Emergency India

Emergency Was A ‘Dark Period’ For India: Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that the 1975 Emergency, imposed by the then Indira Gandhi-led Central government was a “dark period” in Indian history adding that millions opposed it with all their might.

” India is the mother of democracy. We consider our democratic ideals as paramount, we consider our Constitution as Supreme… therefore, we can never forget June the 25th. This is the very day when Emergency was imposed on our country. It was a dark period in the history of India. Lakhs of people opposed the emergency with full might. Many books have been written on these atrocities; the punishment meted out by the police and administration. The supporters of democracy were tortured so much during that time that even today, their mind shudders,” PM Modi said during the 102nd episode of his monthly radio address ‘Mann Ki Baat’.
“Today when we are celebrating the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav we must also have a glance at such crimes which endanger the freedom of the country. This will make it easier for today’s young generation to understand the meaning and significance of democracy,” PM Modi added.

PM Modi also elaborated on the upcoming Rath Yatra in Odisha.

“June 20 is the day of the historic Rath Yatra. Rath Yatra has a unique identity all over the world. Lord Jagannath’s Rath Yatra is taken out with great pomp in different states of the country,” PM Modi said.

“The Rath Yatra in Puri, Odisha is wonderful in itself. When I was in Gujarat, I used to get the opportunity to attend the huge Rath Yatra in Ahmedabad,” he added.

Lauding a Kerala native for using a Japanese technique ‘Miyawaki’ in the farming process, PM Modi said, “Japan’s technique, Miyawaki is a very good way to make an area green if the soil is not fertile. This technique is slowly and gradually seen in India also.”

“Teacher Raafi Ramnath from Kerala used this technique to create a mini forest called ‘Vidyavanam’ with over 115 varieties. Many students and people visit this Miyawaki forest. This technique is getting popular in the world and is being used in many countries. I appeal to all the people of the nation especially one who are living in the urban areas, to use this technique and learn more about this,” the Prime Minister further remarked.

Highlighting the development of the dairy sector in Jammu and Kashmir, PM Modi said, “The people of Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir have done a wonderful job. Farming has been done in Baramulla for a long time, but there used to be a shortage of milk. The people of Baramulla took this challenge as an opportunity. A large number of people started dairy work here, PM Modi said. (ANI)

Vizag Is Den Of Anti-Social Elements Under Jagan: Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday came out heavily against the Jagan Mohan Reddy-led Andhra Pradesh government alleging that the money sent by Centre to the state was “looted” by the cadre of YSRCP.

He also urged the people of the state to send more than 20 MPs in the Lok Sabha in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

Addressing a public meeting in Vishakhapatnam, organised to mark the completion of 9 years of the BJP-led central government under PM Modi, the Union Home Minister said, “In the last five years, PM Modi had sent 5 lakh crore for Andhra Pradesh. But did the state got developed? Where did that money go? It went to the corrupt cadre of CM Jagan.”

Shah further alleged that the state has become a “den of anti-social elements” under the YSRCP rule.

“This Vizag has become a den of anti-social elements under the rule of Jagan Mohan Reddy. The people from the ruling party are involved in many anti-social activities. The ruling party is involved in all kinds of scams, be it land scam, mining scam and even supply of illegal pharmaceutical drugs,” he said.

Shah added, “CM Jagan has stopped so low that he is putting his photos on rice meant for the poor. It is PM Modi who has been providing rice to AP’s poor. The government is claiming to be pro-farmer. However, Andhra Pradesh ranks number three in the suicides of farmers. Jagan Mohan Reddy should be ashamed of this”.

He further urged the people of Andhra Pradesh to elect more than 20 BJP MPs from the state.

“PM Modi has initiated the construction of a grand Vizag railway station at a cost of Rs 450 crores. The operation of Kurnool airport has also started. We want that in 2024, Modi Ji should become Prime minister again with the support of more than 20 BJP MPs from Andhra Pradesh,” Shah said. (ANI)

Annamalai on 2024 Election

Modi Will Return To Power in 2024 With Bigger Mandate: Annamalai

Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai on Sunday exuded confidence on his party’s prospects in next year’s Lok Sabha elections, saying that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will form a government with a bigger mandate in 2024.

