interest in the BRICS summit has peaked and it is easy to see why. Russia, a BRICS member, whose powerful ally is China, the most powerful BRICS member, is at war in Ukraine; and Chinese-American relations are probably at its lowest in several decades. All eyes clearly are on what happens at a group such as BRICS that is also expanding rapidly.

The significance of BRICS in geopolitics is that it represents a potential alternative to the Western-led system of global governance. BRICS aims to promote the interests and values of the Global South, which often feel unfairly treated by the current international rules and norms. BRICS also seeks to enhance its collective voice and bargaining power in global issues such as trade, climate change, security, development and human rights.

By expanding its membership, BRICS hopes to increase its legitimacy and representation on the world stage. However, BRICS also faces many challenges and limitations. The interests of BRICS members vary as does the sort of political systems that operate in each of them: there are democracies such as India’s, authoritarian dictatorships such as Russia’s; and China’s Communist system. BRICS in its current form lacks a clear vision or agenda.

For instance, for China, which was the main focus of interest in Pretoria, BRICS is seen as a way of garnering as much of the global south’s support as it can in its quest to change the world order and shift its axis in its favour. Compare that with India, which, as it continues its long-standing trade and defence ties with Russia, has been cosying up to the US, and has disputes with China over the countries’ border. For India. The relevance and importance of being in BRICS seems more ambiguous than, say, it is for China or, for that matter, Russia.

Now, with BRICS all set to expand vastly, especially with the inclusion of oil-rich Saudi Arabia, how the grouping’s agenda and vision change will be interesting to watch.

Chandrayaan 3 and its Impact for India

For all Indians, the recent success of the nation’s Chandrayaan-3 mission to the moon was a moment of great pride. India became the fourth country after the US, Russia, and China, to land on the moon and the first to do so near the lunar south pole, which is a region of great scientific interest and potential resources. The mission demonstrated India’s technological prowess and ability to achieve its ambition in space exploration.

Chandrayaan also showed how India could carry out the mission at a much lower cost. India is believed to have spent around Rs. 615 crore, or about $74 million, which is much cheaper than many Hollywood movies or other space missions. The mission’s outcome means that India has joined an elite group of countries that have successfully landed on the moon, and has opened new possibilities for future lunar exploration and cooperation.

The Surprise Rise of Vivek Ramaswamy

Vivek Ramaswamy is 38; a Tamil by ethnicity; and a Hindu by religion. He is also a member of the US Republican Party; and, most importantly, a candidate for the presidential nominee for that party’s candidate for the 2024 US presidential election. And if you have been following the Republican Party’s first debate among eight hopefuls running for the race to get nominated, then you’d have seen he was probably the most impressive among them during that debate.

Ramaswamy is no politician. In fact, he is a tech and biotech entrepreneur who is worth millions.

Now, the Yale and Harvard alum has cast his eyes on the White House. Pitted against seasoned Republican politicians such as former US vice-president Mike Pence, governors Chris Christie and Ron de Santis, and Nikki Haley, at last week’s debate it was Ramaswamy who stood out.

As a self-proclaimed “outsider” Ramaswamy seemed to get popular support for many of his views, which include raising of the voting age to 25; cutting off the US support to Ukraine and instead focusing on securing its own southern border with Mexico through which the drug mafia and illegal immigrants operate; and the abolition of the the Federal Bureau of Investigation and some other US agencies because he feels they have become irrelevant.

His rightwing views seem to have touched a chord among many Americans. Immediately after the debate, during which his more seasoned rivals called him a rookie and novice,  Ramaswamy is believed to have raised US$450,000 for his campaign.

The road to the presidential elections is a long one. There will be many more debates and campaigning before the Republican Party chooses its candidate. And, although former president Donald Trump, embroiled in a series of indictments, did not participate in the debate (his interview with a sympathetic former TV host was aired on X, instead) still commands the highest popularity among Republican voters for the candidacy. Yet, Ramaswamy’s performance at the debate has created ripples. All eyes will now also be on him.

The Good and the Bad About India’s Young Population

India, along with China and Indonesia, is projected by the consultant firm McKinsey & Co. to have the largest working-age population in the world by 2030. This demographic dividend could be a source of strength and opportunity for India, but also pose some challenges and risks.

Let’s take a look at the pros and cons of this. First, the pros:

A larger labor force can produce more goods and services, and increase the GDP and per capita income of the country. India could add an estimated $1 trillion to its annual GDP by 2030 if it increases its labor force participation rate to 40%.

A larger pool of workers can also lead to more creativity and entrepreneurship, and enhance the productivity and quality of the economy. India could leverage its talent and skills to become a leader in sectors such as IT, biotechnology, renewable energy, and manufacturing.

