Pak Man Referred As ‘Uncle’, Malasiyan No. On NIA Radar In FICN Case

An unknown Pakistani man referred to as ‘Uncle’ as well as a WhatsApp number from Malaysia ‘+60146950130’ used to direct the accused during the smuggling of 149 Counterfeit Indian Currency Notes of denomination of Rs 2,000 are under National Investigation Agency (NIA) radar in a fresh case taken over by the agency this month.
The Central agency took over the Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) case almost 14 months after the Crime Branch unit of Mumbai Police arrested a person namely Riyaz Abdul Rahiman Shikilkar and seized a total of 149 Counterfeit Indian Currency Notes of the denomination of Rs 2,000 from his possession.

As the case relates to an attempt to damage the monetary stability of India by way of smuggling and circulation of High-Quality Counterfeit Indian Currency Notes, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) Counter Terrorism and Counter Radicalization (CTCR) division handed over the case to the NIA on February 6, 2023.

The name of ‘Uncle’ came to light during the interrogation of Shikilkar, who was caught by the Mumbai Crime Branch on November 17, 2021, in Thane.

During the interrogation, Shikilkar revealed that the notes recovered from his possession were given to him by an unknown person referred to as ‘uncle’, who is a resident of Pakistan, to deliver them to someone in exchange for original Indian currency notes of Rs 1,80,000 after he got a call from WhatsApp number ‘+60146950130’, states the NIA’s First Information Report (FIR) registered earlier this month by its Mumbai wing.

“The offence relates to an attempt to damage the monetary stability of India by way of smuggling and circulation of High-Quality Counterfeit Indian Currency Notes,” said the NIA FIR.

Besides, the NIA has also started the hunt for another man named Nasir Usmangani Chaudhari.

Following MHA’s order based on information from the Government of Maharashtra regarding the registration of FIR on November 18, 2021, at Naupada Police Station, the NIA took over the case and re-registered fresh FIR under charges of 489 A, 489 B and 489 C and section 34 of Indian Penal Code, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, relating to seizure of 149 Counterfeit Indian Currency Notes of denomination of Rs 2,000 from one person namely, Riyaz Abdul Rahiman Shikilkar, a resident of 47/1, Abdulla Gondiwala Chawi, Guljargali, Naupada Bandra (East), Mumbai 51.

With regard to the gravity of the offence, the grave security ramifications and its national and international linkages, the MHA had decided to hand over the enquiry of the case by the NIA in accordance with the National Investigation Agency Act, 2008.

In its FIR, the NIA named three persons that included Shikilkar; Chaudhari, a resident of Jamatiya colony in Bandra West, Mumbai 50; and an unknown man named ‘Uncle’, a resident of Pakistan. (ANI)

India’s Relations With Europe Are Stronger And Deeper Than Ever Before: Jaishankar

Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday said that India’s relations with Europe are stronger and deeper than ever before.

In the inaugural session of CII India-Europe Sustainability Conclave, S Jaishankar said India’s relations with Europe are stronger and deeper than ever before and this event itself is a testimony of that assertion.
The Conclave focuses on the strategic role of India-Europe partnership in changing geo-political scenario, strengthening bilateral engagements and discussions on emerging economic opportunities.

“Between us, rests the largest democratic and free market space globally. The business communities of India and Europe have a large stake and an enabling role in this transformation,” Jaishankar said, adding “The business communities of India and Europe have a large stake and an enabling role in this transformation.”

He said, “I hope your deliberations will reflect what is at stake here, not just for us but for the entire world, and how we can join hands to realize the economic dividends and democratic values that are inherent in our partnership.”

In the opening lines of his speech, Jaishankar said, “Businesses have a primary role in driving sustainability and that is why we are all meeting here today. The enabler, however, is the larger partnership and the understanding between India and Europe.”

Jaishankar said India and the EU believed in a multi-polar global order, shared a commitment to promoting effective multilateralism and were increasingly considerate to each other’s geopolitical, economic, strategic and security concerns.