Speaking to ANI, he said Union Home Minister Amit Shah had a fruitful visit to Tamil Nadu, as he took a lot of time out of his busy schedule to boost the party’s organisations in the state and addressed a public meeting in Vellore to encourage the cadre.
“…for 2024, we are very clear that PM Modi is going to come to power for a third time with a bigger mandate…We are very clear that Tamil Nadu will contribute in a big way to our victory as the state has reaped the benefits of development in the last 9 years under PM Modi and no other leader has truly represented our culture like he has. I keep saying that PM Modi is a Tamilian…nobody has taken an interest in the Tamil language and culture like he has He has revived the beauty of Tamil culture…,” said Annamalai.

Earlier, on Sunday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Tamil Nadu on a two-visit to four states and also addressed a public rally in Vellore.

Reacting to reports of Amit Shah “pitching for a Tamil PM in future”, he said, “…That was purely addressed to the workers of our party. The HM was very clear, he traced his own journey from 1982 as a booth president to our national president to a Home Minister now. He also traced the life of our PM…He said, from booth president to Prime Minister, all of you will keep climbing up the ranks. That is the beauty of this party.”

Hitting out at the previous Congress-led UPA regime at Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh later on Sunday, Union Home Minister said the “Manmohan government” did not have the courage to address the country’s internal security concerns, adding that the present dispensation, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has worked to make the country more secure.

Addressing a public meeting in Vishakhapatnam, organised to mark the completion of 9 years of the BJP-led central government under PM Modi, the Union Home Minister said, “During the UPA government, ‘Alia, Malia, Jamalia’ (any Tom, Dick and Harry) would cross over into India and unleash terror on our people. The Manmohan government did not have the courage to do anything against them. In its 9 years in power, the government under the leadership of PM Modi worked to ensure the internal security of the country.”

He said that within ten days of the Uri and Pulwama terror attacks, India, under the leadership of PM Modi, conducted a surgical strike and a precision air strike to give a befitting reply to the attackers across the border.

Shah was on a two-day visit to Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh that started on Saturday.

Shah’s event is part of the party’s month-long campaign covering all Lok Sabha constituencies to mark the completion of nine years of the central government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. (ANI)

Pankaja Munde on Love Jihad

Love Believes In No Barriers: Pankaja Munde On ‘Love Jihad’

Responding to a media query on ‘love jihad’, BJP leader Pankaja Munde said on Sunday it wasn’t on the agenda of the central government.

Addressing a press conference in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, Munde said, “…I believe love is love. Love believes in no barrier. If two people have come together purely out of love, it should be respected. However, if a woman is tricked into an interfaith marriage, it should be seen differently.”

To a specific question on ‘love jihad’ during the press conference, the senior BJP leader said it has never been an agenda for the central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“No such subject as ‘love jihad’ has even been on the agenda of the Modi government. The discussions are always centred on development and redevelopment. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s focus is to put the country on the road to development and progress in the next 25 years,” said Munde.

However, on May 16, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said his government took a serious view of ‘love jihad’, ‘religious conversion’ and promotion of ‘terrorist activities’ and won’t allow such practices in the state.

CM Chouhan made the remark while speaking to reporters on the recent action taken by the Madhya Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) against members associated with the radical Islamic organisation, Hizb-ut-Tahrir (HuT), in the state capital Bhopal.

“We are getting into the depth of the facts that have come to the fore in connection with the HuT members. What is clear is that we have taken the issue of love jihad, religious conversion and promotion of terrorist activities very seriously. I want to make it clear that neither love jihad nor the vicious cycle of religious conversion would be tolerated in the state,” CM Chouhan said earlier.

He added, “Earlier, too, we had destroyed SIMI’s (Students’ Islamic Movement of India) network in the state and will not tolerate such activities at any cost. The investigation into the arrest of HuT members is underway. Madhya Pradesh ATS is working along with the central agencies in this regard.”

Ahead of the Gujarat Assembly elections last year, the BJP had promised to bring a law against ‘love jihad’.

Meanwhile, underlining the key takeaways in 9 years of the central government under the leadership of PM Modi, Munde said on Sunday these years have been marked by all-round development and welfare policies. (ANI)

ARDOR 2.1, a restaurant located in Connaught Place, Delhi, presented the big-sized thali having 56 items, with the customer having the choice of opting for vegetarian and non-vegetarian food.

