Naor Gilon Hamaz

Israel Envoy To India Calls For Lighting Diya Of Hope For Israeli Hostages Held By Hamas

As the festival of lights — Diwali approaches in India, Israel’s Ambassador Naor Gilon has urged to light a ‘Diya of Hope’ for the hostages held by Hamas since the October 7 assault on the country.

Drawing a comparison, Gilon, in a video posted on X (formerly Twitter) said that as Lord Ram’s return is celebrated on Diwali by lighting Diyas, a Diya (lamp) must be lit in the hope of having our loved ones return.

“240 of our loved ones have been held hostage by #HamasTerrorists for a month. Every #Diwali, we celebrate Lord Ram’s return by lighting Diyas,” Gilon said.

“THIS #Diwali2023 we invite you to light a Diya in the hope of having our loved ones return Tag us and share your photos using the #DiyaOfHope,” he further added.

Meanwhile the Israeli Defence Forces today released pictures of various weapons recovered from Hamas terrorists during their operations. According to the IDF some of the weapons found on Hamas’ terrorists on October 7th include; 1,493 hand grenades and explosives, 760 RPGs, 427 explosive belts, 375 firearms, 106 rockets and missiles.

“These are just a few of the weapons used to massacre over 1,400 Israeli civilians. Weapons used for the killing of innocents” the IDF said.

Earlier, Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel will have “security responsibility” over the Gaza Strip for an indefinite period following its war against Hamas.

“The situation in Gaza post-war remains uncertain, with concerns about how Israel plans to manage it. I think Israel will for an indefinite period have security responsibility,” Netanyahu told ABC News.

“We’ve seen what happens when we don’t have that… security responsibility, what we have is the eruption of Hamas terror on a scale that we couldn’t imagine” he added.

The war with Hamas began after approximately 3,000 terrorists breached the Gaza border on October 7, resulting in the deaths of around 1,400 people, mainly civilians, and the abduction of over 240 individuals, including at least 30 children.(ANI)

The All India Football Federation (AIFF)

AIFF Sacks Shaji Prabhakaran As Secretary General Due To Breach Of Trust

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) on Wednesday announced that the services of Shaji Prabhakaran have been terminated due to an alleged breach of trust with immediate effect.

“The All India Football Federation hereby announces that the services of Shaji Prabhakaran have been terminated due to breach of trust with immediate effect as of November 7, 2023,” AIFF said in an official statement.

The AIFF Deputy Secretary, M Satyanarayan, will take charge as Acting Secretary General of AIFF with immediate effect.

Shaji’s contract was terminated with immediate effect by AIFF due to a “breach of trust.”

Prabhakaran was appointed to the position last September, replacing Kushal Das as part of AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey’s new team. In the last year, AIFF has attempted to resurrect the once-prestigious Santosh Trophy by moving the tournament’s final stage to Saudi Arabia. For the first time since 2018, the men’s national team entered the top 100 FIFA rankings.

On November 6, Shaji Prabhakaran in a cryptic post on X said that office bearer needed to work with sincerity and without personal interests.

“We have to remain true to our game and when we have the position of power and influence then our responsibility is far higher to do our work with sincerity and dedication without any personal interests. Never allow personal interests to dominate the mind and decisions. Let’s focus on our mission to transform football and make India proud. There can’t be a bigger satisfaction in life than to see India shining on the pitch on a bigger stage” he had posted on X.

The sacking of the General Secretary comes just days before India begins its journey to attempt to qualify for the FIFA World Cup 2026 with a match against Kuwait in Kuwait City on November 16.

Shaji Prabhakaran, was earlier the president of Football Delhi. On September 6, 2022, he resigned from that position and took over as AIFF secretary general.

In another post on X, Prabhakaran, who was recently appointed as an AFC executive member, complained about a lack of money inside the federation to establish the Video Assistant Referral (VAR) system in Indian football leagues. (ANI)

Glenn Maxwell Virat

Virat Hails Glenn Maxwell’s Marvellous Double Ton Against Afgh

India’s batting talisman Virat Kohli heaped praise on star Australia all-rounder and his Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) teammate, Glenn Maxwell, for a knock for the ages that helped five-time champions Australia seal a spot in the semifinals of the ongoing ODI World Cup.

Coming into bat with Australia staring down the barrel chasing an imposing 292 against Afghanistan at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, Maxwell singlehandedly took the Baggy Greens to a famous win with an unbeaten double-century.

Battling cramps and niggles, the ‘Mad Max’ of cricket produced an innings that will undoubtedly remain in public memory for years to come.

Over the course of his superlative knock, he also became the first non-opener in men’s ODIs to make a double hundred.

His knock of 201 off 128 balls which is already being hailed as one of the best in ODI history, was laced with 21 fours and 10 sixes. He brought up the winning runs with his 10th six.

