Turkey, Syria Earthquake: Modi Hails NDRF, Dog Squad Members

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday heaped praise on the rescue professionals of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the dog squad members saying that they showed amazing strength and India was one of the first responders when the recent deadly earthquake hit Turkey and Syria.

PM Modi was interacting with the Indian rescue professionals of NDRF and other organizations involved in ‘Operation Dost’ in Turkey.
“Our dog squad members showed amazing strength. The country is proud of you. Our culture has taught us ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’. We consider the whole world as one family. When a member of the family is in trouble, it is India’s duty to help it. India was one of the first responders when the earthquake hit Turkey and Syria,” said PM Modi.

Lauding the quick response of the NDRF team during the earthquake he said that it is a reflection of the preparedness of the rescue and relief teams.

“India’s quick response during the earthquake has attracted the attention of the whole world. It is a reflection of the preparedness of our rescue and relief teams,” he said.

The Prime Minister further asserted that no matter which country, if it is about humanity, then India keeps human interest paramount.

“The whole world saw how you reached there immediately. It shows your preparedness and your training skills. The way our NDRF personnel have worked for 10 days is worth praising,” said PM Modi.

Highlighting the support provided to countries during the Covid surge he said that India is a true example of being self-sufficient and selfless.

“We have helped citizens of other nations during Covid. If an individual is able to help oneself, they can be called self-sufficient, but when an individual helps others, they are considered selfless. The same is true for nations. India is a true example of being self-sufficient and selfless,” said PM Modi.

He asserted that it is India that has helped several needy countries of the world.

“Necessary medicines and vaccines were delivered and that is why today there is goodwill for India in the world,” the PM said.

“Wherever we reach with our Tiranga, there is an assurance, since the Indian teams have arrived, the situation will get better,” he added.

Recalling the 2001 earthquake in Gujarat he said that he had then worked as a volunteer and seen the difficulties faced in rescuing people.

“We all have seen those pictures where a mother gives you a blessing by kissing on the forehead. When there was an earthquake in Gujarat in 2001, I worked as a volunteer, and I have seen the difficulties faced in rescuing people,” he said.

He further thanked the entire team for keeping the reputation of the country shining bright in such a difficult situation.

“Whatever you have done has brought glory to the country and if you institutionalise what you have learnt we can create a trust for the coming future,” he said. (ANI)

Assam Police Registers Case Against Pawan Khera

Congress Pawan Khera Mocks’ PM’s Name

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday hit out at Congress leader Pawan Khera for “mocking” the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and that of his father in relation to the opposition party’s allegations on the Adani issue.

Addressing a press conference on February 17, Khera attacked the government over the Hindenburg-Adani row.
Khera said when a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) could be set up by former Prime Ministers PV Narasimha Rao and Atal Bihari Vajpayee, “what is the problem of Narendra Gautamdas, sorry….Narendra Damodardas Modi”.

He is seen in the video asking if the PM’s name has “Gautamdas” or Damodardas and is told the correct name.

“Name is Damodardas but deeds are of Gautamdas,” Khera said. With a furore over his remarks, Khera later said in a tweet that he got confused.

“I genuinely got confused whether it is Damodardas or Gautam Das…,” Khera had said in his tweet on February 17.

BJP leader Amit Malviya hit out at Khera on Monday and said in a tweet that Congress has repeatedly targeted PM Modi for his humble origins and now they haven’t even spared his dead father.

“The Congress has repeatedly targeted PM Modi for his humble origins and now they haven’t even spared his dead father, who had nothing to do with politics… Congress’s deep seated sense of entitlement and disdain for a self made man doesn’t sit well with an aspirational India,” said Malviya, in-charge of BJP’s National Information & Technology Department.

Congress has been attacking the government daily over Hindenburg-Adani row. Congress and some other opposition parties have been pressing for a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe into the Hindenburg-Adani row. The party has accused the government of “running away from the demand”.

The US-based short-seller Hindenburg Research, in its report on January 24, raised concerns about shares of Adani group companies having a possibility of declining from their current levels owing to high valuations, “brazen stock manipulation” and “accounting fraud” among others.

The Adani Group had attacked Hindenburg as “an unethical short seller” and stated that the report by the New York-based entity was “nothing but a lie”.

Adani Group on January 29, in a long 413-page report, said the recent report by Hindenburg Research was not an attack on any specific company but a “calculated attack” on India, its growth story, and ambitions.

Home Minister Amit Shah had earlier said that BJP has nothing “to hide or be afraid of ” in the Hindenburg-Adani row. (ANI)

Pakistan Imran Khan

Imran Likely To Be Arrested In Foreign Funding Case Today

Former Pakistan Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Imran Khan is likely to be arrested anytime on Monday in a prohibited foreign funding case.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has decided to arrest PTI chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan in a prohibited funding case, ARY News reported, citing sources.
The sources further said that Imran Khan will be arrested by the FIA with the help of Lahore police.