He said, “Visits and exchanges at the highest level are today a regular feature between India and Europe, including at the Prime Minister’s level. I have personally interacted with the Foreign Ministers of all the 27 EU Member States and the High Representative of the European Commission at least once last year.”

He said these interactions contributed to the resumption of the India-EU FTA negotiations, the India-EU Trade and Technology Council. “The announcement of that, dialogues in the areas of security and defence, and human rights, and not least, a jump in bilateral trade,” he added.

For a sharper focus, Jaishankar said, “We recently announced three Working Groups within the India-EU TTC for strategic cooperation in Trade, cooperation in Green Transition and cooperation in Digital Partnership. I am glad that these three pillars are reflected in the agenda of this Conclave.”

The EU is one of India’s largest and most important trade partners. Jaishankar said, “Our bilateral trade was in excess of USD 115 billion in the FY 2021-22, which is the highest ever. With the UK and other non-EU countries added, I believe that the number is even greater. We expect the India-EU FTA will be a game-changer for the India-EU relationship.”

He said, “We look forward to a mutually beneficial, mutually advantageous conclusion to the negotiation process within a reasonably short planned timeline.”

India’s new approach to trade agreements addresses issues of non-tariff and behind-the-border barriers, quality standards and related benchmarks. “With like-minded partners, we have actually demonstrated in recent years a fast-track change in our FTA negotiation processes. FTAs- with the UAE and Australia- were actually concluded in record time,” Jaishankar said.

Jaishankar said India is expected to be the only major economy to keep growing at well above 6 per cent per annum in the foreseeable future, and thus will remain one of the major growth engines of the world.

He said when it comes to the green transition, clean energy and green transition are central to the India-EU Connectivity Partnership.

“Synergies have emerged in solar and wind energy, in green hydrogen, smart grids, sustainable urban transport (especially metro projects), waste management and the circular economy. But, to sustain this cooperation, the real ask is capacity building, clean technology transfer, alignment of standards and cooperation in critical materials,” he said, adding “And here, let me say upfront that promoting green financing is the ignition for any long-term result-oriented outcome.”

Jaishankar said India is today one of the leading countries in climate change mitigation commitments and environmental protection.

“Our Low-Carbon Development Strategy lays out the path to a carbon-neutral economy while taking into account specific development goals,” Jaishankar said, adding, “We have the third biggest installed renewable energy capacity in the world. Without stressing on our ambitious Nationally Determined Contributions at the UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change), let me say that we will reach our goals even earlier.”

Looking ahead, Jaishankar said, “India’s ambitious Green Hydrogen policy incentivises an indigenous ecosystem for local needs and exports. In this, we have already seen collaborations between many major European firms and Indian companies.”

“Electric vehicles, as Minister Rasmussen (His Danish counterpart) noted, will be the next big thing for a green transition of India’s urban landscape,” he said, adding, “Green transition is also the core of our sustainability goals and it is enshrined in our agenda for the G20 presidency, and in fact Prime Minister Modi’s LiFE Initiative adds the dimension of individual responsibility and ownership of our environment, in the synergy with India’s declared climate and environmental goals.” (ANI)

‘Police Threatened To Dispose Bust’: Brother Of Galwan Martyr

Galwan Valley Martyr’s Father Thrashed, Arrested Over Encroachment

Family members of a jawan, who was among the soldiers who lost their lives in the 2020 Galwan Valley clash with Chinese PLA troops in eastern Ladakh, have alleged that the martyr’s father was thrashed and arrested by the police for building a memorial for his son on government land in Jandaha in Bihar’s Vaishali.

The jawan whose father was targeted was identified as Jai Kishore Singh.
However, the police claimed that the matter is linked to an issue of illegal encroachment, which

was in violation of the rights of the landowner.

“On January 23, a case was registered under SC/ST Act over a statue being erected on the land of Hari Nath Ram & on govt land in Jandaha. Later, walls bordering the statue were built. They have not sought any permission. If they wanted, they could have made it in their own land or sought land from the government. There would not have been an issue then. The landowner’s rights being violated due to illegal encroachment,” the SDPO Mahua said.