The owner of ARDOR 2.1 restaurant, Sumit Kalara, told ANI earlier, “I respect PM Modi-ji so much. He is the pride of our nation and we wanted to gift something unique on his birthday. So, we decided to launch this grand thali named ’56inch Modi Ji’ Thali. We want to gift him this thali and want him to come here and eat. But, due to security reasons, we can’t do that, so this is for all of his fans who love him a lot. Please come and enjoy this thali.” (ANI)

CEA Nageswaran on Indian Economy

Indian Economy Expected To Grow 6.5-7%: CEA Nageswaran

The Indian economy is expected to grow in a range of 6.5-7 per cent in the current financial year 2023-24 per cent, said Chief Economic Advisor Anantha Nageswaran.

The forecast was on the back of firm investments and rapid stride in digital transformation.

The CEA was speaking at the plenary session on ‘Mission USD 9 trillion Indian Economy by 2030’ organised by the industry body Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) as a part of industry interaction on ‘Building a Resilient Economy’ in Lucknow.

The Indian economy is in a state of autopilot and is bouncing back impressively after the pandemic, he said and hoped the 2022-23 GDP numbers could be revised upwards in the subsequent revisions.

As per the provisional estimates released by the National Statistical Office (NSO) recently, real GDP growth for 2022-23 stood at 7.2 per cent, higher than the 7 per cent projected.

Earlier, too, the CEA said he expected an upward revision in the 2022-23 GDP numbers going ahead.

Despite strong global headwinds and tighter domestic monetary policy tightening, various international agencies have forecasted India to be one of the fastest-growing economies in 2023-24, supported by robust growth in private consumption and sustained pick-up in private investment.

Sharing his optimism on the medium-term growth prospects of the Indian economy, Dr Nageswaran highlighted that the sound macroeconomic policies of the government, structural reforms such as GST, IBC etc, thrust on infrastructure and digitalisation have ensured that the Indian economy can grow for a longer period without running into the overheating situation.

“Between now and 2030, based on what we have done so far without even assuming that further reforms will be done, I can say that we have the potential to grow steadily between 6.5-7.0 per cent and if we add the additional reforms on skilling, factor market reforms among others, we can go up to 7.0-7.5 per cent and possibly even 8 per cent”, he further added.

According to the CEA, private consumption, which contributes close to 60 per cent to GDP, has surpassed the pre-pandemic trend in the third quarter of the last fiscal contributed by the release of pent-up demand and recovery in rural demand.

Going ahead, a lower inflation outlook due to easing commodity prices, and a good harvest will have a substantial impact on boosting consumption spending further.

On the sightings of green shoots of recovery in rural demand, the CEA highlighted that an increase in Minimum Support Price (MSP) for major crops and a rise in the MNREGA wage rate are expected to improve the financial security of rural households further and boost rural demand in the coming months.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday, approved the increase in Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for Kharif crops for the 2023-24 season. The increase was to the tune of 5-10 percent range. The government through its agencies procures crops from farmers from time to time at support prices. (ANI)

Manipur Violence Modi Silent

Jairam Questions Modi’s Silence on Manipur Violence

Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Wednesday lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his silence on the ethnic clashes in Manipur, questioning him for not visiting the Northeast state and trying to broker a truce between the feuding tribal communities.

“There appears to be no let-up in the violence that has engulfed Manipur for the past several weeks. The home minister visited the state belatedly, after a month since the violence erupted. Why is the Prime Minister still silent on the violence? Why doesn’t he visit the state and try to bring about a reconciliation between the warning (Kuki and Meitei) communities? Why can’t he even send an all-party delegation to Manipur?” said Ramesh.

Ethnic clashes and violence gripped Manipur on May 3, during a rally organised by the All Tribal Students Union (ATSU) to protest the Manipur High Court order asking the state government to consider including the Meitei community in the list of Scheduled Tribes (STs). In the waves of violence between the Kuki and Meitei communities that followed, 60 people lost their lives and several houses were set on fire.

The security advisor to the Manipur government, Kuldiep Singh, said last week that peace was returning to the state after the ethnic clashes and violence, and normality was being restored.

Singh said there had been no incident of violence or arson in Manipur in the last 24 hours.

On Sunday, the Centre constituted a three-member Commission of Inquiry, headed by former chief justice of the Gauhati High Court, Ajai Lamba, to investigate the incidents of violence in Manipur in early May.

The Commission was mandated to submit its report to the central government as soon as possible, and not later than six months from the date of its first sitting. (ANI)
