Chandrayaan-3: ISRO Releases 3D ‘Anaglyph’ Images Of Moon’s Surface

The Indian Space Research organisation on Tuesday put out a 3-dimensional ‘anaglyph’ image of the Chandrayaan-3 Vikram lander from the south pole of the Moon.

This image features the left image within the red channel, and the right image within the blue and green channels, resulting in a striking cyan hue.

“The Anaglyph presented here is created using NavCam Stereo Images, which consist of both a left and right image captured onboard the Pragyan Rover,” the space agency said on X (formerly Twitter)

Anaglyph is a simple visualization of the object or terrain in three dimensions from stereo or multi-view images.

“In this 3-channel image, the left image is positioned in the red channel, while the right image is placed in the blue and green channels (creating cyan). The difference in perspective between these two images results in the stereo effect, which gives the visual impression of three dimensions. Red and cyan glasses are recommended for viewing in 3D,” ISRO stated.

Red and cyan glasses are recommended for viewing in 3D. NavCam was developed by LEOS/ISRO. Data Processing is carried out by SAC/ISRO, the space agency added.

Notably, these images were released just a day after ISRO announced that the ‘Vikram Lander’ has been set into sleep mode at around 8 am (Indian Standard Time) on Monday morning.

ISRO said that the data collected by the payloads is received at the Earth and the Payloads are now switched off. It is expected by ISRO that Vikram Lander and Pragyaan will awake again on around September 22.

On August 23, India took a giant leap as the Chandrayaan-3 lander module successfully landed on the moon’s South Pole, making it the first country to have achieved the historic feat and bringing to an end the disappointment over the crash landing of the Chandrayaan-2, four years ago. Overall, India became the fourth country – after the US, China, and Russia – to have successfully landed on the moon’s surface. (ANI)

Article 370

SC Reserves Judgement On Pleas Challenging Abrogation Of Article 370

The Constitution bench of the Supreme Court has reserved its verdict on a batch of petitions challenging the abrogation of Article 370 and bifurcation of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union territories.

Five-judge Constitution bench comprising Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Sanjiv Khanna, BR Gavai, and Surya Kant reserves the judgement after hearing the arguments for 16 days.

The bench granted three days time to parties to file written notes on their submissions in the case.

The Central government has defended its decision of abrogation of Article 370 saying there was no “constitutional fraud” in repealing the provision that accorded special status to the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.

Attorney General R Venkataramani and Solicitor General Tushar Mehta appeared for Centre.

Centre told the bench that Jammu and Kashmir was not the only State whose accession to India was through instruments of accession but many other princely States that too had joined India, post-independence in 1947, with conditionalities and after their merger their sovereignty was subsumed in the sovereignty of India.

Of the 565 princely States at the time of independence in 1947, the majority of them were in Gujarat and many had conditions relating to taxes, land acquisition and other issues, the Central government told the bench.

Centre also submitted that the status of Jammu and Kashmir as a Union Territory is only temporary and it will be restored to Statehood, however, Ladakh would remain a Union Territory.

Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing on behalf of the petitioners, opened the arguments by saying Article 370 was no longer a “temporary provision” and it had assumed permanence post the dissolution of the Constituent Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir.

He contended that the Parliament could not have declared itself to be the legislature of J-K in order to facilitate the abrogation of Article 370 as Article 354 of the Constitution does not authorise such an exercise of power.

Highlighting that the express terms of clause 3 of Article 370 show that a recommendation from the Constituent Assembly was essential to remove Article 370, Sibal argued that in the wake of the dissolution of the Constituent Assembly whose recommendation was required to abrogate Article 370, the provision could not be revoked.

Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association has told the Supreme Court that while acceding to India, the Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir acceded his sovereignty over the territory of the State but not his sovereign power to rule and govern the State.

Accession of Jammu and Kashmir to India was territorial and except for defence, external affairs and communication, rest all the powers were retained with the State to make laws and govern, said senior advocate ZA Zafar appearing for J-K High Court Bar association.

The Central government has defended its decision to abrogate Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir saying post the changes, street violence, which was engineered and orchestrated by terrorists and secessionist networks has now become a thing of the past.

Since 2019, when Article 370 was abrogated, the entire region has witnessed an “unprecedented era of peace, progress and prosperity”, Centre said.

After the abrogation of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir life has returned to normalcy there after three decades of turmoil, the Centre in its affidavit told the Supreme Court.

It has been said that schools, colleges and universities have been functioning without any strikes during the last three years.

The Constitution bench was hearing a batch of petitions challenging the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution and bifurcating the state into two Union Territories.

A number of petitions were filed in the top court including those of private individuals, lawyers, activists politicians and political parties challenging the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, which splits Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories — Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.

On August 5, 2019, the Central government announced the revocation of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir granted under Article 370 and split the region into two Union territories. (ANI)

West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh Vote

UP’s Ghosi Assembly Records 21.57% Polling Till 11 AM, U’khand’s Bageshwar At 26.03

Over 20 per cent voter turnout was recorded till 11 am for the Ghosi assembly bye-election in Uttar Pradesh began on Tuesday morning, the Election Commission of India said.

The voting for the bye-elections to the other six assembly constituencies of several states, including Uttarakhand, Kerala, Tripura, West Bengal, and Jharkhand, started on Tuesday at 7 am.

Voting is slated to go on till 5 pm.

Voting for bye-elections is being held for Kerala’s Puthupally, Dhupguri seat in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri, Dumri in Jharkhand and Uttarkhand’s Bageshwar, and Boxanagar and Dhanpur in Tripura.