After a mediocre start to the campaign at the beginning of last month, Australia posted its sixth straight win in the ongoing World Cup against Afghanistan on Wednesday.

Lauding his brother from RCB for his ‘freak’ show at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, Kohli took to his Instagram story and posted a special post for Maxwell.

Sharing an image of ‘Big Show’ Maxwell, Kohli wrote, “Only you could do this. Freak.”

Many cricketers praised Maxwell’s ODI innings as one of the best in the format’s history. Batting stalwart Sachin Tendulkar called the innings the “best ODI knock”.

“A wonderful knock by @IZadran18to put Afghanistan in a good position. They started well in the 2nd half and played good cricket for 70 overs but the last 25 overs from @Gmaxi_32 was more than enough to change their fortune. From Max pressure to Max performance! This has been the best ODI knock I’ve seen in my life. #AUSvAFG,” Sachin posted from his X handle.

Maxwell was almost forced to retire due to multiple cramps and lingering back spasms, but he defied his physical discomfort to produce a sensational innings.

Maxwell scored 78 runs off just 33 balls, staying rooted to the crease but wielding his willow to great effect, finding boundaries at will.

He singlehandedly lifted the Aussies from a precarious 91/7 to a three-wicket victory over Afghanistan, which was enough to seal their place in the last four. (ANI)

Noida Ghaziabad School

Schools Closed In Noida, Gzb Till Friday Amid Deteriorating Air Quality

Noida and Ghaziabad district administrations have decided that all schools under its jurisdiction will discontinue physical classes in schools, as the air quality index in the national capital region continues to deteriorate and remain “severe” category.

All schools in the districts Gautam Budha Nagar and Ghaziabad are directed to follow the implementation of the Graded Responses Action Plan Stage-IV up to November 10.

The administration suggested schools that they conduct classes in online mode.

Meanwhile, the neighbouring Delhi government on Monday decided to reintroduce the odd-even rule from November 13 to 20 in view of the concerns of deterioration in air quality. A decision on further extending the odd-even rule would be taken later.

The odd-even scheme of the Delhi government is a traffic rationing measure under which vehicles with registration numbers ending with an odd digit will be allowed on roads on odd dates and those with an even digit on even dates.

According to the 8-point action plan, there will be a ban on entry of truck traffic into Delhi (except for trucks carrying essential commodities/ providing essential services and all LNG/ CNG/ electric trucks). Also, a ban will be imposed on the plying of Delhi-registered diesel-operated Medium Goods Vehicles (MGVs) and Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) in Delhi, except those carrying essential commodities/ providing essential services. GRAP Stage-IV restrictions also include NCR and the Delhi government may take a decision on discontinuing physical classes even for classes VI-IX, and class XI and conduct lessons in an online mode.

The air pollution crisis is an annual affair in Delhi. Air pollution levels can be high during the winter months for a number of reasons, including dust and vehicular pollution, dry-cold weather, stubble burning, burning crop residues after the harvest season, and commuting.

Cold air is denser and moves slower than warm air, so it traps pollution and doesn’t whisk it away. This means that air pollution in winter remains in place for much longer than during the summer.

According to doctors, for any healthy person, a recommended AQI should be less than 50, but these days the AQI has spiked beyond 400, which could prove fatal for people, particularly with comorbidities. (ANI)

Aditya-L1 ISRO

Aditya-L1 Captures First High-Energy X-Ray Glimpse Of Solar Flares

The X-ray spectrometer, HEL1OS, attached to Aditya-L1 spacecraft by ISRO for its maiden solar mission, captured the first high-energy X-ray glimpse of solar flares.

In its update, ISRO on Tuesday noted that the spectrometer on board Aditya-L1 has recorded the impulsive phase of solar flares, during its first observation period from approximately October 29, 2023.

A solar flare is a sudden brightening of the solar atmosphere. Flares produce enhanced emission in all wavelengths across the electromagnetic spectrum – radio, optical, UV, soft X-rays, hard X-rays and gamma-rays.

Commissioned on October 27, 2023, the HEL1OS X-ray spectrometer is currently undergoing fine-tuning of thresholds and calibration operations. It has been monitoring the Sun for hard X-ray activities ever since.

“The instrument is set to monitor the sun’s high-energy X-ray activity with fast timing and high-resolution spectra,” ISRO wrote on its X timeline. HEL1OS data enables researchers to study explosive energy release and electron acceleration during impulsive phases of solar flares.

HEL1OS was developed by the Space Astronomy Group of the UR Rao Satellite Centre of ISRO in Bengaluru.

In early October, the Aditya-L1 spacecraft which is carrying out India’s first solar mission performed a trajectory correction manoeuvre (TCM), for about 16 seconds.

ISRO had then noted that the manoeuvre was needed to correct the trajectory evaluated after tracking the Trans-Lagrangean Point 1 Insertion (TL1I) manoeuvre performed on September 19.

