Sudan days after PMO meet

Safe Evacuation Of Indians From Sudan Days After PMO Meet

Some Indian nationals were evacuated among 66 citizens from 12 nations from the conflict-hit Sudan to Saudi Arabia.

The evacuation came days after External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar spoke to his Saudi Arabia counterpart and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday chaired a high-level meeting to review the security situation in Sudan.
Saudi Arabia ministry, in a statement, announced the “safe arrival” of 91 Saudi citizens and around 66 nationals representing the following nationalities Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Tunisia, Pakistan, India, Bulgaria, Bangladesh, the Philippines, Canada, and Burkina. Faso.

Sudan is facing violence due to fighting between the army and the paramilitary forces. There are reports of violence even amid a 72-hour ceasefire.

The statement read, “In the implementation of the directives of the Kingdoms Leadership, we are pleased to announce the safe arrival of the citizens of the Kingdom who were evacuated from the Republic of Sudan as well as several nationals of brotherly and friendly countries, including diplomats and international officials, who arrived in an evacuation operation carried out by the Royal Saudi Naval Forces with the support of various branches of the armed forces.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting to review the security situation in Sudan via video-conferencing on Friday.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Modi assessed the most recent developments in Sudan and received a first-hand report of the conditions on the ground, with a specific focus on the safety of over 3,000 Indian citizens presently located throughout the country.

The Prime Minister expressed his condolences on the passing away of an Indian national who tragically fell victim to a stray bullet last week.

Prime Minister Modi instructed all relevant officials to remain vigilant, closely monitoring developments and continuously evaluating the safety of Indian nationals in Sudan and extending them all possible assistance. The Prime Minister further directed the preparation of contingency evacuation plans, accounting for the rapidly shifting security landscape and the viability of various options.

The Prime Minister also emphasized the importance of maintaining close communication with neighbouring countries in the region, as well as those with significant numbers of citizens in Sudan.

Earlier, Jaishankar had a meeting on April 20 met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in New York and discussed the developments in Sudan.

“We had a very good meeting. Most of our meeting was on the Sudan situation. We also discussed the G20, and Ukraine conflict, but essentially it was about Sudan,” Jaishankar told ANI.

Jaishankar said that the Indian government is in continuous touch with its citizens stuck in Sudan.

“Our team in Delhi is in continuous touch with the Indians in Sudan, advising them, saying we know it’s very difficult for everybody but keep calm and don’t take unnecessary risk. I hope that the efforts will yield something very soon,” the EAM said.

Fighting has been raging between forces loyal to Sudan’s army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his deputy Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, who commands the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The conflict began since a coup in 2021 between Sudan’s military leader and his deputy on the ruling council erupted derailing a plan for a transition to a civilian democracy after the fall of longtime dictator Omar al-Bashir in 2019. Elections were supposed to be held by the end of 2023. (ANI)

Sidhu on Punjab Mortgaged

AAP Has Mortgaged Punjab: Sidhu

Senior Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu on Saturday lashed out at Aam Aadmi Party and said that AAP has mortgaged Punjab.

The election commission has scheduled the Jalandhar Lok Sabha bye-election on May 10, and counting will be done on May 12.
Sidhu addressed a press conference with Congress candidates Karamjit Kaur and Mohinder Singh Kaypee.

At the conference, Sidhu showed a video of Aam Aadmi Party convenor Arvind Kejriwal at the gathering in which AAP leader Kejriwal is talking about the promises he made to the people of Punjab.

After showing the video, Sidhu said, “AAP has mortgaged Punjab. In today’s time, people are feeling cheated. The Congress party had earlier said that all these people who are promising amenities free of cost, from where will the money come? Kejriwal said that people will come back to Punjab from abroad but their own children are outside.”

Hitting out at AAP leaders, Sidhu said, “Earlier there were fewer drugs in Punjab, now after the coming of this (AAP) party, Punjab has become a sea of drugs. They have taken out a procession of the people of Punjab.

“We have seen in the rally held in Jalandhar that all the chairs were empty. With the coming of AAP, the sand trolley which was worth 3700 rupees is now being sold for 25-25,000,” he added.

Highlighting Kejriwal’s promise of saying that there won’t be any ‘dharna’ in the state after AAP comes into power, Sidhu said, “AAP leader Kejriwal had said that after our government comes, there will be no ‘dharna’. But till now people everywhere are sitting on dharna for their demands.”

On the issue of electricity, Sindhu said, “Electricity will be provided round-the-clock in Punjab. Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has taken a loan of 2300 crores after his government came.”

