Attacks on Sikhs in Pakistan

Delhi Sikhs Protest Sealing Of Lahore Gurudwara In Pakistan

A large number of people from the Sikh community in New Delhi staged a protest on Tuesday over the act of sealing Gurudwara Shaheed Bhai Taru situated at Naulakha in Lahore in Pakistan.

Members of the main organizer group, Jag Aasra Guru Ott (JAGO) party along with several other angered Sikhs marched towards the Pakistan High Commission and submitted their memorandum to the officials.

Leading the protest at Teen Murti Chowk, Manjit Singh GK, President of Jag Aasra Guru Ott (JAGO) said, “The JAGO party and Sikhs of Delhi have come here to protest against the Pakistan government who have put the lock on the historical gurudwara of Shaheed Bhai Taru Singh. The land and property of Gurudwara have already been taken by the land mafia. The Pakistan government should remove that lock and hand over the keys to Sikh communities or the Pakistan Gurudwara Prabandhak committee.”

The debate regarding the existence of the Gurudwara in Naulakha, Lahore, has raged for a long time.

Previously the Sikh community were not allowed to observe the anniversary of Shaheed Bhai Taru Singh at his Samadhi under the pressure of a local hardline Muslim group who claimed ownership rights of the land of the Samadhi.

Once again, land sharks in Lahore attempted to seize the Gurudwara’s property, causing unrest between the local Sikh and Muslim communities.

It is ironic that on one hand, Pakistan tries to portray itself as a tolerant state by opening the Gurudwara at Kartarpur, while on the other, the ruling dispensation under the pressure of mafias is sealing several religious places of minorities, escalating the tension between the majority Muslim community and other religious groups.

As per the Nehru-Liaquat agreement of 1950, both the governments of India and Pakistan solemnly agreed to the safety and security of the minorities living in the respective countries, their places of worship, and other properties.

However, the minorities living in the Islamic Republic continue to suffer as Pakistan has completely failed to honour the decisions both sides had agreed upon. (ANI)

Nora Vs Jacqueline Case

Nora Sues Jacqueline Over ‘False Statement’ In Laundering Case

Actor-dancer Nora Fatehi has filed a defamation suit of Rs 200 crore against the Sri Lankan actor Jacqueline Fernandez.

In the lawsuit, the ‘Thank God’ actor has accused Fernandez of making ‘false statements with malicious intention’.

Earlier, Fatehi had left the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office in New Delhi on Friday after being questioned in Rs 200-crore money laundering case linked to conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar.

On September 15, Nora was questioned by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi Police for more than four hours along with Pinky Irani, who apparently introduced Nora and Jacqueline Fernandez to the jailed conman.

Notably, statements of Nora Fatehi were recorded under section 50 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002 on September 12, 2021, and October 14, 2021, wherein she stated that she got a booking for a charity event.

During the event, she was gifted a Gucci Bag and one shopping mode iPhone by Leena Paulose. (wife of Chandrashekhar)

According to ED, during the investigation, searches were conducted at various places linked to Sukesh Chandrashekar and his associates. During the search, 16 high-end vehicles were seized under section 17 PMLA and these cars were either in the name of the firms owned by Leena Paulose or third parties.

It further emerged that Sukesh knowingly created the structure for layering and transferring proceeds of crime and thus, actively participated in the process of money laundering. (ANI)

Jacqueline Laundering Case

Jacqueline Appears Before Delhi Court In Laundering Case

Actor Jacqueline Fernandez on Monday arrived at the Patiala House Court in the national capital in connection with the Rs 200 crores money laundering case involving conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar.

On November 30, the Delhi Police arrested Mumbai-based Pinky Irani who is said to be a close aide of Chandrashekhar, and introduced him to Bollywood actor Jacqueline Fernandez.

According to the Economic Offences Wing (EOW), the accused Pinky Irani used to portray him (Sukesh) to be a business tycoon, and the accused used to be instrumental in facilitating certain Bollywood personalities to contact with main accused Sukesh Chandrasekhar.

