Gujarat Election 2022

Gujarat Voters Are Disgruntled But Have Little Choice

Dr Ajaz Shaikh, an anti-drugs activist in Gujarat, says it will be a Herculean task for the AAP to dislodge the well-entrenched electoral machinery of Hindutva politics in Gujarat

Gujarat was once embraced as the land of Mahatma Gandhi, and, his comrade, Sardar Patel. Now, it is labeled as a lab for Hindutva politics and as the home state of ‘Modi-Shah’ — the torch-bearers of the current Hindutva regime. With consistent victories of BJP in the state and two landslide victories at the Centre, the politics here — an experiment making a potent cocktail of Hindutva combined with crony capitalism and corporate-style state affairs — has become a successful election-winning model known as the ‘Gujarat Model’.

By controlling every aspect of social life of the majority and socio-political institutions with money and muscle, BJP is already far ahead in the race of ‘electoral democracy’; hence, the possibility of any other party winning should be considered over-ambitious. There is no level-playing field between BJP and other parties in terms of resources and institutional support which doesn’t make it difficult to predict that it may manage to secure the majority in the upcoming assembly elections.

The presence of AAP, mostly in urban areas, has generated anxiety among BJP workers. In the last polls, social movements (Patidar Andolan led by Hardik Patel, Una Andolan led by Jignesh Mewani and the OBC Andolan led by Alpesh Thakor) had put BJP’s victory in jeopardy as these movements had a strong impact on the youth in those communities. But two of these leaders have shifted to BJP and this has had a disappointing effect on the youth who have lost trust in people’s movements.

This time, a section of forward and dominant castes (Brahmins, Patidars, Maldharis etc,) seem to be shifting from BJP to AAP in Surat, Ahmedabad and Vadodara. Unemployment, drug addiction, trafficking, unregulated fees in private educational institutions, paper leaks, COVID-19 mismanagement, high electricity bills, poor condition of roads, the Morbi bridge collapse, etc, have had an impact on urban voters, as these all are predominantly urban issues. However, due to lack of organizational strength on the ground, it is difficult to say how much swing these issues can make in favour of AAP.

One can sense an anti-incumbency factor and displeasure for the current crop of state ministers and BJP leaders among the masses, but the aura of the PM and his fancy agendas of inaugurating so-called development projects or making grand road shows and rallies, seems intact among the urban middle and upper classes. It suggests that these classes will manage to minimize the anger (since they dominate the urban political discourse) if certain ministers and leaders are replaced by new ones. BJP is aware of this reality and thereby have denied tickets to several senior leaders and ministers.

The problem of Congress is in its leaders and workers, both fighting amongst each other during elections. This time the challenge is multifold due to competition coming from AAP and Owaisi’s AIMIM. Several seats dominated by minority-voters, such as Dariyapur, Bapunagar and Jamalpur, are at high risk this time. Experts feel that Congress may lose two of those seats, and similar seats.

AAP might attract sections of urban, semi-urban and rural votes from both BJP and Congress with or without converting them into a few seats. The swing will harm Congress more than the BJP because of the earlier winning margins, where BJP is far ahead of Congress.

As an active youth in Gujarat, I often get stuck in a dilemma! Should I act for the betterment of a corrupt and incompetent State apparatus, or, should I act to change the corrupt and incompetent representatives of my own constituency? Should I act to reform our democracy from the top, or, from the bottom? This remains a question.

Sukesh Chandrashekhar letter

Ready To Be Hanged: Sukesh Chandrashekhar Writes Another Letter

Releasing another letter, Jailed conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar, who is facing several cases of corruption under the Prevention of Corruption Act and Money Laundering Act alleged that he was ready to be hanged if any of the issues he has raised to Delhi LG turned out to be wrong.