In the Bageshwar Assembly by-election, the voter turnout was recorded at 26.03 per cent while in Tripura’s Dhanpur, it was recorded at 39.48 per cent, and in West Bengal’s Dhupguri, it was at 34.26 per cent.

The Election Commission will release the results of bye-elections on Friday, September 8.

Notably, this is the first election between the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the Opposition bloc’s newly formed Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA).

Bypolls in five states were necessitated due to the deaths of the sitting MLAs, while the two other MLAs resigned from their posts. In Uttar Pradesh’s Ghosi, Dara Singh Chauhan’s reelection as Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA necessitated bypolls. Chauhan joined the BJP after leaving the SP. The BJP has filed Chauhan against SP’s Sudhakar Singh for the Ghose byelections.

Bye-election in Tripura’s Dhanpur was necessitated after the BJP’s Pratima Bhoumik resigned to retain her Lok Sabha seat, leaving the assembly vacant. Bhoumik’s brother Bindu Debnath will be fighting for the BJP against Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) candidate Kaushik Chanda in Dhanpur for the bypolls.

The BJP and CPI (M) will contest against each other in Tripura’s Boxanagar seat, which fell vacant after the death of CPI (MK) MLA Samsul Haque.

In Uttarakhand’s Bageshwar seat, the battle will be between the SP, Congress, and BJP against each other. A bye-election in Bageshwar was prompted by the death of BJP MLA Chandan Ram Dass.

Congress veteran Oomen Chandy’s death necessitated the bypolls in Kerala’s Puthupally seat. Congress has fielded Oommen Chandy’s son, Chandy Oomen, while the ruling party CPI (M) has fielded Jaick C. Thomas from this constituency.

The by-poll in Jharkhand’s Dumri was necessitated after the death of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) MLA Jagarnath Mahto. JMM has filed Mahto’s wife, Bebi Devi, who is representing the India bloc, against NDA’s Yashoda Devu and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Abdul Rizvi.

In West Bengal’s Dhupguri, the bye-election was necessary after the death of the BJP’s Bishnu Pada Ray. Tapas Ray from the BJP is contesting against Nirma Chandra Roy and CPI (M) candidate Ishwar Chandra Roy. (ANI)

Ayodhya Seer Paramhans

Ayodhya Seer Paramhans Reiterates Death Threat Against Udhayanidhi

Reiterating the death warning against Tamil Nadu Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin over his “eradicate Sanatan Dharma” remark, Ayodhya Seer Paramhans Acharya on Tuesday said that “if required, I myself will behead MK Stalin’s son, and I will also increase the bounty of Rs 10 crore if that is not enough for beheading him.”

“I would like to tell him to first read the history of Sanatan Dharma and then comment against it. He should apologise for whatever he has said against our Sanatan Dharma, and if he does not apologise, no matter if he is the son of a chief minister, he will get the punishment. If his head doesn’t get beheaded, I will increase the bounty; if at all required, I will myself behead him, Paramhans Acharya said, adding, “Whatever development has taken place in the country is because of ‘Sanatana Dharma’. He should apologise for his statement. He has hurt the sentiments of 100 crore people in the country.”

On Monday, Paramhans Acharya announced a reward of Rs 10 crore for beheading the DMK leader over his remarks against ‘Sanatan Dharma. “I will pay a Rs 10 crore cash reward to anyone who beheads Stalin and brings his head to me,” he said.

Responding to Paramhans Acharya’s statement, Udhayanidhi said that he is not afraid of such statements and that he is on the path of his grandfather Karunanidhi, who had also received similar death threats. He further went on to say that after making that remark at the conference, he already knew a lot of reactions would come from people, and now it is happening.

“You all know what has been happening for the last two days in Tamil Nadu. It’s that one word, all speaking mostly, Sanatan Dharma, not only in Tamil Nadu but all over India, people are talking about me.” Udhayandhi, said while speaking to the media. “In Chennai, the day before yesterday, a conference was held that was named the Sanatan Dharma Eradication Conference. What I said in it is, that Sanatan Dharma should be eradicated like we eradicate mosquitoes, malaria, dengue, cholera, and COVID. In that stage itself, I said that what I said now would make many people’s stomachs burn. What I said has been done.”

“From Amit Shah to Nadda, all are speaking about Udayanidhi now. A complaint has been registered to arrest me all over India. Today a saint has set a prize for my head. He has said that whoever chops off Udayanidhi’s head will be rewarded with 10 crore rupees. Whoever says this is a saint I am asking, What’s the affection for you on my head? You are a saint; how can you have 1 crore rupees? Are you a real saint or a duplicate saint? I have doubts about you. Why 10 crore to chop my head? If you give me 10 rupees for a comb, I myself can comb my hair,” he said.

“The same situation happened to Karunanidhi too, where a saint said before that if someone chops off Karunanidhi’s head, he will be rewarded one crore rupees. Karunanidhi said that even if you give 100 crores, I can’t even comb my hair. I am on the path of Karunanidhi and Ambedkar. Periyar, Anbazhagan, and our leader (Stalin) who struggles till now to eradicate Sanatan Dharma, and till that, the DMK will struggle,” he added.

Udhayanidhi’s statement at the ‘Sanatana Abolition Conference’ has sparked massive outrage across the nation. Several leaders and people have strongly criticised him for making such a statement and have even asked for an apology from the INDIA bloc as DMK part is a member of the INDIA alliance. Meanwhile, Uddhayanidhi on Monday said that he is ready to say whatever he has said about Santan Dharma again and again. (ANI)