Furthermore, a four-member team has been formed for the arrest, while a summary has been forwarded to the DG FIA for final approval, reported ARY News.

On February 2, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) dismissed a petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) against the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) ruling in prohibited funding case.

It is pertinent to note here that the Investigation Agency had registered a case against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief and 10 others over accusations of receiving foreign funding. The case had been registered by the FIA Corporate Banking Circle.

The case’s First Information Report (FIR) stated that the accused including the former premier violated Foreign Exchange Act and all of the nominated persons were beneficiaries of the private bank account, reported ARY News.

Meanwhile, Khan has been given time till 5 pm today to appear before the Lahore High Court in a case pertaining to a protest outside the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh instructed the former prime minister to appear in court in person while hearing his protective bail petition.

On February 15, an Islamabad anti-terrorism court — on grounds of non-appearance — had rejected Imran’s request for an extension in his interim bail in a case pertaining to violent protests outside the ECP after it disqualified him in the Toshakhana case, reported Dawn.

The PTI chief has been convalescing in his Zaman Park residence in Lahore ever since he was wounded in an assassination attempt during a pitstop his caravan made in Wazirabad while they were marching on Islamabad.

Subsequently, the PTI chief approached the LHC for interim protective bail.

At the previous hearing, Justice Sheikh had warned of issuing a contempt notice to Imran pointing out that there was a difference in the PTI chief’s signatures on the affidavit — attached with the affidavit — and the power of attorney. The court also instructed him to appear in the court in person by 2 pm on February 20.

The court had also advised Punjab Inspector General Dr Usman Anwar to meet the PTI chief’s legal team and decide on security matters, reported ARY News.

Ahead of today’s hearing, a large contingent of police personnel was deployed at the main gate of the LHC.

Imran’s legal team also arrived at the court to review the security arrangements. Meanwhile, PTI supporters have started gathering outside LHC, reported Dawn.

A large number of PTI workers started to reach Zaman Park, the sources said and added that a special security squad will leave with Imran Khan on the expected court appearance, later in the day today.

Several members of the local leadership of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) were booked in a case over alleged vandalism during the protests in Islamabad after ECP disqualified the former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief in Toshakhana reference.

Cases were also registered against PTI leaders including Senator Faisal Javed, Aamir Kayani, Wasiq Qayyum Abbasi, Raja Rashid Hafeez, Umer Tanveer Butt, Rashid Naeem Abbasi and Raja Majid.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) disqualified former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan in the Toshakhana reference under Article 63(1)(p). (ANI)

Water Cannons Used To Disperse Youth League’s Protestors In Kannur

Water Cannons Used To Disperse Youth League’s Protestors In Kannur

Police used water cannons to disperse Youth League workers marching towards the Collectorate office here against tax evasion in the state budget presented by the Kerala government.

As soon as the march arrived in front of the Kannur Collectorate, the Youth League’s Kannur District Committee activists climbed the barricade, prompting the police to fire water cannons at them, police said.
Into the third week after the state budget was first presented, the protest is still on against the CM Pinarayi Vijayan-led LDF government after receiving a series of scathing attacks from the opposition parties including the BJP and Congress.

Earlier, Thiruvananthapuram MP and Congress veteran Shashi Tharoor attacking the Vijayan government termed the budget “very disapoointing.”

Speaking with ANI, Tharoor said “It is an extremely disappointing budget. The Budget is unfortunately exploiting the common man. Because the government seem to have no imagination, no idea how to generate revenue.”

On a separate front, former Union Minister Prakash Javdekar called it “anti-people.” Javdekar’s response was heavily concerned towards the provision of a price hike in petrol made in the budget.

Meanwhile, the Congress unit (KPCC) has also announced the statewide protest on February 28th against the budget terming it as “Tax Terrorism,” stated a press release quoting the KPCC president K Sudhakaran.

Workers of the Congress youth wing waved black flags against CM Pinarayi Vijayan when his convoy passed in Ernakulam. Among the main concerns in the provisions of the budget highlighted by the political parties includes the refusal to roll back the tax proposals and the social security cess on fuel and liquor. Biden Pledges $500MN Military Aid For Ukraine

Biden Pledges $500MN Military Aid For Ukraine

US President Joe Biden who made an unannounced visit to Kyiv today, days before the first anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion, pledged a USD 500 million military aid package for the country.

Addressing a joint briefing alongside Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelenskyy, Biden said, “We will announce USD 500 million in aid to Ukraine. This will consist of javelins, howitzers, and artillery ammunition. Later, we will announce additional sanctions against companies which are trying to back Russia.”
Biden said the package would be announced on Tuesday and that Washington would also provide more ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) in Ukraine’s possession.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s president has lauded Biden’s visit to Kyiv as the first anniversary of Russia’s invasion approaches.