In his press letter provided by his lawyer, Sukesh said, “(Delhi CM) Kejriwal Ji, if any of my raised issues to Delhi LG turn out to be wrong as you and your associates said, I am ready to be hanged. But if the complaint is proven true, you will resign and retire from politics for good.”
He also alleged that Aam Adami Party’s Satyendar Jain asked him to pay money to the party for the Goa and Punjab elections.

“I kept quiet and ignored everything but due to your constant threats and pressure through the Jail administration and Mr. Jain asking me to give funds during Punjab and Goa polls, brazenly even though I was undergoing investigation,” Sukesh wrote.

Rejecting the AAP’s allegations that he was lying, Sukesh Chandrasekar said if he was lying then why the jail administration was pressurizing him or being coerced to withdraw his earlier complaint?

“Kejriwal Ji why was Mr. Jain constantly asking me to withdraw the complaint filed in HC against former DG Sandeep Goel and the Jail administration? Why was I constantly threatened apart from asking me to give more funds for your election Campaigns? Why afraid of enquiry? What are you scared off if you are truthful?” he said in his letter.

Chandrashekar rejected the allegations of AAP leaders that he was trying to malign the image of the party and its leaders at the behest of the BJP ahead of the Delhi MCD elections.

“Kejriwalji doesn’t keep saying all this is being done because of elections, let me tell you something and give to a piece of advice. You know me very well. You and Mr. Jain are among the few people, who know me very well so, don’t hallucinate that won’t give evidence against all that I have said or won’t testify. I will give every single thing that I have, which you know very well, as your mask has to be removed in open. Please Kejriwalji don’t daydream about winning elections as people are seeing everything, your Drama won’t work anymore, your karma, your lies, you will be defeated badly for sure,” he further wrote.

Earlier on Monday, he wrote another letter to Delhi LG Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena requesting the CBI probe against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

In his latest letter to Delhi LG, Chandrashekhar wrote, “I request you to direct an urgent CBI investigation and allow me to file FIR as the pressure is getting too much and any undue event may take place before the truth about AAP is exposed,” he wrote.

Alleging that he is being threatened by AAP leader Satyendar Jain and ex-DG (Prisons) of Tihar jail after his complaint to the Delhi L-G went public, he said, “After my last application was released on media, from last two days there has been a severe threat that I have been receiving from the jail administration on behalf of Mr. Satyendar Jain and DG prison Sandeep Goel.” (ANI)

BJP On Chandrasekhar's Letter

Kejriwal Is Guru Of Thugs: BJP On Chandrasekhar’s Letter

Amid the row over conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar’s letter mentioning Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of receiving money, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia on Saturday launched a scathing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief attributing him as the “guru of all thugs”.

Addressing a press conference, Bhatia said, “Arvind Kejriwal is the guru of all the thugs. There is no friend whom Arvind Kejriwal has not cheated. The sins and misdeeds of Arvind Kejriwal were exposed by the letter of misdeeds by the letter from Sukesh Chandrasekhar.”
“The letter says the way Arvind Kejriwal takes Rs 50 crore from the great thugs and discusses sending such persons against whom there are many criminal cases to Rajya Sabha. Today, the role of three people becomes clear in this, the first is the biggest thug and kingpin Arvind Kejriwal, the second is Satyendra Jain, third is Kailash Gehlot,” he added.

Bhatia said according to the letter, Kejriwal told Sukesh Chandrashekhar that he had given Rs 50 crores and asked him to bring 20-30 more businessmen like him and gave a target of Rs 500-600 crore.

The BJP leader said that Kejriwal’s promise of clean Delhi has failed and people in the national capital are suffering from severe air quality.

Attacking Kejriwal, BJP MP Gautam Gambhir said, “The biggest thug is not the one who is sitting in jail but the one who is sitting on the chair of Delhi and cheating the entire Delhi and the people of the country. He has already made Delhi dirty. Now he wants to make Rajya Sabha dirty. Delhi has neither clean water to drink nor clean air to breathe.”