However, the brother of the martyr, Jai Kishore Singh, who himself is in the armed forces, accused the police of thrashing his father and abusing him.

“DSP ma’am visited us, asking us to remove the statue within 15 days. I said I will show her the document. Later, the police station in-charge came to our home and beat up my father before arresting him. They also abused my father. I am also in the armed forces personnel,” Nand Kishore, brother of Jai Kishore Singh, said.

The locals protested against the police action and also chanted ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’. (ANI)

The Murderous Mob Is Out Again!

The Murderous Mob Is Out Again!

The bubble is bursting. While a darker, diabolical, deathly bubble waits at the next crossroad. The pattern is so predictable. Can India stop it this time?

Is the time-tested card of hate politics and violent polarisation floating yet again on the horizon? As the so-called unbreachable fortress of political propaganda and economic power seems to be cracking under the catalytic pressures of shocking and shameful revelations each day, followed by desperate and vindictive actions defying decency, protocol or convention, India and the world is watching this theatre of the absurd unfold.

Indeed, is the season of mob-lynching back?

What began like a jarring orchestra along with the utterly failed dream sequence of ‘acche din’ – is this barbarism once unleashed by the miscellaneous front outfits of the hydra-headed Hindutva octopus — back once again? Now in Haryana, close to the National Capital, thereby sending a sinister signal to the rest of the country!

On February 16, the burnt bodies of two Muslim young men were found in Bhiwani, Haryana. They belonged to Bharatpur in Rajasthan, home of the famous Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary where the Siberian Cranes are refusing to arrive. The entire sequence of barbarism, seems like a full-fledged enactment of mob rule and impunity given to self-styled goons who claim to be gau-rakshaks, cow protectors. Rajasthan police has alleged that the nine accused allegedly kidnapped and assaulted Junaid, 35, and Nasir, 27 on February 15, and took them to at least two police stations in Firozpur Jhirka, but were reportedly turned away by the officers there. Why?

There is no evidence that they were smuggling cows. There is no evidence either that they were thieves or child-lifters. There is no evidence whatsoever which proves that they did anything against the law!

Besides, who gave the moral high ground and legal sanctity to the murderous goons to unleash violence on Indian citizens travelling through Haryana? From which anti-constitutional zone of political legitimacy does this killing machine emerge whereas they can lynch and burn people with no fear whatsoever? Besides, were they burnt alive or was their car set on fire after they were lynched in cold-blood?

Junaid! There was another Junaid, just about 15, who told his mother, “Ammi, main ek din bara aadmi banoonga…” He was lynched in a Mathura-Delhi local train on June 22, 2017, as he went shopping for the festival of Eid. There was apparently an argument for a seat which turned into a communal cauldron. He was lynched to death in front of everybody and his body was thrown out of the train. The chargesheet revealed that the prosecution named 45 witnesses. Key witnesses included Junaid’s brothers and friends — Hashim, Shakir, Moin, Mousim — who were with him in the train.

Four years later, a reporter did a follow-up on a phenomenon which seemed to have spread in other parts of the country, so vicious and vitiated had the atmosphere become. His mother, Saira Bano, still heart-broken, remembered that she was wearing a red saree and there was festivity and happiness in the air. New clothes, sweets, good food, bonhomie and love. And the sweet dreams of a young boy who promised his mother that he wanted to become something big — in a secular, pluralist democracy!

The murder of young Junaid in a train, as the mob-lynching of Akhlaq earlier in Dadri in UP on the pretext that he had beef in his fridge, triggered a wave of ‘Not in My Name’ mass, peaceful protests across the country. There were massive demonstrations all over the world, from London to Boston.

In July, 2019, outside the Lord’s stadium in London, during the World Cup final between the Kiwis and England, suddenly, a van with a huge electronic board arrived. You just could not miss it. The media was soon spreading its message across the globe. The message: Stop mob-lynchings in India!

In Headingly, Leeds, in a crucial match between India and Sri Lanka, a helicopter suddenly appeared with a banner: Help end mob-lynchings in India. The message spread across the social media, TV screens and print media all over the world.