“Joseph Biden, welcome to Kyiv! Your visit is an extremely important sign of support for all Ukrainians,” Zelenskyy said in a post on Telegram.

The US leader’s visit comes at a crucial moment in the war as Biden looks to keep allies unified in their support for Ukraine with the war expected to intensify in the coming months as both sides prepare for anticipated spring offensives.

Zelenskyy is pressing allies to speed up the delivery of pledged weapon systems and is calling on the West to deliver fighter jets to Ukraine – something that Biden to date has declined to do.

Biden declared from Kyiv on Monday that a year after invading Ukraine, “Putin’s war of conquest is failing.”

“Putin’s war conquest is failing. Russia’s military has lost half its territory once occupied. Young, talented Russians fleeing from Russia because they see no future in the country. Russia’s economy is isolated and struggling,” said Biden.

“Putin thought Ukraine was weak and the West was divided. He thought he could outlast us. I don’t think he’s thinking that right now, ” Biden said standing alongside Ukrainian President Zelenskyy.

“He’s just been plain wrong,” Biden said of Putin. “One year later, the evidence is right here in this room. We stand here together.”

“One year later Kyiv stands, Ukraine stands, and Democracy stands. America and the world stand with you. Kyiv has captured a part of my heart. Freedom is priceless, it is worth fighting for. We are going to be with you for as long as it takes,” said Biden.

President Biden’s trip to Kyiv on Monday was shrouded in secrecy, a reflection of the steep security concerns of visiting an active war zone.

Biden is travelling with a relatively small entourage, including national security adviser Jake Sullivan, deputy chief of staff Jen O’Malley Dillon and personal aide Annie Tomasini, reported CNN.

Zelenskyy said negotiations between his and US President Biden’s teams in Kyiv were a major boost to his country.

“This conversation brings us closer to victory,” Zelenskyy said, speaking alongside Biden on Monday.

“The results of this visit will surely be seen, and will surely have repercussions on the battlefield in liberating our territories,” he added.

The Ukrainian leader also called Biden’s surprise visit the most important in the “history of the Ukraine-US relationship.”

“Ukrainians remember the focus, attention, the attitude that President Biden and the US have given to Ukraine,” Zelenskyy added.

“I thank you for this level of US-Ukraine cooperation,” he said.

Zelensky said he had discussed the supply of more advanced Western weapons to Ukraine, and cited the recent decision by the US to send Abrams tanks to the country as another defining moment.

“The decision of the US on Abrams tanks has already presented a foundation for establishing a tank coalition and is of historic importance,” he said.

“We’ve also talked about long-range weapons and the weapons that may still be supplied to Ukraine – even though have not been supplied before,” added Zelenskyy. (ANI)

At 66, Anil Kapoor, who has been suffering from Achilles’ tendon issue, has shown us that one can’t take their health for granted. From sprinting to cycling, skipping and boxing, he does everything to keep him fit and stay in shape.
  • Soha Ali Khan When it comes to being a fitness inspiration, actress Soha Ali Khan tops the list. She has been actively sharing her workout routine with her fans on Instagram. She swears by high-intensity workouts and yoga and ensures to never miss a day from her workout routine. She does not go to gym. She has been inspiring us from her living room. Yes, you read it right. Her Instagram feed is the best example of how to work out at home.

What makes the video more inspiring is Kareena not getting distracted by the cute presence of her toddler Jeh.
  • Alia Bhatt Giving us some major post-pregnancy fitness inspiration is none other than actress Alia Bhatt, who recently gave birth to her daughter Raha. In December 2022, Alia took to Instagram and shared a picture while performing aerial yoga. She shared that she tried it for first time after becoming a mother. In the picture, a yoga swing hammock can be seen hanging in the air. Alia made a namaste gesture as she posed for the camera. She was seen hanging upside down with utmost ease. Sharing the image, Alia wrote, “One and a half months post-partum, after gradually re-building my connection with my core, and with full guidance from my teacher @anshukayoga I was able to attempt this inversion today. To my fellow mamas, listening to your body post delivery is key. Do NOT do anything your gut tells you not to. For the first week or two during my workouts, all I did was breathe… walk… find my stability and balance again (& I still have a long way to go). Take your time – appreciate what your body has done.” She concluded by saying, “After what my body did this year I have taken a vow to never be hard on myself again. Childbirth is a miracle in every way, and giving your body that love and support that it gave you is the least we can do. P.S – every body is different – pls speak to your doctor before doing anything that involves exercise.” (ANI)

Upendra Kushwaha Quits JDU, Launches New Political Party

Upendra Kushwaha Quits JDU, Launches New Political Party

In a huge setback for Bihar Chief Nitish Kumar ahead of the 2024 general elections, Upendra Kushwaha on Monday quit Janata Dal (United) and resigned from all party positions and launched a new political party ‘Rashtriya Lok Janata Dal’.