In a letter that has been confirmed by his lawyer, Sukesh, who is currently lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail and facing several cases of corruption under the Prevention of Corruption Act and Money Laundering Act, alleged, “Delhi Minister Satyendar Jain and ex-Tihar DG are threatening me after my complaint to Delhi’s LG went public”.

Launching a scathing attack on Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Sukesh fired questions at him.

“Kejriwal Ji why you forced me to bring 20-30 individuals to contribute Rs 500 crore to the party in return for seats,” he claimed.

Sukesh further asked why did the Delhi Chief Minister receive Rs 50 crore from him and offered him a Rajya Sabha seat.

“Kejriwal Ji, I am the country’s biggest thus according to you, then why on what basis you received Rs 50 crore from me and offered Rajya Sabha seat to me? So what does that make you?” the letter alleged.

He further asked the Delhi Chief Minister and jailed Minister Satyendar Jain to “stop threatening and intimidating” him through the jail administration and said that nothing will stop him from seeking a detailed CBI probe.

“Kejriwal ji and Satyendar Jain ji, stop threatening and intimidating me through the jail administration. Nothing will stop me from moving ahead and seeking a detailed CBI probe,” the letter stated.

“After my arrest in the year 2017, I was imprisoned in Tihar Jail and Satyendra Jain visited me several times. The secretary had asked me to give Rs 2 crore per month as protection money,” Chandrashekhar stated in his letter. (ANI)

Manish Sisodia

Sisodia Claims Scared Of Losing Polls, BJP Arrested His PA

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Saturday said the BJP is so afraid of losing elections that they raided his house and when they did not find anything, the ED raided his personal assistant’s house and when they did not find anything there too, they arrested him.

“They got my house raided based on false FIR, searched bank lockers, checked in my village but found nothing against me. Today, they conducted a raid at my PA’s house and when they didn’t find anything, they arrested him. BJP people! So much fear of losing the election,” he tweeted. (translated from Hindi)
Earlier on October 17, Sisodia was summoned to the CBI headquarters in the national capital where he was quizzed for nine hours.

While speaking to the media after the summon at his residence, Sisodia alleged that the case against him was intended not to probe any scam but to “make Operation Lotus successful in Delhi”.

“I was asked inside the CBI office to leave (AAP), or else such cases will keep getting registered against me. I was told ‘Satyendar Jain ke upar konse sachhe cases hain?’…I said I won’t leave AAP for BJP. They said they’ll make me CM,” he alleged.

However, the CBI refuted all such allegations and said that the examination was carried out in a “professional and legal manner”. It affirmed that the investigation will continue as per the law.

In August, the enforcement agencies conducted searches on Sisodia’s official residence among several other places in connection with the alleged corruption in the implementation of Delhi’s excise policy.

Sisodia, who is in charge of the excise department, has been under the scanner for alleged deliberate and gross procedural lapses which provided undue benefits to the tender process for liquor licencees for the year 2021-22.

Other accused are Manoj Rai, a former employee of Pernod Ricard; Amandeep Dhal, director of Brindco Sales; director of Buddy Retail Amit Arora, and Dinesh Arora; authorised signatories of Mahadev Liquors Sunny Marwah, Arun Ramchandra Pillai and Arjun Pandey.

The ED and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had alleged that irregularities were committed while modifying the Excise Policy and undue favours were extended to licence holders, the licence fee was waived or reduced and the L-1 licence was extended without the competent authority’s approval. The beneficiaries diverted “illegal” gains to the accused officials and made false entries in their books of account to evade detection.

This allegedly caused a loss of Rs 144.36 crore to the exchequer, said the FIR, which has been instituted on a reference from the Union Home Ministry following a recommendation from Delhi Lieutenant-Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena. (ANI)

Delhi: AQI Severe; Noida Records 529 AQI, Gurugram At 478

The air quality in Delhi continued to remain in the ‘severe’ category on Saturday, for the third day in a row, even though a slight improvement was noted in the Air Quality Index (AQI) of the national capital, which stood at 431 this morning.

