Gujarat Polls: Voter Turnout At 34.74% Till 1 pm

The voter turnout in the second phase of the Gujarat Assembly polls was recorded at 34.74 percent till 1 pm on Monday.

The voting started at 8 am today. The state recorded a voter turnout of 19.17 percent till 11 am.
According to the latest data by the Election Commission, Sabarkantha recorded the highest turnout with 39.73 percent polling.

The lowest turnout was seen in Mahisagar (29.72 pc). Gandhinagar, where the top leaders of the BJP including PM Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel cast their votes, witnessed 36.49 percent voting.

Polling for the second and final phase of the Gujarat Assembly Elections for 93 Assembly constituencies across 14 districts of north and central Gujarat began at 8 am amid tight security arrangements on Monday.

As many as 833 candidates from 61 parties are in the fray in the second phase of the Gujarat elections whose fate will be decided by over 2.51 crore electorates.

The Election Commission has established 26,409 polling booths and nearly 36,000 Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be used for the purpose. Around 29,000 presiding officers and over 84,000 polling officers have been deployed in 14 districts to facilitate the polls.

According to Gujarat’s Chief Electoral Officer P Bharathi, of the total 26,409 polling stations, 93 are model polling booths, 93 are eco-friendly booths, another 93 are managed by Divyang, and 14 are managed by youth. Webcasting will be done in 13,319 polling booths in the second phase.

“Total of 2,51,58,730 voters will vote, of which, 1,29,26,501 are men, 1,22,31,335 are women and 894 are from the third gender,” Bharathi said.

The 93 poll-bound seats in the second phase are spread across Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Mehsana, Patan, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Aravali, Mahisagar, Panchmahal, Dahod, Vadodara, Anand, Kheda and Chhota Udaipur districts.

During the first phase of polling on December 1, Gujarat saw an overall turnout of 63.14 percent. The voting began at 8 am in 89 constituencies spread across 19 districts of Kutch, Saurashtra, and South Gujarat regions. The first phase of voting for 89 seats in Kutch, Saurashtra, and South Gujarat ended on December 1, with an overall turnout of 63.31 percent.

Gujarat Polls: 2.51 Cr Voters To Decide Fate Of 833 Candidates On Mon

After the high-voltage campaigning, the countdown has begun for the high-stakes political battle to conclude in Gujarat, with the final phase of polling for the ongoing Assembly elections to be held on Monday.

Polling in the second and final phase will be conducted for 93 Assembly constituencies across 14 districts of north and central Gujarat. As many as 833 candidates from 61 parties are in the fray in the second phase of the Gujarat elections whose fate will be decided by over 2.51 crore electorates.

Among the key constituencies in the final phase are Ghatlodia, which will determine the poll fate of Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel; Viramgam where Patidar leader Hardik Patel will contest as a BJP candidate, and Gandhinagar South where the saffron party has fielded Alpesh Thakor.

The Leader of the Opposition, Congress’ Sukhram Rathava will contest from Chhota Udaipur, while Lakhabhai Bharwad, Jignesh Mevani, and Amee Yajnik are some other prominent Congress names from Viramgam, Vadgam, and Ghatlodia seats.

From the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Bharat Vakhala from Devgadhbaria, Bheema Chaudhary from Deodar, Dolat Patel from Gandhinagar South, Kunwarji Thakor from Viramgam and Vijay Patel from Ghatlodia will test their electoral fortunes in the second and final phase on Monday.

The high-octane campaigning for the second phase of the Gujarat Assembly elections came to an end on Saturday evening, which saw big shots across parties trying to woo voters.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held his last election rally in his native state, at Ahmedabad, on Friday, which was followed by roadshows, over consecutive days on December 1 and 2.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, too, concluded his campaigning for the final phase on Friday, with three public rallies in Mehsana, two public meetings in Ahmedabad, and a roadshow in Vadodara.

Also, on the last day of the campaign for the second phase, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath addressed poll rallies in Dholka, Mahudha, and Khambhat to garner support for BJP candidates, while Union Minister Parshottam Rupala campaigned at Banaskantha, Chhota Udaipur and Anand. His Union Cabinet colleague Smriti Irani also held two roadshows in the state.

From the Congress, Shaktisinh Gohil held rallies at Deodar, Tharad, and Modasa on the last day, while cricketer-turned-politician and ex-Congress MP Mohd. Azharuddin held three road shows at Vejalpur, Jamalpur Khadia and Dariyapur in Ahmedabad.