This development in Bihar politics comes when Kushwaha has been at loggerheads with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Kushwaha announced the name of his party – Rashtriya Lok Janata Dal and said that he has been made its national president.

The tussle between the two which has been going on for months came to an end today with the announcement, however, Kushwaha attacked Nitish while launching the political party.

“We’ve decided to form a new party – Rashtriya Lok Janata Dal. This has been decided unanimously. I’ve been made its national president. The party will take forward the legacy of Karpoori Thakur. We’ll work towards rejecting the agreement made with RJD,” he said.

He said that when Nitish Kumar became the Chief Minister after years RJD’s rule he did well, however, he lost track and the path he opted at the end was “bad for him and the party”.

“A new political innings is beginning today. Barring a few, everyone in JD(U) was expressing concern…A meeting was held with elected colleagues and decision was taken…Nitish Kumar did well in the beginning but in the end, the path on which he started walking is bad for him and Bihar, and the party,” he said.

Detailing the talks with Nitish Kumar while forging an alliance with the RJD for the second time that took place last year, Kushwaha said that he had asked the party chief to keep the leadership into his own hands to prevent the old situation (during the Lalu Yadav rule) from returning.

“I also accepted the talks of forging a new alliance (with the RJD). Before the alliance, I had asked Nitish Kumar to keep the leadership of the alliance with himself because I knew that if the leadership if out of his hands, the old situation will prevail. I was assured of the same. Days after forging an alliance, Nitish Kumar said that he wants to give the responsibility of Bihar to the RJD leader. He announced the name of an RJD leader as the next chief minister of Bihar, because of which we were worried about the future of Bihar,” he said.

Kushwaha alleged that the Chief Minister was not acting on his own volition and acted as per the suggestions of people around him.

“He’s unable to act on his own today because he never made an effort to make a successor…Had Nitish Kumar chosen a successor, he needn’t have looked at neighbours for one,” he said. (ANI)

Uddhav Reaping What He Had Sown: MNS Leader

Uddhav Reaping What He Had Sown: MNS Leader

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena leader Sandeep Deshpande on Monday called Uddhav Thackeray a ‘two-faced snake’, claiming that the former chief minister was “reaping what he had sown”.

Citing the “forced” resignation of Raj Thackeray from Shiv Sena in 2005 and the circumstances leading to it, the MNS leader said Uddhav was suffering today what his nephew went through earlier.
“Uddhav Thackeray is a two-faced snake. When 40 MLAs of Shiv Sena left him and formed the government with Eknath Shinde, he called them traitors. What kind of hypocrisy is this? Uddhav Thackeray is reaping what he had sown,” he said.

Alleging that Uddhav had always resorted to the politics of breaking up rival forces, Deshpande alleged that he had inducted 6 MNS corporators at a time when Raj Thackeray’s son was admitted to hospital.

“Uddhav Thackeray has always indulged in the politics of breaking rivals. Everyone knows that when Amit Thackeray (son of MNS chief Raj Thackeray) was admitted in the hospital, he (Uddhav) took advantage of that opportunity and prised away 6 of our corporators by giving them Rs 5 crores each. His past deeds are coming back to haunt him,” the MNS leader said.

“Everyone knows what Uddhav Thackeray did to Raj Thackeray. Raj Thackeray was forced to quit the party and the same thing is happening with Uddhav Thackeray today,” he added, recalling the MNS chief’s resignation from the then undivided Shiv Sena.

The Election Commission on February 17 allotted the party name ‘Shiv Sena’ and the symbol ‘Bow and Arrow’ to the faction led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

Both factions of Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde and Uddhav Thackeray) have been fighting for the bow and arrow symbol of the party since Shinde (present Maharashtra Chief Minister) revolted against Thackeray last year.

While the Shinde faction welcomed the decision of being recognized as the real Shiv Sena, the Uddhav Thackeray faction said they would move the Supreme Court.

Calling the poll panel’s decision as “murder of democracy”, Uddhav Thackeray said he will approach the Supreme Court against the decision.

Last month, both the Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and former CM Uddhav Thackeray-led factions of the Shiv Sena submitted their written statements in support of their claims of control over the party name and symbol to the Election Commission.

The EC had frozen the bow and arrow symbol of the Shiv Sena and had allotted the ‘Two Swords and Shield symbol’ to the Eknath Shinde faction of Shiv Sena and the ‘flaming torch’ (mashaal) election symbol was allotted to the Uddhav Thackeray faction for the bypoll in Andheri East assembly constituency in November last year.

However, exuding confidence in winning the election with the ‘torch’ symbol, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had challenged Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde to contest the election with the “stolen bow and arrow”, stating that the ‘battle has begun’. (ANI)