On Friday during the corresponding morning period, the AQI of the capital city was recorded at 472.
Also, areas in the national capital region (NCR) area – Noida and Gurugram at 7 am this morning recorded an AQI of 529 and 478 respectively both in the highly toxic ‘severe’.

Dhirpur in West Delhi recorded an AQI of 534.

On Friday, SAFAR (System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research) said that stubble-burning accounted for 34 percent to Delhi’s particulate matter (PM) 2.5 pollution.

Air Quality Index from 0 to 100 is considered good, while from 100 to 200 it is moderate, from 200 to 300 it is poor, and from 300 to 400 it is said to be very poor and from 400 to 500 or above it is considered as severe.

People of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) complained of choking and ‘eye burning’ due to smog and air pollution leaving people gasping for breath.

Earlier on Friday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal along with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann held a press conference and urged the central government to come forward and lead measures to check severe smog in the national capital region.

Kejriwal and Mann said that the AAP governments are in Punjab and Delhi. This is not the time to raise fingers or abuse each other. If they say, Kejriwal is responsible and we say they are responsible, this will not solve the problem of smog in NCR, they added.

“We do not want to play blame game, we are responsible (for smog in NCR)”, they added.

CM Kejriwal announced that primary schools in Delhi would be closed from November 5.

Besides, the outdoor activity of students of the above fifth standard has been banned.

The Delhi government is also mulling implementing the odd-even norms for plying of vehicles in Delhi to contain the pollution caused by vehicular emission, he added.

However, the forecast predicts that the condition of air quality in Delhi and nearby regions will continue to deteriorate further and expects improvement from November 5.

“Air quality is likely to remain within ‘Severe’ today and likely to improve tomorrow to ‘lower end of Severe’ and from 5th onwards air quality is likely to improve further to ‘Very poor’ due to upper-level wind reversal that prevents inflow of stubble-related pollutants. Higher surface wind speed on 5th Nov is likely to disperse pollutants,” said a press release. (ANI)

Stubble burning Punjab incident

Punjab Farmers Hit Out At Govt Over Stubble Management

Local farmers in Punjab’s Bathinda district expressed their dissatisfaction over Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann-led state government’s failure to find an alternative to the stubble burning problem.

Local Villagers of Punjab’s Bhatinda district said, “If any officials come to stop us from burning the residue on the farm, they will be held hostage, the government can impose as many fines on them but we will not pay the fine.”
Lashing out at the government’s poor uptake to obviate the problem of stubble burning, the local farmers said, “They are compelled to set the stubble on fire every year. It is not their hobby to do all this. Farmers and their families get affected due to the stubble smoke first of all.”

They further said that the government sees only the smoke of stubble.

They also said that the government has not provided machines to farmers yet for which they had deposited money.

“Lakhs of rupees have been deposited for the machines for the last 1 year but the government is not giving the machines. Then, where should the farmer go and if the farmers do not set the stubble on fire, what will they do, how will the next crop be sown,” farmers said.

Earlier, Gaurav Bhatia also attacked AAP over 30 per cent increase in the cases of stubble burning in Punjab. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi is providing funds to the states without any discrimination and rising above party politics. The reports also prove that Punjab was given the maximum amount of Rs 1,300 crore and Haryana Rs 693 crore for stubble disposal,” Bhatia said.

“Still, on the other hand, 7,648 cases of stubble burning were reported in Punjab during the year 2021-22, which increased to 10,214 in the year 2022-23. Thus, there was an increase of 33 per cent in the incidence of stubble burning in Punjab,” Gaurav Bhatia said further.

Earlier, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar claimed that the cases of stubble burning in Haryana are not even 10 per cent of that in Punjab.

Notably, stubble burning had turned worse across Punjab, giving no hope of improvement in Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) as the capital gasps for clean air.

Increasing incidents of stubble burning in Punjab this year have become a matter of concern with the Union Environment Ministry pointing out that the AQI is likely to deteriorate sharply as only about 45-50 per cent of sown area in the state had been harvested till October 24.