Among AAP leaders who campaigned on the last day were Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, who held four roadshows in Garbada, Dahod, Zalod, and Fatehpura.

The party’s CM face for Gujarat, Isudan Gadhvi, also held roadshows at Sidhpur, Kankrej, Dhanera, and Vav on the last day.

Among prominent names who will cast their votes in the final phase in Gujarat are PM Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, Isudan Gadhvi, Gujarat Congress president Jagdish Thakor and cricketers Irfan Pathan, Hardik Pandya, and Krunal Pandya.

The Royal family of Vadodara, Congress leader, MP Shaktisinh Gohil, and former chief minister Shankersinh Vaghela will also cast their votes on Monday.

The first phase of voting for 89 seats in Kutch, Saurashtra, and South Gujarat ended on December 1, with an overall turnout of 63.31 percent.

MCD Polls: 9% Of Voters’ Turnout Till 10:30 Am

The cold Delhi winter affects the voting trends in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections as only around 9 per cent of voters’ turnout was recorded till 10:30 am on Sunday, as per the State Election Commission.

The voting for civic body polls is underway amid tight security across the national capital.
The voting for 250 wards began at 8 am and will conclude at 5:30 pm.

Over 1.45 crore people are eligible to vote in civic polls in which 1,349 candidates are in the fray, setting the stage for the high-stakes civic polls largely seen as a three-way contest between the BJP, the AAP and the Congress.

According to data shared by the State Election Commission officials, the total number of voters in Delhi is 1,45,05,358 — 78,93,418 males, 66,10,879 females and 1,061 transgender persons. There are 250 wards in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

68 Pink booths have been set up with facilities including all-female staff at the polling station, a feeding room for lactating mothers, a creche facility for small kids accompanying voters, swings for kids, selfie booth.

The Commission said it has made elaborate arrangements for “safe, secure and pleasant” voting experience. These measures are required to keep the electoral field free and to ensure that a level playing field is afforded to all political parties and candidates.

Both the AAP and the BJP have exuded confidence that they will emerge victorious in the polls while the Congress is trying to regain lost turf.

The BJP, which has governed the civic body in Delhi since 2007, is looking to maintain its winning streak while the Aam Aadmi Party, which has a majority in the Assembly, is looking to make inroads in the first municipal election in the capital after the delimitation of wards.

This is the first civic election after the fresh delimitation exercise. There were 272 wards in Delhi and three corporations- NDMC, SDMC, and EDMC in Delhi from 2012-2022 that later reunified into an MCD that had formally come into existence on May 22. (ANI)

Delhiites Cast Vote For MCD 2022; Cleanliness, Facilities Among Major Concerns

As the voting for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) in the 250 wards of the national capital began on Sunday morning, Delhiites converged to their respective polling booths to cast their vote.

At the polling booth in Matiala village, the first-time voter Sonam said that she has considered issues of roads, women’s safety, and water.

“Roads, women’s safety, and water are the issues I have considered for voting. People should come out and vote. They should understand their responsibility,” Sonam said.

Another first-time voter reiterated a candidate’s promise to resolve the issue of monkey menace in the constituency. He said besides cleanliness, electricity, and water, the monkey menace is another issue we face daily.

The voting for 250 wards began at 8 am and will conclude at 5:30 pm today.

Casting his vote, a seventy-six-year-old man said, “We have come to vote for our peace of mind by resolving important issues such as water, better sewage system, good roads, and cleanliness,” a seventy-six-year-old man said.

Meanwhile, Asha Gupta said that they don’t want freebies but rather want to have basic facilities.

“We want facilities and advancement instead of getting things for free. There should be an advancement in every facility we get be it cleanliness, security, road safety, and water supply,” Asha Gupta said.

“Free-but dirty water is of no use and similarly if you promise to provide free electricity but there are prolonged power cuts, then this too is of no use,” she added.

Harish Bharti, 81, said that their main concern is inflation and unemployment because of which he has voted.

“The cleanliness is also a major issue and concern because of which these votes were a necessity,” he added.

The counting of votes will be done on December 7.

The State Election Commission said a large workforce of election functionaries and security agencies have put humungous efforts to make necessary preparations for conducting elections at 13,638 polling stations spread across Delhi. Further, 68 Model Polling Stations and 68 Pink Polling Stations have been established for the quality experience of the voters. Adequate arrangements for the deployment of forces have been made.

