Rahul Gandhi

Rahul to Modi: If This is Amrit Kaal, Why Are Jobs Vanishing?

Former Congress MP Rahul Gandhi took a swipe at the central government on Sunday asking if this is the ‘Amrit Kaal’ as portrayed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, why are jobs decreasing in India.

“If this is really ‘Amrit Kaal’ then why are jobs disappearing like this? The country is grappling with record unemployment under this government. The hopes of lakhs of youth are being crushed for the benefit of a few capitalist friends,” a rough translation of Rahul Gandhi’s tweet in English read.

The former Congress MP highlighted in his tweet that the central government is neglecting the Public Sector units (PSUs). He supported his argument with the help of extensive data on the loss of employment in PSUs.

“PSUs used to be the pride of India and used to be the dream choice of employment for every youth. But, today these are not the priority of the government. Employment in PSUs has come down from 16.9 lakh in 2014 to only 14.6 lakh in 2022. Do jobs decrease in a progressive country?” he wrote.

Lambasting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, he said that those who promised to provide 2 crore jobs every year, eliminated more than 2 lakh jobs.

Attacking the government on increasing contract recruitment in the PSUs and thereby taking away the right to reservation, Rahul wondered whether it is a ‘conspiracy’ to privatize the companies.

“Is increasing contract employees not a way to take away the constitutional right of reservation? Is this a conspiracy to privatize these companies? Debt waiver for industrialists, and clearing government jobs from PSUs! What kind of immortality is this?” he said.

Rahul said that the country is grappling with record unemployment and the hopes of lakhs of youth are being crushed for the benefit of a few capitalist friends.

“If the PSUs of India get the right environment and support from the government, they are capable of increasing both the economy and employment,” Rahul suggested adding that the PSUs are the property of the country and the countrymen and hence they have to be ‘promoted’.

On March 18, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the people of this generation did not get an opportunity to sacrifice their lives during the freedom struggle, but now they have a chance to work for a strong, developed and inclusive India in this “Amrit Kaal”.

PM Modi was speaking at the inauguration of the year-long celebrations of the centenary year of the Malayalam daily Mathrubhumi via video-conferencing. (ANI)

Eric Garcetti US Ambassador To India

Biden Re-Nominates Eric Garcetti As US Ambassador To India

United States President Joe Biden on Tuesday renominated Eric Garcetti, the former Mayor of Los Angeles, as an ambassador to India, the White House said after sending the nomination to the Senate.

In the statement, the White House said, “Eric M Garcetti, of California, to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of India.”
Earlier, in December, the White House updated Mayor Garcetti’s nomination as ambassador to India update and said that they hoped that the full senate would confirm.

For more than a year, Garcetti’s nomination to be US ambassador to India – announced in July 2021 – is still in limbo. His nomination has been held up for months because of concerns among senators on both sides about allegations that he ignored alleged sexual harassment and bullying by one of his former senior political aides. Garcetti has repeatedly denied that he ignored those allegations, according to CNN.

Finally, in January last year, Garcetti’s nomination was announced.

In November, Pierre reaffirmed the Biden administration’s commitment to getting through the nomination of Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti as US ambassador to India.

Answering a question whether the White House will push the US Senate to finally get a vote on Garcetti’s nomination, Jean-Pierre said, “Absolutely. India is a very important relationship that we have. You — you saw the President greet and meet very briefly with Prime Minister Modi just last week when he was — in Bali. It’s an important relationship that — that we truly respect.”

“As for Mayor Garcetti, we are committed to getting him through the process. We are continuing — to talk to the Senate about making that happen. That is a priority of ours. And I just don’t have anything further to share on any strategy or anything else moving forward on that,” the White House Press Secretary added.

The United States continues to seek the expeditious confirmation of the Los Angeles Mayor, as the ambassador to India, following a long delay in the confirmation of his nomination.

Last year, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee confirmed the nomination of Garcetti to be the US Ambassador to India. However, the nomination needed to be confirmed by a majority of the US Senate.

Garcetti’s nomination came under a shadow after a Senate report released suggested that Garcetti had ignored a pattern of sexual harassment allegedly carried out by one of his top aides. (ANI)

India Economy In 2022 Modi

India Has Become 5th Largest Economy In 2022: Modi In Mann Ki Baat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday addressed the last Mann Ki Baat of the year 2022 and said that this year, the country had become the world’s fifth-largest economy.

“The year 2022 was wonderful, India completed 75 years of Independence while ‘Amrit Kaal’ began. India progressed rapidly and became the world’s fifth-largest economy, and achieved the unbelievable record of 220 crore vaccines and crossed the USD 400 billion mark in exports,” PM Modi said in the 96th edition of Mann Ki Baat, a monthly radio programme of the Prime Minister.
He also talked about the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative of the government and lauded the launch of INS Vikrant.

The commissioning of India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier is a momentous occasion during the ‘Amritkaal’ of India’s 75 years of independence and signifies the country’s confidence and prowess.

This indigenous aircraft carrier is proof of the country’s technical acumen and engineering skills. This demonstration of India’s self-sufficiency to produce an aircraft carrier warship will reinforce the country’s defence indigenisation programmes and the ‘Make in India’ campaign.

INS Vikrant, built at a cost of around Rs 20,000 crore, successfully completed its fourth and final phase of sea trials last month. With the construction of ‘Vikrant’, India has joined a select group of nations having the niche capability to indigenously design and build an aircraft carrier.

The ship has over 2,300 compartments, designed for a crew of around 1,700 people, including specialised cabins to accommodate women officers.