The Congress party on Wednesday announced the list of its 40-star campaigners for the by-elections in the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat. (ANI)

AAP'S Sanjay Singh lEGAL NOTICE TO ED

AAP’s Sanjay Singh Sends Legal Notice To ED Demands Apology

Aam Aadmi Party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh has demanded that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) issue a public apology to him within 48 hours.

The MP has sent a legal notice to ED for tarnishing his public image.
The notice was sent on the MP’s behalf by Advocate Maninderjit Singh Bedi.

The notice addressed to Enforcement Directorate’s Director Sanjay Kumar Mishra and Additional Director Jogender, said, “The officials have knowingly and intentionally made certain untrue, defamatory, and incriminating statements against the MP in the Delhi Excise Policy prosecution complaint.”

The notice further points out that, “The ED’s associates, agents and employees have attempted to tarnish and mutilate the AAP leader’s public image and have attempted to otherwise popularise a perverse, false, motivated, wild, malicious and baseless campaign against his alleged involvement in Delhi Excise Policy.”

It further reads, “In conspiracy to defame and affect the reputation of Sanjay Singh, the ED has deliberately and maliciously defamed him by imputing his involvement in some Liquor Policy on the basis of an alleged statement dated October 1, 2022, recorded under Section 50 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act of Dinesh Arora.”

While also categorically denying the allegations, the notice said, “The allegations are completely baseless, malicious, and utter falsehood. It was portrayed by ED that the MP is involved in the alleged matter, which is false and derogatory.”

“The name of Sanjay Singh was mentioned by ED out of nowhere and without any basis, by making false statements in Judicial proceedings where ED are obligated to make only truthful assertions. The said false and derogatory statements have been made with the clear intention to defame the MP and to adversely affect his reputation and subject him to ridicule and social hatred.”

“The alleged statement of Dinesh Arora as recorded by ED has been mischaracterized and misquoted by ED in the complaint for ulterior purposes. The ED intentionally added the name of Sanjay without any basis with the mala-fide intent to cause disrepute to him. Towards this end, the ED has further circulated and caused to be published the complaint and specifically the portion pertaining to my client,” the notice reads further.

The notice calls upon the ED to immediately issue an open and public apology within 48 hours of receipt of the notice, for the mental agony and harassment faced by the MP.

“Please note that ED is severely liable for a such misdeed done with malicious intent. If you fail to comply with the above within 48 hours of the date of receipt of this notice, I have instructions to initiate appropriate civil and criminal proceedings against you before the competent court, and in that event, you shall be fully responsible for the same and related cost and consequences,” the notice said.

Reacting to the issue, Sanjay Singh said, “It is highly regrettable that an agency like the ED, which is supposed to be impartial, has resorted to such baseless allegations against me. I will not tolerate this kind of character assassination, and I have decided to take legal action against the officials responsible.” (ANI)

Dhoni Ruturaj CSK

Last Phase Of My Career, Important To Enjoy It: Dhoni

Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni has said that it is the “last phase” of his career and it is important to enjoy the phase.

Dhoni retired from international cricket in 2020 but continued playing for the CSK. His remarks have added to speculation that this could be his last IPL. However, he has not commented on the matter.
“Whatever is said and done, the last phase of my career, important to enjoy it,” Captain Cool said in the post-match presentation after the match with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) which his team won on Friday. This was CSK’s fourth win in this IPL season

With the match at the home ground, the Yellow army came in huge numbers. Chennai’s skipper was overwhelmed with the support.

“It feels good to be here. They have given a lot of love and affection. They always stay late to listen to me. Not getting a lot of chance to bat – I am not complaining,” he said.

Dhoni lauded pacer Matheesha Pathirana.

“You need time to pick his action (Pathirana). He has got variation, he has got good pace. We have seen with Malinga – someone who has awkward action and who is very consistent with line and length – it’s difficult to score off him. Definitely, he has been a find,” CSK’s skipper said.

“I was hesitant to bat second. Had the feeling there would not be much dew. It was slightly cloudy. The spinners, once they came in, they bowled a very good length. Overall the middle overs were the setup. Fast bowlers bowled very well in the last few overs,” Dhoni added.

Dhoni also talked of the catch he took of Aiden Markram off the bowling of Matheesha Pathirana and said it was a “fantastic catch” but he did not get the award.

“I always tell them that first preference of field setting is with you…Still, they did not give me the best catch award. I was in such a wrong position. Just because we wear gloves, people think it is easy. I felt it was a fantastic catch. A long time back, I still remember one game – Rahul Dravid was keeping and he caught one like that. Once you get old, that is the only time you get experience. Unless you are Sachin paaji and start playing at 16-17. Definitely old, cannot shy away from that,” Dhoni concluded. (ANI)

Sudan evacuation of foreign nationals

Sudan Army Agrees To Assist In Evacuation Of Foreign Nationals

After a week of battle, there is hope that the evacuation of foreign nationals from Sudan will now be possible after both of the opposing parties vying for control of Sudan declared they are prepared to do so, according to CNN.