450 Voters Deleted As They Support BJP: Manoj Tiwari

The names of 450 voters in Subash Mohalla ward in the national capital have been deleted from the voters’ list because they support BJP, claimed BJP MP Manoj Tiwari on Sunday and demanded cancellation and re-election of the polls in the ward.

He was speaking to media persons at the Yamuna Vihar polling booth, Subhash Mohalla ward.
The BJP MP further alleged that this is a big conspiracy by the Delhi government

“In the Subash Mohalla ward, the names of 450 voters have been deleted from the voters’ list because they support BJP. This is a big conspiracy by the Delhi government. I will complain against this and appeal for cancellation of this polls and re-election,” said Tiwari.

Earlier, Delhi Congress president Anil Chaudhary claimed that he found his name missing from the voters’ list when he arrived at the polling booth to cast his vote for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections.

Chaudhary claimed that his name is neither on the voters’ list nor in the deleted list.

“My name is neither in the voter list nor in the deleted list. My wife has voted. Officials are checking it,” said the Delhi Congress president who arrived at a polling booth in Dallupura to cast his vote.

Police Patrolling In Daryaganj, Jama Masjid Ahead Of MCD Polls

Delhi Police on Saturday, conducted patrolling in the areas of Daryaganj and Jama Masjid ahead of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections tomorrow.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of Central Delhi, Shweta Chauhan told ANI that out of the 200 polling premises and 700 polling booths, 54 are critically sensitive.

“We conducted foot patrolling to ensure that MCD elections are conducted in a free and fair manner tomorrow. There’re over 200 polling premises and around 700 polling booths of which 54 are critically sensitive, in the Central zone,” she said.

Earlier today, the election officials informed that sixty-eight model polling stations and an equal number of pink polling stations have been designated in New Delhi in view of the MCD elections.

The officials said that the special polling stations aim to provide unique arrangements for women, elderlies, and persons with disabilities, among other people to encourage voters’ participation in the 250-wards MCD polls.

Also, the Delhi government schools have been closed today in view of preparations for the December 4 MCD elections, the Directorate of Education, School Branch informed in an official notification on Friday.

Cong Attacked Modi, Voters Gave Befitting Reply: Shah

Reacting to Congress’ “Ravan” remark against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday said that the people of Gujarat have always given a reply to Congress through the ballot box whenever they have used inappropriate words against PM Modi.

While holding a roadshow in Sanand in Ahmedabad, the Home Minister told ANI, “Whenever Congress has used inappropriate words against PM Modi, then the people of Gujarat have given a reply through the ballot box. This time also the people of the state will give a reply.”
The Home Minister’s roadshow is being held when polling for the first phase in 89 of the 182 constituencies is underway in the state.

Scores of people joined the Home Minister in the roadshow.

Shah said that when Narendra Modi was Chief Minister of the State, he had solved several basic problems of the people.

“Under the tenure of Chief Minister Narendra Modi, various problems were solved in Gujarat. Gujarat used to face the problem of water scarcity, but a permanent solution was found by Narendra Modi by building check damns, bringing ‘Naramada Yojna’ and ‘Sujalam Sufalam Yojana. Electricity is being supplied for 24 hours and health services have been upgraded across the State. The enrollment and dropout issue in schools was solved. Efforts made by Narendra Modi in solving these basic problems of Gujarat is deeply appreciated by the people of Gujarat,” Shah told ANI

He said that the anti-radical cell is a proactive step adding that “If we control radicalisation, then terrorism and riots will be controlled”.

Notably, during a poll campaigning for the Party, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge at a rally in the Behrampura area of Ahmedabad described PM Modi as Ravana, wherein he said, “In all these campaigns, he (Modi) only talks about himself. ‘Don’t look at anyone else, just look at Modi and vote’… how many times do we have to see your face? How many forms do you have? Do you have 100 heads like Ravan?”

According to the Election Commission, there are 5,74,560 voters who are between 18 to 19 years of age while 4,945 voters are above 99 years of age. There are 163 NRI voters, of which 125 are men and 38 are women.

There are 14,382 voting centres, out of which 3,311 are in the urban areas and 11,071 in the rural areas.

Notably, the second phase of the Gujarat Assembly election is on December 5.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also scheduled to hold a three-hour-long mega roadshow spanning 16 Assembly constituencies for the second phase of the Assembly election.

According to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), this mega show will cover more than 50 km starting from the Naroda Gam and ending at Gandhinagar South constituency.