It is also alleged that accused Pinky Irani has been instrumental in disposing off the amount of money extorted from the complainant and other sources.

Earlier, Delhi Police also recorded the statement of Bollywood actor Jacqueline Fernandez in the court under Section 164 after she said she wanted to give some important information in the Rs 200 crore fraud case involving conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar.

The Delhi Police Economic Offence Wing (EOW) filed a charge sheet naming 14 accused including Conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar, his Wife Leena Maria Paul, and others in 2021. The Chargesheet was filed under various sections of IPC and provisions of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).

According to the EOW, Leena, Sukesh with others used Hawala routes, creating Shell companies to park the money earned from proceeds of crime.

Delhi Police’s EOW had registered an FIR against Chandrasekhar for allegedly duping the spouses of former promoters of Ranbaxy, Shivinder Singh, and Malvinder Singh, of Rs 200 crores besides ongoing investigations against him in several cases across the country.

According to the Prosecution, the EOW extended its investigation into the case related to extortion of over Rs 200 crore, by Rohini jail inmate Sukesh Chandrasekar for allegedly duping wives of former Religare promoters Malvinder and Shivinder Singh, who are currently in Tihar jail.

Investigations revealed that the accused Sukesh Chandrasekar had duped Shivinder’s wife Aditi Singh and Malvinder’s wife Japna Singh worth over several crores of rupees. The women claimed that they have paid crores of rupees to the conman to secure bail for their husbands and ensure their safety, posing as an officer from the Union Law Ministry.

Chandrasekhar and his associates allegedly took money from Aditi after posing as government officials and promising to get bail for her husband. As per reports, Chandrasekhar persuaded Aditi to transfer money by impersonating a central government official over a spoof call while he was lodged in Rohini jail and promised to manage bail for her husband.

Both Chandrasekhar and his actor wife Leena Maria Paul were arrested by the Delhi Police in September last year for their alleged role in the duping case. (ANI)

Swati Maliwal

Honest Punished, Thieves Are Enjoying: Swati Maliwal

Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Swati Maliwal, who is charged with corruption and criminal conspiracy, on Friday, said that honest people in the country have to prove their honesty while thieves are enjoying.

The DCW chief took to Twitter, “Those who work honestly have to prove their honesty, while thieves enjoy in this country. Handled lakhs of cases, saved hundreds of girls from trafficking, got liquor-drug mafia arrested, and stood with the poor. This is my only crime. As long as I am alive, I will keep fighting.”
https://twitter.com/SwatiJaiHind/status/1601144740283838465?s=20&t=Mxg1A6ogyi29P5H1YPxgAQ

Her reaction came after a special court on Thursday ordered the framing of corruption and criminal conspiracy charges against Swati Maliwal. The court had found prima facie sufficient material that the accused had abused their official position in allegedly appointing Aam Admi Party (AAP) workers to different posts in the commission.

Earlier, on Friday former Delhi Commission for Women chief Barkha Shukla pointed at the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) involvement in the appointment of members in the body while also alleging that there was no conduct of educational checks during their recruitment.

“It’s AAP’s fraud. It’s all happening under the Aam Aadmi Party’s watch. They do what they want. The level of education and social work experience of appointees weren’t checked before making a person a member. I complained in 2015, the result has come now,” she said.

Along with DCW Chairperson Swati Maliwal, the court also ordered to put the members of DCW Promila Gupta, Sarika Chaudhary, and Farheen Malick on trial.

According to the prosecution, all the four accused in the conspiracy were together involved in abusing their official position and obtaining pecuniary advantages for the party workers and acquaintances of Swati Maliwal as well as the ruling party namely AAP. (ANI)

PIL To Prohibit Fixing Of Images Of Hindu Deities On Walls

The Delhi High Court on Friday reserved an order on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking direction to the authorities to prohibit the affixation of images of deities on walls to prevent people from relieving themselves on them or spitting on the ‘sacred images or littering.