In a Boston rally, an activist said: “Lynching starts at the highest political level and has been used by fascists and supremacists to strike terror into the collective consciousness of a community. There is no end to the mass atrocities that will follow.”

The relentless ritual continued. A five-minute video of Tabrez Ansari in Jharkhand, tied to a tree, and lynched, was so graphic that no human with basic sanity could watch it for a few seconds. But they did make it wilfully and circulated it with pride as they did with similar other cases of cold-blooded murders. The videos were integral in this vicious soap opera of serial killings as public spectacles; as a weapon of destruction; an instrument to legitimize, consolidate and celebrate hate politics, and target the minorities in India.

Not only that, the cops reportedly kept a seriously injured Tabrez in the police station for 48 hours without food, water or medical treatment. By the time he was shifted to the hospital, he was dead. His crime – he was on a holiday from Pune where he was employed; he would have returned to his wife soon after.

An anarchic new normal seems to have poisoned the air in the country during that phase, and Jharkhand, under BJP-rule, then, became yet another lab of hate. This reporter walked inside the by-lanes out there to follow-up on these stories of organised mob-murders done in full public view, and it seemed that there were eyes chasing us in a completely hostile territory, with the police and administration apparently totally biased.

In all the killings, the mob-lynchings would go on in public spaces for a long time, and the cops and administration would simply disappear. Justice would be slow and delayed. Instead, the killers would flaunt their muscle power and political patronage all over the place, even taking out provocative marches outside the homes of the victims, inside their neighbourhood, putting more salt in their simmering wounds. This was a criminal enactment where the State and its machinery seemed in total complicity with the killers.

A Union minister garlanded the killers of Aleemuddin who was lynched in a market place in Ramgarh. A father watched his young son being hanged on a tree even as he took the cattle to a cattle fair in Palamau, with another person, who too was hanged. I met their families, and I have stood under that tree – it is a horror story which keeps coming back like a nightmare.

Two Muslim professionals, back from the Middle East, one, a second-hand car dealer, the other a plumber, living in sprawling homes with their school-going children, were lynched by a crowd near Godda. They were branded as child-lifters! I saw their little children returning from English medium schools in their school uniforms, and I have met their brave and heart-broken wives – what kind of people can inflict such pain on innocent, hard-working citizens of India out of sheer, irrational hate?

Another Muslim man on a cycle was so brutally assaulted that it was difficult to watch the pictures. Being beaten to death for no rhyme or reason in Godda, yet again on the fake charge of being a cow thief.

Indeed, there was always a method in this madness. As if a cold-blooded mastermind and his loyalist lieutenants have been conducting this grotesque show from the shadows. That is why, Bhiwani murders point to a more sinister and diabolical season of hate, perhaps, as a preparation for 2024?

AAP Excise Policy Was To Exploit Money For Elections With Khalistanis Help: Gambhir

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Gautam Gambhir on Tuesday described the Delhi Excise Policy Scam as an “open-and-shut case” and alleged that the policy was made to exploit money to “fight elections with Khalistani help”.

The BJP MP said that the AAP leaders should get “what they deserve”.
“It was an open-and-shut case. They should get what they deserve. This is the 1st time in India that an Education Min will go to Tihar jail that too in liquor scam case. This policy was made to exploit money so they can fight elections with Khalistani’s help,” Gambhir said while speaking to ANI.

He said that if Manish Sisodia, who is the Education Minister in the Arvind Kejriwal government besides heading the Delhi government’s excise department, has opened schools and colleges, he should show it to the BJP.

“If there was no discrepancy in liquor policy, it shouldn’t have been taken back. This is not the time to give emotional statements. If he (Sisodia) has opened schools, colleges and hospitals, show it to us. He can move to SC, but for me, Delhi CM and AAP has been exposed,” he said.

Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party leader Harish Khurana on Tuesday demanded the resignation of jailed Ministers of the Kejriwal government- Manish Sisodia and Satyender Jain – while recalling the Aam Aadmi Party supremo’s earlier stand of resignation.