INS Vikrant has a top speed of around 28 knots and a cruising speed of 18 knots with an endurance of about 7,500 nautical miles. The aircraft carrier is 262 metres long, and 62 metres wide and it has a height of 59 metres. Its keel was laid in 2009.

Further in the address, he also underscored the country’s responsibility for chairing the G20 summit this year.

“This year, India has also got the prestigious responsibility of chairing the G20 group. I had also discussed this in detail last time,” he said.

G20 is the premier forum for international economic cooperation representing around 85 per cent of the global GDP, over 75 per cent of the worldwide trade, and about two-thirds of the world population.

On December 1, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India’s agenda for the G20 will be inclusive, ambitious, and action-oriented. In his blog post, PM Modi said India will work to promote a universal sense of oneness and its priorities will be shaped not only in consultation with G20 partners but also with the Global South.

He underlined that the great challenges of today like climate change, terrorism, and pandemics, cannot be solved by fighting each other but by acting together. “India’s G20 agenda will be inclusive, ambitious, action-oriented, and decisive,” he wrote.

Citing the theme – ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’, PM Modi said India’s G20 Presidency will work to promote this universal sense of one-ness. “This is not just a slogan. It takes into account recent changes in human circumstances, which we have collectively failed to appreciate,” he said.

Writing for the think tank South-South Research Initiative (SSRI), Farjana Sharmin noted India finally got the opportunity to execute its global vision and grand strategy, and secondly, the South Asian region is going to get benefits through India’s leadership in G-20.

PM Modi also extended his greetings on the occasion of Christmas.

He said: “Today is the day to remember the teachings of Jesus Christ. The festival of Christmas is being celebrated with great fervour all across the world. I extend my heartful greetings to everyone.”

On December 13, PM Modi invited people to share their inputs for this episode of Mann ki Baat and urged them to write on the NaMo App, and MyGov app or record their messages on 1800-11-7800.

Sharing MyGov’s invitation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “2022’s last #MannKiBaat will take place on the 25th of this month. I am eager to receive your input on the programme. I urge you to write on the NaMo App, MyGov or record your message on 1800-11-7800.” (ANI)

Gujarat Victory CR Paatil

Credit For Gujarat Victory Goes To State Unit, CR Paatil: Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday credited Bharatiya Janata Party’s victory in the recent Gujarat assembly polls to the party’s state unit and its president CR Paatil.

After the BJP Parliamentary party meeting held this morning, BJP Gujarat president Paatil told ANI, “I am very happy that the Prime Minister give credit to the state unit and every party worker who has worked very hard for the election.”

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi spoke to media persons after today’s meeting held at Parliament Library.

“Prime Minister addressed the meeting, he said the credit for victory in the Gujarat polls should be given to Gujarat state unit and its president CR Patil. Also, he extended congratulations to JP Nadda and BJP workers for the victory. He said it is an example of a party’s organizational strength and how a party can achieve such results. The results achieved on the basis of work done in Gujarat.”

BJP swept the Gujarat Assembly election winning a whopping 156 seats in the 182-member Assembly, which is the highest number of seats any party has won after the formation of the state in the year 1960.

The party’s seventh consecutive Assembly poll win in Gujarat is its biggest since the state was founded in the year 1960.

BJP leader Bhupendra Patel on December 12 took oath as the 18th Chief Minister of Gujarat. The oath was administered by Governor Acharya Devvrat at the helipad ground inside the new secretariat complex in Gandhinagar.

The opposition Congress could manage only 17 seats in the recently held elections while Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party had to be content with just 5 seats. Three seats went to Independent candidates while the Samajwadi Party (SP) won a lone seat in the state.

The BJP, which has won its seventh straight election in Gujarat, not only improved its own best record of 127 seats in 2002– the first election with Narendra Modi as Chief Minister — but the Congress’ tally of 149 seats in 1985. (ANI)

4th Industrial Revolution Modi

Cannot Miss 4th Industrial Revolution: Modi

India cannot afford to miss the fourth industrial revolution, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, while stressing that such “repeated opportunities” would not come again.

Addressing a gathering after launching developmental projects in Maharashtra, PM Modi said India had already missed out on making the most out of the industrial revolutions in the past.
“When the first industrial revolution came, India could not take benefit from it. We lagged behind in the second and third industrial revolutions, but today when it’s time for the fourth industrial revolution, India cannot miss it. A long-term vision is pivotal for stable growth and development. India cannot miss the fourth industrial revolution, opportunity won’t come again,” PM Modi said.

Mentioning the need for permanent solutions to problems, the Prime Minister stated that the country cannot move ahead with shortcuts and highlighted that the “base of permanent development is infrastructure”.

“No country can run with shortcuts. A long-term vision is necessary for permanent development and solution. The base of permanent development is infrastructure. South Korea was a poor country once, but it changed its fate through infrastructure. Today the Gulf countries are so progressed also because they have also modernized their infrastructure and future-ready in the last 3-4 decades,” he said.

The Prime Minister also mentioned Singapore’s infrastructure and said that the country made investments in infrastructure and made the right economic policies, and consequently it has become a “big center of the economy” for the world.

“A few decades ago, Singapore was also a normal island country. Singapore invested in infrastructure and made the right economic policies and today it has become a big center of the economy of world. These countries would not have been able to reach the height which they have achieved now if they had followed shortcut politics and looted the taxpayers money,” he said.

“But India has got this opportunity. In the earlier governments, the tax-payers who paid taxes, either it was used for corruption by the earlier governments or for strengthening the vote bank,” PM added. (ANI)