The Sudanese army announced in a recent statement that it had consented to assist in evacuating citizens and diplomats from several nations, including the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and China.
Evacuations are expected to begin “within the coming hours,” according to the statement, CNN reported on Saturday.

In order to allow nations to evacuate their citizens, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) declared on Friday that they were prepared to reopen all airports in Sudan to air traffic partially.

The Sudan Armed Forces (SAF), led by General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, and the paramilitary RSF, under the direction of Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, engaged in fierce fighting last Saturday in Sudan.

Although the two were once partners, tensions between them developed amid talks to incorporate the RSF into the nation’s military as part of preparations to reestablish a civilian government.

Fighting continued in Khartoum on Friday, even though the Sudanese army said it had reached an understanding with the rival Rapid Support Forces (RSF) for a three-day ceasefire to allow civilians to observe the Muslim festival of Eid al-Fitr. The RSF announced earlier in the day that a 72-hour ceasefire had been reached in observance of Eid.

Countries including Germany, Japan, South Korea, Spain, and the US have been unable to evacuate embassy workers since the airport in Khartoum is engulfed in violence and the skies are insecure, read a report published in Al Jazeera.

According to a Western diplomat, the Sudanese evacuation situation is among the most challenging they have ever encountered. The US is probably concentrating on achieving a truce so that its personnel may be evacuated. Washington has said that private US citizens living in Sudan shouldn’t expect a coordinated evacuation by the US government. Vedant Patel, the deputy spokeswoman for the US State Department, stated that authorities were in contact with hundreds of US individuals believed to remain in Sudan.

The State Department on Friday confirmed the death of a US citizen there.

The conflict began when a coup in 2021 between Sudan’s military leader and his deputy on the ruling council erupted derailing a plan for a transition to a civilian democracy after the fall of longtime dictator Omar al-Bashir in 2019. Elections were supposed to be held by the end of 2023. (ANI)

Mamata on country division

Will Not Allow Any Division Of Country: Mamata

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee claimed that some people are trying to divide the nation by pursuing the politics of hate and said that she is ready to give her life but “will not allow division of the country”.

Addressing people after Eid UL Fitr namaz at Red Road in Kolkata, she said, “I’m ready to give my life, but will not allow any division of the country. We want peace in Bengal. We don’t want riots. We don’t want divisions in the country.”
Hitting out Bharatiya Janata Party, CM said, “All I would like to tell you is stay peaceful, don’t listen to anyone. A “Gaddar Party” with whom I have to fight and with agencies too. I have the courage to fight with them and I am not ready to move back.”

Accusing the saffron party of trying to change the constitution of the country, CM Banerjee said that if democracy will go, everything will be ruined.

Rahul after vacating bungalow

Ready To Pay Any Price For Speaking Truth: Rahul After Vacating Bungalow

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday vacated his official bungalow and said that he is ready to pay any price for speaking the truth.

The move comes after the disqualification of the former Lok Sabha MP.
Rahul Gandhi said the government bungalow located at Tughlaq Lane was given to him by people of the country and he had stayed there for 19 years.

Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi, party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and KC Venugopal were present as he handed over the keys to his official bungalow.

“People of Hindustan gave me this house for 19 years, I want to thank them. It’s the price for speaking the truth. I am ready to pay any price for speaking the truth. For some days I will be staying at 10 Janpath,” said Rahul Gandhi after the handover.

“I’ll stay at 10 Janpath for some time, then we’ll figure out something,” he said when asked where he will go now. Sonia Gandhi presently lives at 10 Janpath.

Priyanka Gandhi also echoed Rahul Gandhi’s sentiment when she stated that her brother was suffering as he had spoken the truth.

“Whatever my brother is saying is truth. He spoke truth about the government for which he is suffering. But we are not afraid..,” Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said.

AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal said, “They can give this house to anyone now. The way the Modi government and Amit Shah is targeting Rahul Gandhi is completely a political vendetta.”

Earlier in the day, trucks loaded with furniture were spotted departing from the 12 Tughlaq Lane bungalow.

Rahul Gandhi was sent a notice to vacate his bungalow, a day after a Surat Sessions Court on April 20 convicted him in a defamation case.

The Lok Sabha Secretariat on March 27 gave notice to Rahul Gandhi to vacate the government bungalow following his disqualification as MP from Lok Sabha after he was convicted in a 2019 defamation case by the Surat court for a ‘Modi surname’ remark.

Opposition parties had slammed the government over Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from Lok Sabha. The Congress leader was elected to the House from Wayanad in the 2019 general elections. (ANI)