This comes after Manish Sisodia moved Supreme Court challenging his arrest by the CBI in the excise policy scam case in Delhi. Sisodia was arrested on February 26 after 8-hour questioning.

BJP leader Harish Khurana said that Sisodia and Jain should step down on “moral grounds”.

“Manish Sisodia has moved the SC challenging yesterday’s decision of the court. He has the right to go but a question is raised on moral grounds. Arvind Kejriwal used to say in 2013 that there should be a resignation after any allegation is levelled against anyone. The allegation would be proven later. He had levelled allegations against leaders like Nitin Gadkari, Sheila Dikshit, and P Chidambaram. But today, their one minister is jailed for 8 months, the other is in the police remand,” he said.

“2 Ministers of Delhi are in jail today. You have not sacked Satyender Jain till today. Where is your morality? We demand you (Arvind Kejriwal) to seek his resignation on the basis of morality from both ministers. There are 22 ministries with Sisodia. Would they be run from jail? Isn’t there a Constitutional breakdown in Delhi?” the BJP leader asked.

Meanwhile, Supreme Court on Tuesday agreed to hear Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia’s plea challenging his arrest after he was arrested by CBI on Monday in connection with the Excise policy scam case.

The plea was mentioned by Abhishek Manu Singhvi seeking an urgent hearing on Sisodia’s plea before the bench led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud.

This comes a day after the special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court on Monday granted 5 days remand of Sisodia to the CBI till March 4, to interrogate him in the excise policy case.

The senior AAP leader was produced before the court on Monday.

Sisodia was arrested by the CBI on Sunday.

Aam Aadmi Party leaders and workers staged protests in various states on Monday, crying vendetta behind Sisodia’s arrest and calling for his release at the earliest.

Meanwhile, the CBI on Sunday released a statement on Sisodia’s arrests, claiming he was giving evasive replies and wasn’t cooperating in the ongoing investigation in the liquor scam case.

The agency further said Sisodia had been summoned earlier on February 19 in connection with the ongoing probe, but had sought a week’s time citing the Delhi Budget.

“The Deputy CM was issued a notice under section 41A of CrPC for attending the investigation on February 19, 2023. However, he sought time of one week citing his preoccupation,” the CBI stated.

On his arrest, the CBI issued a statement saying, “He gave evasive replies and did not cooperate in the investigation despite being confronted with evidence to the contrary. Therefore, he has been arrested.” (ANI)

Delhi: Myanmar Woman Gang-Raped In Kalindi Kunj Area

A Myanmarese woman was allegedly gang-raped by four people in the national capital, informed Delhi Police on Tuesday.

The Myanmar woman alleged that she was made unconscious and abducted by an auto-rickshaw driver in the Kalindi Kunj area before being gang raped.
According to Delhi Police officials, the woman is a registered refugee.

“A case has been registered by the police following her complaint,” a police officer said.

According to the complaint, she was visiting somewhere in Southeast Delhi, along with her husband, for the treatment of their daughter, when the auto driver abducted her and took her to an isolated location.

“We registered a case on February 25 under IPC sections 365, 368, 376d,323, and 506,” said a police official.

An investigation is underway, police informed further.

Earlier, on February 3, a three-year-old was allegedly gang-raped by two persons in Delhi’s Fatehpur Beri area.

A woman reached Delhi’s Fatehpur Beri Police Station along with her daughter aged about three years, stating that her daughter had gone missing.

She said she was looking for her daughter when her neighbour, Rani, informed her that she had seen her daughter walking near the jungle area.

The neighbour claimed further that she had also seen two persons going in the same direction, towards the Jungle area.

According to the mother, they searched the area and found the child crying and bleeding from her private part. When the mother enquired about what had happened, the child kept crying.

The child was taken for her medical examination to a hospital. Following the complaint, the police swung into action and apprehended the accused.

The accused were identified as Ramniwas Panika (27) and Shaktiman Singh (22). Both belong to Sidhi district in Madhya Pradesh, officers said, adding that they were booked. (ANI)

China’s Foreign Minister To Attend G20 Meet In India

China’s Foreign Minister To Attend G20 Meet In India

China on Tuesday confirmed that its Foreign Minister Qin Gang will be participating in the Group of 20 (G20) Foreign Ministers’ meeting in India, reported Reuters.