Sources in the Environment Ministry had told ANI that the contribution of stubble burning to the adverse air quality in Delhi and the National Capital Region has been increasing sharply and is about 18-20 per cent currently with the trend only likely to increase further.

As per the Standard Protocol developed by ISRO for Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), for the period September 15, 2022, to October 26, 2022, total paddy residue burning events reported in Punjab were 7,036 compared to 6,463 for the same period during the last year.

CAQM further stated that about 70 per cent of farm fires during the current paddy harvesting season were reported only from six districts namely Amritsar, Firozpur, Gurdaspur, Kapurthala, Patiala, and Tarn Taran.

These districts account for 4,899 cases against a total of 7,036 incidents in Punjab. These traditional six hotspot districts also accounted for about 65 per cent of the total burning incidents during the last year for the same period. Out of a total of 7,036 reported cases, 4,315 stubble-burning incidences were reported during the last six days alone i.e., about 61 per cent.

As per the Standard ISRO Protocol, for the period of September 15 – October 28 this year, a total of 10,214 paddy residue burning events have been reported in Punjab compared to 7,648 for the same period during the last year, which is a significant increase of about 33.5 per cent.

Out of the total 10,214 reported cases, 7,100 stubble-burning incidents were reported in the last 7 days alone which is about 69 per cent, added the official. (ANI)

AQI Delhi

Delhi Wakes Up To Thick Smog, AQI Dips To Severe

Delhiites woke up on Thursday to a thick envelope of smog as air quality in the national capital and in adjoining regions, dipped into severe category again.

The Air Quality Index (AQI) in the national capital at 8 am was at 364 (in the ‘Very Poor’ category) and at 7 am the recorded AQI stood at 408 (‘Severe’). Unfavorable meteorological conditions with slower wind speed and sudden spikes in farm fire incidents are attributed to the dip in air quality.
An AQI between 401 and 500 is categorized as severe.

Noida, which is part of the national capital region, slipped to an AQI of 393, in the ‘very poor category, while Gurugram’s AQI stood at 318 and continued to remain in the ‘very poor category, as per data released by SAFAR (System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research) India.

An AQI range between 0 to 100 is considered good, while from 100 to 200 it is termed moderate and from 200 to 300 it is poor. AQI ranging from 300 to 400 is said to be very poor.

North Delhi Air Quality recorded the poorest as almost all the stations in the region displayed AQI above 400.

Most of the stations in the capital have an AQI above 300 with the exceptions of a few like Mandir Marg in central Delhi.

According to data by SAFAR, Dhirpur in Model Town plunged to an AQI of the 457-a level at which even healthy people can fall ill.

The AQI near IGI Airport (T3) also stood in the ‘Very Poor’ category today at 346. On Wednesday, the AQI in the area was recorded at 350.

With air pollution worsening in the national capital, Delhi authorities halted all construction work and demolition activities till further orders.

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has urged the Delhi government to shut schools till air quality improves. (ANI)

Delhi Air Quality

Delhi Govt Shifts Blame On People Over Worsening Air Quality

“People” of Delhi are responsible for the bad air quality of the national capital, said Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai on Wednesday.

“I appeal to people if possible work from home and avoid taking out private vehicles. 50% of the pollution is from vehicles. People shouldn’t burst crackers,” Rai told reporters here.
The air quality in the national capital continued to remain in the ‘very poor category on Wednesday morning as the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) of the city stood at 354.

Noida, which is part of the national capital region, slipped to an AQI of 406 and continued to remain in the ‘severe’ category, while Gurugram’s AQI stood at 346 and continued to stay in the ‘very poor category, as per data released by SAFAR (System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research) India.

The deteriorating air quality in the Delhi NCR region remains a problem around this time of the year. It also becomes a contentious issue with various state governments blaming each other for what has now become an annual problem.

The burning of agricultural waste in Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, according to analysts, is one of the primary reasons for the rising air pollution in the region.