So far in its journey, the spacecraft has undergone a few earth-bound manoeuvres and a Trans-Lagrangean Point 1 Insertion (TL1I) manoeuvres, all successfully. In the process, the spacecraft successfully escaped the sphere of Earth’s influence.

Aditya-L1 has also commenced collecting scientific data. The sensors of the STEPS (Supra Thermal and Energetic Particle Spectrometer) instrument have begun measuring supra-thermal and energetic ions and electrons at distances greater than 50,000 km from Earth.

This data would help scientists analyze the behaviour of particles surrounding Earth. The figure below displays variations in the energetic particle environment, collected by one of the units.

After the successful soft landing of Chandrayaan-3 near the South pole of the moon, the ISRO launched the country’s maiden solar mission — Aditya-L1 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota on September 2.

It carried seven different payloads to have a detailed study of the sun, four of which will observe the light from the sun and the other three will measure in-situ parameters of the plasma and magnetic fields.

Aditya-L1 will be placed in a halo orbit around Lagrangian Point 1 (or L1), which is 1.5 million km away from the Earth in the direction of the sun. It is expected to cover the distance in four months’ time.Aditya-L1 will stay approximately 1.5 million km away from Earth, directed towards the Sun, which is about 1 per cent of the Earth-Sun distance. The Sun is a giant sphere of gas and Aditya-L1 would study the outer atmosphere of the Sun.

ISRO had said Aditya-L1 will neither land on the sun nor approach the sun any closer.

This strategic location will enable Aditya-L1 to continuously observe the sun without being hindered by eclipses or occultation, allowing scientists to study solar activities and their impact on space weather in real-time. Also, the spacecraft’s data will help identify the sequence of processes that lead to solar eruptive events and contribute to a deeper understanding of space weather drivers. (ANI)

“I don’t want it to seem like ‘oh I am hiding my daughter’s face.’ I am proud of her. We are proud of our baby. The intention with which it came out initially was that we are new parents, we don’t know how we feel about her face being splashed all over Instagram. She is barely a year old. We don’t find the need for her to be a moment of paparazzi. She is still too little.”

Alia assured that she will reveal her baby’s face when she’ll be comfortable with the idea. (ANI)

IIT Kanpur Ready For Cloud Seeding Over Delhi

As thick smog shrouded the entire national capital region and its neighbouring cities after the air quality continued to remain in the ‘severe’ category, IIT Kanpur, which has been working on cloud seeding technology, said it has its own aircraft for the purpose and is fitted with flares that are needed to form such artificial rains.

Manindra Aggarwal, Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Kanpur and leader of the project, stated that IIT Kanpur has its own aircraft which is currently fitted with flares for cloud seeding.

“And it was also approved by DGCA. Through this, we can do cloud seeding anywhere. As far as the Delhi government is concerned, we have received some phone calls from the Delhi government,” Aggarwal said.

Also, he said they have been working with the Confederation of Indian Industry for the past two months on how and when they should go about it.

“CII office is very active and is coordinating with both the Delhi Government and Central Government,” the IIT Kanpur professor said, without divulging any details on when they are planning for actual cloud seeding in the national capital region.

Further, asked whether cloud seeding was a permanent solution, he explained it is alike natural rains and helps in settling down suspended dust and particulate matters present in the environment. He suggested action should be instead taken on the actual sources of pollution.

“When it rains through cloud Seeding, the dust particles get washed away with the water, thereby making the environment free from pollution, but unless we take action on the sources of pollution, pollution will occur again. Therefore, control of pollution through cloud seeding is temporary which lasts for one week to two weeks,” the professor said.

He also contended that Delhi being a large city, would not be easy to cloud seed in its entirety.

“Delhi/NCR has an area of more than 1000 square kilometres. So to ensure rain there, cloud seeding will be required over a large area. Now it depends on which area the clouds are found, it is not necessary that there should be clouds over Delhi NCR. So wherever there will be clouds, we will have to work accordingly, and we have no control over it,” added the professor.

On the cost of cloud seeding, the IIT Kanpur professor, without getting into specifics, said it is definitely a bit expensive but will go a long way in helping reduce pollution for some time.

Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai called a meeting of all concerned departments on Monday in view of the increasing pollution. The Delhi government on Monday decided to reintroduce the odd-even rule from November 13 to 20 in view of the concerns of deterioration in air quality. A decision on further extending the odd-even rule would be taken later.

The odd-even scheme of the Delhi government is a traffic rationing measure under which vehicles with registration numbers ending with an odd digit will be allowed on roads on odd dates and those with an even digit on even dates.

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) on Sunday decided to invoke Stage IV of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in the entire National Capital Region (NCR) with immediate effect to prevent further deterioration of air quality. The Air Quality Commission said that Stage IV will be implemented in addition to the restrictions placed under Stage I to III.