This roadshow by the Prime Minister is expected to pass through 16 assembly constituencies that go into polls in the second phase of the Gujarat election on December 5. (ANI)

Gujarat Polls: 19.13% Voter Turnout Till 11 am

Gujarat in its first phase of polling on Thursday recorded around 19.13 percent voter turnout till 11 am.

The polling was brisk to moderate in different places in the state.
As per the Election Commission of India (ECI), Tapi recorded the highest voter turnout at 26.47 percent while Devbhumi Dwaraka recorded the lowest voter turnout at 15.86 percent.

The voter turnout in Amreli was 19 percent, Bharuch recorded 17.57 percent, Bhavnagar was 18.84 percent, Botad at 18.50 percent, Dangs at 24.99 percent, Gir Somnath at 20.75 percent, Jamnagar was at 17.85 percent, Junagadh at 18.85 percent, Kachchh was at 17.62 percent and Morbi at 22.27 percent.

Meanwhile, the voter turnout at Narmada was 23.73 percent, Navsari was at 21.79 percent, Porbandar was at 16.49 percent, Rajkot was at 18.98 percent, Surat was at 17.92 percent, Surendranagar was at 20.67 percent and Valsad was at 19.57 percent.

The polling is underway in 89 constituencies spread across 19 districts of Kutch, Saurashtra, and South Gujarat.

A total of 2,39,76,670 voters who will cast their votes by 5 pm today will decide the fate of 788 candidates who are in the fray for the first phase.

Out of the total number of electorates, 1,24,33,362 are males, 1,1,5,42,811 females and 497 are from the third gender. Over 4 lakh PWD voters are eligible to cast their votes. Nearly 9.8 lakh senior citizen voters (80+) and nearly 10,000 voters who are 100 and above are eligible to vote.

Cong Delegation Meets EC, Seeks Ban On Opinion Polls

A Congress party delegation on Wednesday met the Election Commission seeking a ban on the opinion polls before the elections.

Congress leader Rajeev Shukla, who was a part of the delegation, said that the opinion polls try to predict the results of the elections in a biased way.
He said that the party has also asked for proper security of ballot papers, especially in Gujarat.

Congress also alleged that when Prime Minister Narendra Modi or any other big BJP leader comes for election campaigning in a state, the opposition leaders aren’t allowed to enter with their helicopters.

Polling for 68 assembly seats in Himachal Pradesh was held on November 12, with the state recording a 75.6 percent turnout, breaking the 2017 record, whose results are scheduled to be declared on December 8

Meanwhile, the Assembly elections in Gujarat are scheduled to be held in two phases on December 1 and December 5, whose results will be declared on December 8, coinciding with that of the Himachal Assembly polls. (ANI)

Priyanka To Address 8 Rallies, Roadshows In Himachal

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will be addressing eight rallies and roadshows in poll-bound Himachal Pradesh.

The Congress leader will be in Mandi and Kullu districts on October 31.
She will also visit Kangra and Chamba on November 3, and Hamirpur and Una on November 7.

On November 10, the Congress General Secretary will hold rallies and roadshows in Shimla and Sirmaur.

Earlier on October 14, Priyanka Gandhi kick-started the election campaign in Himachal Pradesh for the state assembly polls. She addressed ‘Parivartan Pratigya Rally’.

During her address, Vadra said that if the party is voted to power in the forthcoming Himachal Pradesh assembly elections, a decision will be taken on restoring the old pension scheme in the first meeting of the cabinet.

The Congress leader said a decision will also be taken at the cabinet meeting to provide one lakh government jobs.

She targeted the BJP government in the state and alleged that it has done nothing for youth, employees, and women.

“You should think about your future. BJP doesn’t have money for pensions but they can waive off loans of their big businessmen. They have nothing for youth, employees, and women. Government posts are lying vacant for the last five years,” Priyanka Gandhi said.

“I am giving you a guarantee today that after forming the government here, two major decisions will be taken in the first cabinet meeting. First is to give one lakh government jobs and the second is to implement the old pension scheme (OPS),” she added.

The Congress is in the process of deciding its candidates for the assembly polls. The party is without its tall leader Virbhadra Singh in this election. He passed away last year.

Himachal has been witnessing a bipolar contest between Congress and the BJP but Aam Aadmi Party is also trying to make its presence felt.

Election Commission announced the schedule for the assembly election in Himachal Pradesh on Friday.

The state will go to the polls on November 12 and the counting of votes will be held on December 8.

In the previous election, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured 44 seats while Congress won 21 seats. (ANI)