“Stubble burning in Punjab is happening due to Centre as they didn’t support Punjab govt, farmers to stop it” added Gopal Rai, the Environment Minister in the AAP-led Delhi government.

Air Quality Index from 0 to 100 is considered good, while from 100 to 200 it is moderate, from 200 to 300 it is poor, and from 300 to 400 it is said to be very poor and from 400 to 500 or above it is considered as severe.

“I request the UP and Haryana governments to form a regional special task force to reduce air pollution in areas adjoining Delhi like Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, and Noida. The pollution problem is not the state’s problem. It happens due to the air system that develops” Rai said while urging the governments of BJP-led governments of the states adjoining Delhi.

Meanwhile, last week, Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and adjoining areas intensified efforts to ensure enforcement and compliance with its directions after the air quality of the national capital plunged to the “severe” category on Friday.

Environmentalist Vimlendu Jha told ANI that severe category AQI is very dangerous for health and it affects even healthy people and seriously impacts those with existing diseases.

“In such circumstances, the school should be closed and outdoor movement should be prohibited because severe category AQI impacts all aspects of life,” Jha said.

As per the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, the commission has been informing and sensitizing all stakeholders (industrial houses, commercial establishments, construction agencies, State Govt/ GNCTD agencies, ULBs in NCR, and the public at large) about the preventive, mitigative and restrictive actions required to be taken under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).

Stage-I and Stage II of the revised GRAP were invoked by the Commission on October 5 and October 19 respectively.

“Besides GRAP and a comprehensive “Policy to curb air pollution in NCR”, various statutory directions, advisories and orders including have been issued by the Commission from time to time for appropriate measures by various agencies concerned,” the Ministry had said in a statement. (ANI)

Kejriwal To Give Rs 5000 Monthly To Workers Affected Due To Construction Ban

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has directed the labour minister of the national capital Manish Sisodia to grant monthly financial assistance to each construction worker who has been affected because of paused construction activities.

“Construction activities have been stopped across Delhi in view of pollution. I have directed Labour Minister, Sh Manish Sisodia, to give Rs 5000 pm as financial support to each construction worker during this period, when construction activities are not permitted,” Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said in a tweet on Wednesday.

Previously, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) in NCR and adjoining areas on October 30 (Saturday) had imposed a ban on activities related to construction work in the wake of the deteriorating air quality of the National Capital Region.

The Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) sub-committee had decided to implement Stage III of GRAP in the entire NCR in a move to prevent any further deterioration of air quality on Saturday.

The air quality in the national capital continued to remain in the ‘very poor’ category on Wednesday morning as the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) of the city stood at 354.

Noida, which is a part of the national capital region, slipped to an AQI of 406, and remained in the ‘severe’ category, while Gurugram’s AQI stood at 346 and at the ‘very poor category, as per the data released by System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR) India earlier this morning.

Air Quality Index from 0 to 100 is considered as good, while from 100 to 200 it is moderate, from 200 to 300 it is poor, and from 300 to 400 it is said to be very poor and from 400 too 500 or above it is considered as severe.

A little less poor air quality in Delhi’s satellite cities gave some respite to the people, but it is only a relative term from the previous day.

While comprehensively reviewing the overall air quality parameters during Saturday’s emergency meeting of CAQM, the Commission noted that due to unfavorable meteorological conditions with slower wind speed and sudden spike in farm fire incidents, it is considered necessary to implement Stage III of GRAP with immediate effect in the entire NCR.

The CAQM further noted that the winds are forecasted to be CALM in the coming days and the wind direction is likely to change course frequently. Thus, there is a high likelihood of the pollutants getting trapped in the region and not getting dispersed effectively.

Further, the CAQM appealed to the citizens of NCR to cooperate in implementing GRAP and follow the steps mentioned in the Citizen Charter under GARP. Apart from that, a 9-point action plan as per Stage III of GRAP was made applicable in the entire NCR.