A Division Bench headed by Chief Justice of Delhi Satish Chander Sharma and also comprising Justice Subramonium reserved its order on the plea after noting down the submissions of the petitioner.
The plea stated that people were using pictures of deities in various places as a measure to stop open public urination. However, these measures are harming the religious sentiments of the people at large.

The petitioner Gaurang Gupta, a practicing advocate, stated that the images are ‘sacred’ to the followers of the religion and that public urination, spitting, and throwing junk is a menace to the public at large and such acts are a violation of the rights enshrined under Article 19(1)(a) and thus, are liable to be reasonably restricted.

Urination, spitting, and throwing junk at an image of God should be considered to desecrate the sanctity of the image of God, the plea stated, adding that it is in excess of Article 19(1 )(a) and can be curtailed as per Article 19(2) under the reasonable restriction of public order, decency or morality.

“The continuance of this malicious practice of using the pictures of God to prohibit public urination, spitting, and throwing junk is greatly violating Article 25 of the Constitution of India. Religion is a very significant aspect in the social fabric of India and the use of revered pictures for such a pm1Jose is hurting the sentiments of the public at large and this will have a large-scale negative impact on the society at large,” the plea read. Shraddha Father

Shraddha’s Father Accuses Maha Police Of Showing Laxity

Shraddha Walkar’s father Vikas Walkar, who appeared in the media for the first time since his daughter’s brutal murder, claimed on Friday that she would have been alive if the Maharashtra Police had helped him.

He alleged that the Vasai Police showed “laxity” in the investigation of the case, however, hailing the combined probe by the Delhi Police and the Vasai Police.
“The combined probe conducted by Delhi Police and Vasai police is going well. Still, Vasai Police, and Nalasopara Police showed laxity in the investigation which is unfortunate. Delhi Police assured us that we will get justice. My daughter was brutally murdered. I faced many problems because of the Vasai police, if they had helped me, my daughter would have been alive,” Vikas said while addressing a joint press conference with BJP leader Kirit Somaiya here.

He further sought the death penalty for Aaftab Poonawalla in the case and also demanded a probe against the family members and relatives of the accused.

“I expect a similar lesson for Aaftab Poonwala in the way he murdered my daughter. He should be hanged. A probe should be conducted against Aftab’s family members, relatives, and all others included in the incident,” he said.

Pointing out the drawbacks and misuse of some mobile applications (dating apps), he also sought “restrictions” on them.

“There should also be restrictions on some mobile apps. Children older than 18 yrs of age should be somewhat controlled and they should be given counseling. What happened to me shouldn’t happen to anyone else. I tried to talk with my daughter but she didn’t respond to me in the last two years. I was never told what was happening with my daughter,” he said.

Vikas claimed that he had a conversation with Shraddha in 2021 and Aaftab on September 26, however, he did not tell him about her whereabouts.

“The last time I had a conversation with Shraddha was in 2021. We talked about her whereabouts, she said that she was living in Bengaluru. I talked to Aaftab on September 26 when I asked him about my daughter, but he didn’t give an answer on it,” Vikas said.

He said that he was against the relationship between Shraddha and Aaftab and was unaware of the violence that she was subjected to.

“I was against the relationship of Shraddha Walker and Aaftab Poonawala. I was unaware of the domestic violence Shraddha was subjected to by Aaftab. I feel, his family members knew everything about what he was doing with her,” he said.

Blaming the dating apps, Vikas said that his daughter came in contact with Aaftab because of it.

“Aaftab pursued Shraddha to make up her mind to leave. It was because of dating apps that Shraddha came in contact with Aaftab,” he said.

Speaking to ANI, Shraddha’s father’s lawyer, Seema Kushwaha said that the dating apps should be monitored.

“Though people have the right to use dating apps, these dating apps should be monitored. There can be criminals and terrorists…I think names of Aaftab’s family members should be there in the charge sheet,” she said.