During a press briefing, China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said, “The G20 should focus on prominent challenges in the global economy. China stands ready to work with all parties to ensure the G20 foreign ministers’ meeting sends a positive signal on multilateralism.”
The G20 Foreign Ministers Meeting (FMM) is scheduled to take place in physical format from March 1-2, 2023 in New Delhi under India’s presidency.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to address the foreign ministers of the member countries of G20 and he will talk about India’s growing influence globally.

The March 1-2 meeting of the G20 foreign ministers will be held days after a meeting of finance chiefs of the bloc in Bengaluru.

The New Delhi meeting will be attended by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverly. In all, representatives of 40 countries, including non-G20 members invited by India, and multilateral organisations will attend.

Mao also reacted to the White House setting a deadline for removing TikTok from federal devices.

“US is overstretching concept of national security, abusing state power to suppress foreign companies, we firmly oppose those wrong actions,” she added.

The White House on Monday (local time) gave federal agencies 30 days to purge the Chinese-owned app TikTok from all government-issued devices.

The directive comes after congressional legislation passed in December banned the popular video-sharing app from federal government devices and systems, amid concerns TikTok’s parent company ByteDance could allow the Chinese Communist Party access to user data, reported New York Post (NYP).

Several government agencies, including the White House, Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, and the State Department, had preemptively banned TikTok from government devices before Congress’s December vote.

Meanwhile, ByteDance-owned TikTok has said the concerns are fueled by misinformation and has denied using the app to spy on Americans.

ByteDance denied that it would share user data with the CCP, calling the concerns “misinformation,” reported NYP.

The US move comes after Canadian government blocked the short-form video app TikTok from official electronic devices.

According to CNN, the ban is set to take effect on Tuesday. Government-issued devices will be blocked from downloading TikTok, and existing installations of the app will be removed, according to a statement by the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat. (ANI)

SC Agrees To Hear Sisodia’s Plea Challenging His Arrest Today

Supreme Court on Tuesday agreed to hear Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia’s plea challenging his arrest after he was arrested by CBI on Monday in connection with the Excise policy scam case.

The plea was mentioned by Abhishek Manu Singhvi seeking an urgent hearing on Sisodia’s plea before the bench led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud.
Supreme Court said that it will hear the matter after the end of board on Tuesday.

The workers were seen sitting on roads and chanting slogans while some staged a foot march wearing handcuffs against the BJP in the national capital. The workers were seen attempting to cross the barricades as the police tried to push them back. The police asked the party workers to step inside the office.

AAP workers protested outside the party office in the national capital, raising slogans such as “Jail ke taale tutenge, Manish Sisodia chutenge” (Jail locks will be broken, Manish Sisodia will be freed).

AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj said they have come to be arrested, as the agency has arrested Manish Sisodia in a false case.

“The Centre wants to arrest every leader, MLA and Minister of the AAP. So we, too, have come to PM Modi asking to be arrested. All of us have come to give our arrest. End our party and put us all in jail. The world should know that there is a dictatorship in India and the situation of Emergency is prevailing,” AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj told ANI earlier.

Meanwhile, the CBI on Sunday released a statement on Sisodia’s arrests, claiming he was giving evasive replies and wasn’t cooperating in the ongoing investigation in the liquor scam case.

Sachin’s Life-Size Statue To Be Unveiled At Wankhede During 2023 World Cup

Sachin’s Life-Size Statue To Be Unveiled At Wankhede During 2023 World Cup

Fans will soon get to see a life-size statue of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar at the Wankhede stadium.

Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) president Amol Kale announced the news on Tuesday. It will be the first instance of a player’s statue being installed at the iconic stadium. The statue will be unveiled during the 2023 ICC World Cup. It will be erected outside the MCA lounge on a circular platform.
The MCA is celebrating the Golden Jubilee year of the Master Blaster at the Wankhede and the statue is a part of the celebration.