The 9-point action plan includes steps to be implemented/ ensured by different agencies and Pollution Control Boards of NCR and DPCC, as per the official statement. (ANI)

Delhi: BJP’s NaMo Cyber Warriors To Take On AAP In MCD Polls

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will be introducing NaMo Cyber Yoddha (NCY), an online volunteer campaign-cum-initiative ahead of the civic polls in Delhi.
According to BJP, NCY will be a platform for those who are not necessarily into politics but want to raise their voice on important issues. It will be volunteer-driven. Around 50,000 NaMo cyber warriors will be galvanized over a period of one month.

The party said thousands of people are influenced by the ideology of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his mission of service, development and ‘sabka saath’.

Though BJP is preparing to launch the NaMo Cyber Yoddha campaign, the most important question is whether NCY helps the party to garner votes in its favor in MCD elections.

BJP national spokesperson and in-charge of Delhi’s social media and digital campaign Shehzad Poonawalla said, “NaMo Cyber Yoddha is an army of motivated volunteers that will help to expose the lies and wrongdoings of AAP government in Delhi and counter their campaign with facts and truth.”

Poonawalla further said NCY will be launched soon. Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta, Leader of Opposition in Delhi Legislative Assembly Rambir Bidhuri, Chief of Election Management Campaign Ashish Sood, Shahzad Poonawalla, and BJP MPs from Delhi will be present at the launch event.

In the run of municipal elections in Delhi, BJP and AAP have come face to face.

BJP has been accusing the Arvind Kejriwal government of being corrupt. BJP alleged that in the last 8 years, the AAP government has completely failed on every front and has been the most corrupt government in the history of Delhi.

“From liquor to hawala and bus to electricity subsidy – AAP is a government of scams. AAP runs propaganda and advertisement to hide its failures. There has been a 420 percent increase in spending. People understood the reality of their ‘world-class model’,” said Poonawalla.

The BJP leader said AAP claims a world-class education model but cannot name 10 new colleges.

“They cannot show the 7 new hospitals they were going to build. Yamuna river is getting polluted continuously and as a result, we have been denied the opportunity to perform Chhath puja on its ghats,” he said.

Poonawalla said the air quality in Delhi has been deteriorating but no action has been taken on stubble burning or pollution other than blaming Diwali and firecrackers.

Attacking the AAP further, BJP MP Manoj Tiwari said that “Various AAP leaders have targeted the Hindu faith. Hundreds of crores rupees have been spent on salaries of Waqfs and Imams to please a vote bank but no money spent on ASHA workers, teachers, and free coaching of SC/ST/OBC students.”

Now amid these allegations and counter-allegation politics, BJP’s Namo Cyber Yoddha campaign is believed to make the Delhi Municipal Corporation election more interesting.

Earlier this month, the total number of civic body polls’ wards in the national capital reduced from 272 to 250 following a notification issued by the Ministry of Home on Tuesday pertaining to the redrawing of wards of the Delhi civic body- Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

After the ‘delimitation’ of MCD wards by the central government, the total number of wards in the MCD will amount to 250 of which 42 are decided to be reserved.

Now after the final delimitation order is issued, elections are expected soon.

It is to be noted that before the amalgamation of corporations, there were a total of 272 wards comprising the North Delhi Municipal Corporation, South Delhi Municipal Corporation, and East Delhi Municipal Corporation. North Delhi Municipal Corporation and South Delhi Municipal Corporation had 104 wards each, while East Delhi Municipal Corporation had 64 wards. But after the delimitation, now the number of wards has been reduced to 250.

Notably, AAP Delhi raised concerns that there is no equal distribution of population in the delimitation of wards. AAP leaders had also lodged their objection by meeting the state election officials.

Earlier, the Delhi Congress had questioned the reduction of wards from 272 to 250. The Delhi Congress had also alleged a conspiracy to reduce the representation of the Dalit community in this regard, as the reserved seats have been reduced from 46 to 42. (ANI)