A larger working population can also support the development of human capital and social infrastructure, such as education, health care, pensions, and housing. This can improve the living standards and well-being of the people, and reduce poverty and inequality.

Now for some cons:

A larger labour force also means more competition for jobs and wages, especially in a context of slow economic growth and structural changes. India already faces a high unemployment rate of around 7.5%, and many workers are employed in informal and low-productivity sectors.

A larger working population puts more pressure on consumption and production, which can strain the natural resources and environment of the country. India already faces challenges such as water scarcity, air pollution, climate change, and biodiversity loss.

A larger working population can also create social and political tensions, especially among different groups based on age, gender, caste, religion, region, or ethnicity. India already witnesses frequent protests and violence over issues such as jobs, land, education, reservation, citizenship, and identity.

A larger pool of workers, therefore, can be a double-edged sword.

Is Prigozhin’s Death Putin’s Revenge?

It has been barely two months since Yevgeny Prigozin, the head of Russian mercenary army Wagner, attempted a coup by marching his troops towards Moscow before aborting that attempt. Last week reports claimed that Prigozhin was aboard a private aircraft that crashed after an explosion occurred and that the one-time Vladimir Putin confidant and one of Russia’s most powerful men had been killed.

No official version of details about what happened is available but speculation about whether Prigozhin’s death is a fallout of his show of rebellion abounds. Was the plane sabotaged? Did a missile hit it while it was on its flight path not too far away from Moscow? Was it something that the Kremlin had a hand in? These are questions that are unanswered and will, probably, remain that way.

Manohar Lal Khattar-led

Haryana: Sec 144 Imposed In Nuh, Permission Denied To Hold Braj Mandal Shobha Yatra

The Manohar Lal Khattar-led Haryana government on Saturday said that no permission has been granted to hold Braj Mandal Shobha Yatra in Nuh adding that section 144 has been imposed in the district.

Addressing the media, Nuh Deputy Commissioner Dhirendra Khadgata said, “We have denied the permission for yatra (Braj Mandal Shobha Yatra). Still, some have said they will conduct the yatra. We have imposed Section 144.”

Haryana Police on Saturday said that the internet services have been suspended in Nuh district till August 28.

“As a preventive measure, internet services have been suspended in Nuh from 12 noon on August 26 upto 11:59 pm on August 28,” an official statement said.

Earlier Vishwa Hindu Parishad said that they will bring out a Braj Mandal Jal Abhishek Yatra on August 28 in Nuh.

Haryana government authorities have, however, denied permission for the Yatra citing apprehensions of disturbance of law and order expressed by local police as well as intelligence agencies.

Earlier today Haryana Director General of Police (DGP) Shatrujeet Kapur presided over a meeting with senior police officers of bordering States through video conferencing here today and called for a coordinated effort to effectively deal with the situation.

In the meeting, which was attended by the senior police officers of states of Punjab, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Union Territory of Chandigarh, Kapur said that Nuh administration has denied permission to the organizers of Yatra in wake of meeting of G20 Sherpa group scheduled to be held in Nuh from September 3 to 7 and to maintain law and order situation in the aftermath of violence that took place on July 31, 2023.

“Even though permission has been denied to hold Jal Abhishek Yatra, there are inputs that certain organizations have invited people from Haryana and other neighbouring States to reach Nuh on August 28,” DGP said.

While emphasizing the need for sharing intelligence inputs to effectively deal with the situation, Kapur asked the senior police functionaries of bordering States to ensure regular monitoring of social media platforms and share information about the people who try to disrupt peace through hate speeches and take action against them as per the law.

“Besides, interstate barricading should be done to prevent any kind of mobilization of people. Nobody would be allowed to take the law in their hands,” he said.

The DGP said that ADGP Law and Order Mamta Singh would be the Nodal Officer and she would be stationed in Nuh.

During the meeting, Haryana DGP asked the police officers of bordering states that in case any incident came to their notice that could disrupt communal harmony, it should be shared on a real-time basis so that preventive action could be taken on time. (ANI)

Noida High-Rises Need Lift Safety Laws

‘Noida High-Rises Urgently Require Strict Lift Safety Laws’

Dhirendra Singh, legislator from Jewar constituency, says he has taken up the matter to CM’s office and is hopeful of prompt action to prevent mishaps. His views:

On August 4, a tragic incident took place in one of the high-rise housing societies of Noida where a 73-year old lady died when the cable of the lift she was travelling in, snapped due to a malfunction. As the representative of the Jewar constituency in Greater Noida, I am deeply moved by this mishap. This incident has not only saddened us all but also awakened us to the urgent need for improved safety measures in our vertical living spaces.

With a strong sense of responsibility towards my constituents and an unwavering commitment to their well-being, I recently met with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to address this matter: the immediate formulation and implementation of a comprehensive Lift Safety Act. The severity of the situation prompted me to directly address this issue with the Chief Minister in Lucknow.

