Sonia Pays Tributes On Former PM’s Birth Anniv

Congress leader Sonia Gandhi on Sunday paid tributes to the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her birth anniversary and said that she was a valiant crusader who fought for the causes of the people.

Sonia Gandhi highlighted Indira Gandhi’s impactful contributions, both in her political career and in her dedication to pro-poor policies and global efforts against hunger.

Addressing the felicitation ceremony of the Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament, and Development in New Delhi, Sonia Gandhi said, “Be it her political career where she challenged orthodoxy to introduce equity or pro-poor policy, be it a fight to defeat hunger in an international environment that disliked self-respecting sovereign states, be it her extraordinary quality to quell divisive tendencies in India.”

“Be it a fight to defeat hunger in an international environment that disliked self-respecting sovereign states, be it her unparallel role in the creation of a new nation to honour people’s aspirations, she was a valiant crusader of people’s causes,” she added.

Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson further stated that Indira Gandhi played a crucial role in the development of the public health sector.

“Under her stewardship, India also saw the enactment of the National Health Policy in 1983 that played the foundation for more accessible health systems. It brought together promotive preventive and curative health services and a vital expansion of rural health outreach,” she said.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday paid tributes to Indira Gandhi on her 106th birth anniversary.

Born on November 19, 1917, Indira Gandhi left an indelible mark in national politics and served as the third Prime Minister from 1966 to 1977 and again from 1980 until her assassination on October 31, 1984.

The country’s first, and, to date, only female prime minister, she emerged as a central figure in Indian politics as the leader of the Congress.

The daughter of Jawaharlal Nehru, the first prime minister of independent India, Indira was succeded in the country’s highest office by her son Rajiv Gandhi.

Her combined tenure of 15 years and 350 days made her the second-longest-serving PM after her father. (ANI)

For the first time ever, the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is going to be celebrated inside Agra Fort.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde will attend the celebrations to mark the 391st birth anniversary of the great Maratha warrior on Sunday. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will attend the event virtually.
Shivaji Maharaj was born on February 19, 1630, at Shivneri Fort in Pune. The renowned Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s birthday is commemorated during the festival of Jayanti. The day’s major objective is to honour the great warrior’s contribution to the restoration of the Maratha Empire and to recognize his extensive legacy.

In 1674, he laid the foundation of the Maratha Empire in western India after fighting fiercely with the Mughals in 1670.

In addition to creating a well-organized administrative system, Shivaji Maharaj established a broad civil code for the local populace.

Notably, Jyotirao Govindrao Phule, popularly known as Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, established the Shiv Jayanti celebration in 1870, and since then, people have been celebrating the day with great fervour. (ANI)

Modi Inaugurates Dayanand Saraswati’s 200th Birth Anniv Celeb

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the year-long celebrations commemorating the 200th birth anniversary of Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati, at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in the national capital on Sunday.

Prime Minister performed puja and yagna on the occasion.

Union Ministers G Kishan Reddy, Arjun Ram Meghwal and Meenakashi Lekhi were also present at the occasion.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati, born on February 12, 1824, was a social reformer who founded Arya Samaj in 1875 to counter the prevalent social inequities.

Arya Samaj has played a key role in the cultural and social awakening of the country through its emphasis on social reforms and education.

The government has been committed to celebrating the social reformers and important personalities, especially those whose contributions were not given their due yet on a pan-India scale.

From declaring the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Muda as Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas to participating in a programme commemorating Sri Aurobindo’s 150th birth anniversary, Prime Minister Modi has been leading such initiatives from the front. (ANI)

Birsa Munda Was Carrier Of Our Spiritual And Cultural Energy: Modi

Extending greetings on the occasion of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the nation is moving with the energy of ‘Panch Praan’ to realize the dreams of Bhagwan Birsa Munda and crores of Janjatiya braveheart.

“Expressing pride in the tribal heritage of the country through Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas and resolution for the development of the Adivasi community is part of that energy”, PM said.
PM Modi paid tributes to Bhagwan Birsa Munda and said that 15th November is a day to celebrate Adivasi tradition.

“I consider this the fortune of my government that it got the opportunity to declare 15th November (birth anniversary of Birsa Munda) as Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas. He was not only the hero of our political independence but also the conductor of our spiritual and cultural energy,” PM Modi said in his message on the occasion.

Recalling, the contribution of the tribal community in the freedom struggle, PM remembered Damin Sangram led by Tilak Manjhi, the Larka movement under Budhu Bhagat, Sidhu-Kanhu Kranti, Tana Bhagat Movement, Vegda Bhil Movement, Naikda Movement, Sant Joriya Parmeshwar and Roop Singh Nayak, Limdi Dahod battle, Govind Guru Ji of Mangarh and Rampa movement under Alluri Sitaram Raju.

The Prime Minister further listed measures to acknowledge and celebrate the tribal contribution. he talked about the tribal museums in various parts of the country and schemes like Jan Dhan, Gobardhan, Van Dhan, Self-help Groups, Swachh Bharat, PM Awas Yojna, Matrutva Vandana Yojana, Gramin Sadak Yojan, Mobile connectivity, Eklavya Schools, MSP for up to 90 percent forest products, Sickle-cell Anemia, tribal research institutes, free corona vaccine, and Mission Indradhanush that have benefitted the tribal community a great deal.

The Prime Minister highlighted the valour, community life, and inclusion of the Adivasi Samaj.

“India has to give shape to its future by learning from this grand legacy. I am sure that Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas will become an opportunity and medium for this”, the Prime Minister concluded.

The birth anniversary of Birsa Munda, the iconic tribal leader who led a rebellion against the British, is being celebrated as Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas.

Calling Birsa Munda “great son of the country”, PM Modi said, “Today, the entire country is celebrating the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda with devotion and respect. I respectfully bow before the great son, the great revolutionary of the country, Bhagwan Birsa Munda.”

Birsa Munda, who belonged to the Munda tribe, was born on November 15 in 1875.

During British rule in the late 19th century, he spearheaded an Indian tribal religious Millenarian movement across the tribal belt of modern-day Bihar and Jharkhand.

The birth anniversary of Birsa Munda coincides with the Jharkhand Foundation Day. (ANI)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday paid homage to the father of the Nation Mahatama Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversary.

PM Modi also shared glimpses of Shastri’s gallery in the Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya in Delhi and urged people to visit the museum.
Paying homage to Mahatma Gandhi on his 153rd birth anniversary, PM Modi tweeted, “This Gandhi Jayanti is, even more, special because India marks Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.” Maybe I will always live up to Bapu’s ideals. I also urge you to purchase Khadi and handicrafts products as a tribute to Gandhi Ji. “

“Lal Bahadur Shastri Ji is admired all across India for his simplicity and decisiveness. His tough leadership at a very crucial time in our history will always be remembered. Tributes to him on his Jayanti,” he added.

Born on October 2, 1869, in Porbandar town of Gujarat, Mahatma Gandhi or Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi adopted a non-violent resistance and was at the forefront of the freedom struggle against colonial British rule.

This led to India finally achieving its independence in 1947. Fondly known as Bapu, his unwavering belief in ‘Swaraj’ (self-governance) and ‘Ahimsa’ (non-violence) won him accolades across the world.

Globally, Gandhi’s birth anniversary is celebrated as the International Day of Non-Violence. Several events are held in India and across the world to mark the occasion.

Born in Uttar Pradesh in 1904, Lal Bahadur Shastri was the second Prime Minister of India and served from 1964 to 1966. He died in Tashkent on January 11, 1966, at the age of 61, soon after signing the Tashkent Pact with Pakistan. (ANI)