In cricket stadiums across the country, there are only a handful of life-size statues. Only three different statues of the former Indian captain Colonel CK Nayudu have been erected thus far. They are located at the Holkar Stadium in Indore, the Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) stadium in Nagpur, and the VDCA stadium in Andhra.

The Master Blaster was present at the MCA with Amol Kale and interacted with reporters.

“This decision is a pleasant surprise for me, 1998 is when it all started at the Wankhede. The journey started here for me. Played my first Ranji match here. Long ago, Achrekar sir reprimanded me here and from thereon I became a serious cricketer. I played my last match at this very venue. Life has come full circle for me here. I have wonderful memories of this place, some memorable and some not-so-good. It’s a big moment for me,” Sachin said.

The legendary batter reminisced about his memories of the Wankhede and said that it holds a special place in his heart.

“I am still a 25 -year-old with 25 years of experience I would say. It’s good and I would like to thank the MCA for this really great gesture. It’s a very special place for me and a lot of things happened in my career because of the MCA. The amount of time that I have spent here is second to none and I have enjoyed being here and playing here. A special place for me. I got the message from MCA regarding the statue and it’s a special occasion for me. I came here to discuss the type of statue that will be created and to identify a place for it. Things such as these are rare and unique,” stated the former India player.

MCA President Amol Kale mentioned that the statue will be unveiled during the 2023 ICC World Cup that will be held in India.

“We will unveil the statue during the World Cup as a lot of members from the cricket fraternity will be here and will try to make it a grand occasion,” Kale said.

Sachin has featured in 200 Tests, 463 ODIs, and 1 T20I for India, scoring 34,357 runs across all formats. The Master Blaster holds the record for most international centuries with 100 hundreds to his name. He won the World Cup in 2011 at the Wankhede. (ANI)

‘Gurgaon Sits On A Seismic Faultline; Safety Audit Of High-rises A Must’

‘Gurgaon Sits On A Seismic Faultline; Safety Audit Of High-rises A Must’

Sanwariya Garg, 75, is a resident of Gurugram is worried about the safety and security of his family after watching the visuals of earthquakes in Turkey-Syria

Seven years ago, I shifted from my hometown Rohtak to a high-rise apartment in a tony sector of Gurgaon. This gated community, named Harmony Society, has all the features of modern living amenities and my family felt it a privilege to move in here. However, ever since I saw the devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Sryia, which showed towering housing structures turning into rubble, I am having sleepless nights.

To make the situation worse, I recently saw a news report about a housing society named Chintels Paradiso in Sector 109, where a portion of the roof of an apartment collapsed, and causing two deaths. This society has 530 flats and nearly 420 families have been staying there for the past four years. This project started in 2011 and possession was given in 2017. I wonder what structural flaws caused this accident, as the building was provided with safe occupation certificated by civic authorities just five years back.

When the construction of a building is completed, multiple checks are conducted to evaluate the structural integrity and safety of the building before it is declared safe to occupy. The recommendatory National Building Code has a section on safety of residential buildings, and the Real Estate Regulatory Act (RERA) places the onus of structural defects on the developer for a period of five years.

ALSO READ: Learn From Turkey, Carry Out Safety Audits

Such incidents clearly shake your belief in the system. In many cases the problem is inferior quality of materials used, or poor workmanship, poor maintenance which leads to seepage, and swelling of joints that can weaken the structures. And the problem is not limited to private builders. Some time ago, I distinctly remember, DDA (Delhi Development Authority) flats in Dwarka witnessed collapse of several balconies.

However, high-rise buildings carry far greater risk. One faulty component of a multi-storey structure, triggered by an earthquake like event, can bring down an entire tower like a house of cards. Turkey is a living example to this fact. The government must draw its lessons from the tragedy.

As a citizen of Gurgaon, I demand a mandatory and timely structural audit which should be done by expert agencies. Supreme Court and city authorities should ask an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) or a Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) to execute such audits. Residents and buyers should not be intimidated if the developer gets aggressive when you ask for a relook at certain parts of the structure. If you pay the money, you have the right to ask for a perfect house.