During our discussion, I stressed the pressing need for a regulatory framework that comprehensively addresses various aspects of lift safety, accountability, and maintenance. The tragic incident at the Paras Tierra society highlighted the inherent risks posed by lift malfunctions in high-rise buildings. It also brought to the forefront the larger implications for the numerous residents who heavily rely on elevators for their daily vertical movement.

Based on consultations with concerned residents, I articulated a concise four-point agenda that encapsulates the fundamental elements of an effective Lift Safety Act. Foremost among these points is the imperative of ensuring the safety and proper maintenance of lifts. Elevators are integral to modern living, and it is our duty to establish rigorous guidelines for regular upkeep and safety inspections to prevent similar unfortunate incidents in the future.

Accountability is another pivotal aspect of our agenda. It is crucial to define the responsibilities of all stakeholders, including builders, manufacturers, and service providers, involved in lift construction, operation, and maintenance. This transparency and accountability will create a framework that leaves no room for negligence or oversights.

ALSO READ: ‘Gr Noida Authority Must Wake to Traffic Terror’

Equally essential is the assurance of high-quality lift services and their seamless operation. The proposed regulatory act would set benchmarks for service providers, motivating them to maintain the highest standards of technological proficiency, prompt repairs, and a rapid response mechanism during emergencies.

The last pillar of our agenda centers on establishing an effective mechanism for addressing complaints. It is vital for residents to have a reliable platform through which they can voice concerns and lodge complaints about lift functionality, safety issues, or any related matters. A robust complaint redressal system will ensure timely interventions and instill a sense of security among our community members.

I’m pleased to announce that the upcoming assembly session will see discussions about the “Lift Safety Act.” It’s a significant step forward, and I firmly believe that builders must shoulder the responsibility of ensuring such incidents do not occur. Timely and proper maintenance of lifts should be prioritized to ensure the safety of our residents.

The primary goal of advocating for the Lift Safety Act is to prevent such unfortunate incidents from occurring again and to safeguard the lives and well-being of our residents. As we witness the rapid urbanization and expansion of areas like Noida and Greater Noida, it becomes our responsibility to ensure that this growth is accompanied by unwavering commitment to safety standards. The proposed act aims to foster an environment of safety and security by instilling accountability and responsibility among all stakeholders involved in lift operations.

The tragic event in our community has ignited a fervor within me to passionately champion the cause of lift safety. By addressing the issues of maintenance, accountability, service quality, and complaint resolution, I am confident that we can bring about positive change that will reverberate throughout the high-rise landscape of our region. It is my sincere hope that this act will serve as a testament to our enduring dedication to the safety and well-being of our constituents, both now and in the future.

As told to Deepti Sharma

Aditya-L1 Maiden solar mission

India’s Maiden Solar Mission, ‘Aditya-L1’, To Be Launched On Sept 2: ISRO

Shifting focus to its next space odyssey after successfully placing a lander on the moon’s uncharted South Pole, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Saturday said the country’s maiden solar mission — Aditya-L1 — will “possibly” be launched on September 2.

Aditya-L1 would be the first space-based Indian observatory to study the Sun.

Speaking to ANI barely minutes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address to scientists at the ISRO’s Bengaluru headquarters, Nilesh M Desai, a top space scientist at the agency and the director of Space Applications Centre (SAC), Ahmedabad, said, “We had planned the ‘Aditya-L1’ mission to study the sun. The mission is ready for launch. There is a possibility that the spacecraft will be launched on September 2.”

He said PM Modi’s address to the scientists at ISRO’s Bengaluru command centre was ‘motivating’.

“PM Modi’s speech was hugely motivating. His announcements will inspire us to plan and execute similar missions going forward. His announcements have filled us with motivation and new zeal to rededicate ourselves to working for the country in the space domain,” Desai told ANI.

Sudheer Kumar N, director, Capacity Building & Public Outreach (CBPO), ISRO told ANI, “I don’t have enough words to express what I felt about PM Modi’s address here. I can’t thank him enough for visiting us here just after landing in India. He said he couldn’t stop himself from visiting us. This was more than what we could expect. His announcements were not only meant to celebrate the success of our lunar landing mission but also to enable future generations to remember the day and the achievement.”

Earlier, speaking to ANI, ISRO chairman S Somanth said the country’s maiden mission to study the sun will be ready for launch in the first week of September.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday announced that August 23 will be celebrated as ‘National Space Day’ to mark Chandrayaan-3’s landing on the moon.

He announced that the spot where the ‘Vikram’ lander touched down on the lunar surface would henceforth be known as the ‘Shivshakti’ point while the imprint left by the Chandrayaan-2 on the lunar surface will be called the ‘Tiranga’ point’.