Earlier today, Saket Court in Delhi extended the judicial custody of Aaftab Amin Poonawala for 14 days said, officials.

SC Rejects Plea Seeking Details Of 2018 Collegium Meet

The Supreme Court on Friday rejected a plea seeking a copy of the agenda, a copy of the decisions, and a copy of the resolution of a 2018 Collegium meeting and clarified that only a resolution drawn and signed by all the Collegium members could be said to be the final decision.

A bench of justice MR Shah and CT Ravikumar rejected RTI activist Anjali Bhardwaj’s plea challenging the Delhi High Court order. The top court said that there was no substance in the plea challenging the Delhi High Court order and the same deserves to be dismissed.
SC clarified whatever is discussed in the Collegium meeting shall not be in the public domain and “only final decision required to be uploaded,”

SC also clarified that the consultation of December 12, 2018, was not concluded and was, therefore, adjourned.

The petitioner Anjali Bhardwaj, in the RTI application, had sought a copy of the agenda, a copy of the decisions, and a copy of the Resolution of the meeting of the Collegium of the Supreme Court held on December 12, 2018.

The court said that only after the final resolution drawn and signed by the Collegium, which is always after completing the due procedure and process of discussion, deliberation, and consultation, is the same required to be published on the Supreme Court website.

The court noted that no final decision was taken in the December 2018 Collegium meeting which was required to be drawn and signed by all members of the Collegium.

The court also said that the 2019 resolution is very clear which specifies that the process of consultation in the earlier meeting was not over and remained unconcluded.

The petitioner Anjali Bhardwaj, who was represented by advocate Prashant Bhushan and Ria Yadav, challenged the order dated July 27 2022 of the High Court of Delhi, which dismissed his plea for information under the Right to Information Act.

The appellant in the RTI Application had sought a copy of the agenda, a copy of the decisions, and a copy of the Resolution of the meeting of the Collegium of the Supreme Court held on December 12, 2018.

According to the petition, the resolution of the subsequent meeting affirms that there was indeed an agenda of the previous collegium meeting of 12.12.2018 and further that certain decisions were indeed taken and this was also affirmed through the public statements of Justice (Retd.) Madan Lokur and the statements made in the autobiography written by former Chief Justice of India, Ranjan Gogoi (who were both members of the collegium as of 12.12.2018). In such circumstances, it cannot be held that the information does not exist, the petitioner said. (ANI)

Manish Sisodia

Sisodia Accuses BJP Of Trying To Poach AAP Councillors

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Wednesday alleged that the AAP councillors have started receiving calls from the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP), alleging poaching attempt of newly-elected party councillors after the civic poll results.

“BJP’s game has started. Phone calls started coming to our newly elected corporators,” tweeted Manish Sisodia.

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia exuded confidence and said that none of the councillors will be “sold”.

“None of our councillors will be sold. We have told all the corporators that if they get a phone call or come to meet them, record them,” tweeted Sisodia.

This comes in the wake of AAP’s victory in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

The results of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi have suggested that people are more inclined towards having a double-engine government which binds the ruling party to fulfil their electoral promises.

The high-stakes battle for control over the Delhi Municipal Corporation has ended with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) winning 134 of the total 250 wards in the national capital’s civic body polls, uprooting 15-year rule by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

As the Delhi State Election Commission announced the final results today, AAP won 134 wards while BJP came second with 104 wards. Congress managed to get 9 wards while three wards were bagged by Independents.

The party workers gathered in front of the office and rejoiced, danced and chanted slogans praising party chief Arvind Kejriwal.

The polls for 250 wards in the national capital were held on December 4 with about 50 per cent voter turnout and a total of 1,349 candidates in the fray. However, the low voter turnout did not prove to be an indicator of pro-incumbency.

This was the first civic election after the fresh delimitation exercise. There were 272 wards in Delhi and three corporations – NDMC, SDMC, and EDMC in Delhi from 2012-2022 that later reunified into an MCD that had formally come into existence on May 22. (ANI)