Earlier, on Saturday, PM Modi was accorded a warm reception as he arrived at the ISRO headquarters.

He met the team of scientists involved in the country’s third lunar mission and was pictured embracing ISRO chief S Somanath.

Locals, holding up posters and the tricolour had lined the streets outside the airport to welcome PM Modi.

Upon landing at the HAL airport in Bengaluru, he waved at the cheering locals and raised the slogan “Jai Vigyan Jai Anusandhan (Glory to Science, Glory to Research)”. (ANI)

Modi Told Us Sky Is Not The Limit: ISRO Women Scientists

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday landed in Bengaluru to meet the scientists of the Indian Research and Space Organisation (ISRO) behind the successful accomplishment of India’s lunar mission. Several of the women scientists working at ISRO had a special opportunity to interact with the PM.

Reema Ghosh, a senior scientist and a team member of the Pragyan module, spoke to ANI about her experience interacting with PM Modi.

“It was wonderful. PM Modi visited us. He supported us and told us that the Sky is not the limit. Our Prime Minister took so much time to appreciate our efforts and sacrifices”, said Ghosh.

Speaking on future plans of the ISRO, she said, “Definitely, we will come up with something even better. We are very excited as the Aditya-L1 (ISRO’s solar mission) will be launched. We will embrace more challenging missions”.

Prime Minister Modi interacted with the women scientists of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), who were involved in the ‘Chandrayaan-3’ project, commending the key role that they played in the successful culmination of India’s maiden lunar landing mission.

Addressing scientists at ISRO’s Telemetry Tracking and Command Network Mission Control Complex in Bengaluru on Saturday, PM Modi said, “Women scientists played a key role in the success of the Chandrayaan-3 mission. The ‘Shivkshakti’ point (spot on the lunar South Pole where the ‘Vikram’ lander touched down) will inspire future generations to take up science in earnest and use it for the welfare of people. People’s welfare remains our supreme commitment,” PM Modi said to applause from the audience.

Another ISRO’s senior scientist, Nidhi Porwal told ANI, “It is always good when the head of the family comes and appreciates us. It is a pleasure for all of us. We have 20-25% of women’s strength in ISRO. It is really good for women coming up in every field”.

“It was a cherishing moment for all of us. He spoke to all the women scientists. Definitely, there are men also who walked with us to make the mission accomplished”, said Daffini, a senior ISRO scientist while speaking to ANI.

Another scientist, Reddy Saritha, spoke to ANI sharing her experience communicating with the Prime Minister.

She said, “We are feeling proud. It was a nice experience for all of us”.

“We are super excited. We felt that our achievements were being recognized. We are super excited to meet PM Modi. Spirit is high…It is good that our PM is recognising and encouraging ‘Nari Shakti’. It is an inspiration for us”, Priyanka Mishra, an ISRO scientist, said while speaking to ANI.

PL Arthy Sen, a scientist working for the Gaganyan mission, told ANI that the Chandrayaan mission is the biggest inspiration for the Gaganyan.

Speaking on the Gaganyan mission, Sen said, “Chandrayaan-3 is the biggest inspiration for Gaganyaan, we’re ready…our works are going on for Gaganyaan. Mark 3 is all set…Gaganyaan results can be seen soon…we need to make Mark 3 more powerful and the process is on…almost all the systems are developed…we want everyone’s support for Gaganyaan also”.

According to the ISRO, Gaganyaan is an Indian crewed orbital spacecraft intended to be the formative spacecraft of the Indian Human Spaceflight Programme.

Nithya Bharati, another scientist at ISRO, said, “I am very happy to be a part of this mission and very excited that we have successfully completed this mission”.

Savitri, an ISRO scientist also spoke to ANI about her experience meeting with PM Modi.

“We’re very happy that all the components were delivered and our system performed perfectly and we could achieve the result the entire nation was waiting for…we wish our future missions get similar success…The PM named the landing point ‘Shiv Shakti’ and it is related ‘Shakti’ with ‘Nari Shakti’, it made us very proud…”, Savitri said.

PM Modi, during his address to the scientists, said that the touchdown spot of the Vikram lander on the lunar surface would be known as the ‘Shivshakti’ point while the Chandrayaan-2 Lunar landing point will be called the ‘Tiranga’ point.

The Prime Minister also declared August 23 (the day when Chandrayaan-3 became successful) as the ‘National Space Day’.

India took a giant leap on Wednesday evening as the Chandrayaan-3 lander module successfully landed on the moon’s South Pole, making it the first country to have achieved the historic feat and bringing to an end the disappointment over the crash landing of the Chandrayaan-2, four years ago.

Overall, India became the fourth country – after the US, China, and Russia – to have successfully landed on the moon’s surface. (ANI)
