25 CRPF Jawans Suffer Food Poisoning In C’garh’s Dantewada

About 25 Central Reserve Police Force personnel were admitted to a hospital in Bacheli in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada due to food poisoning, an official said on Sunday.

The official informed that nearly 18 out of the 25 jawans were discharged from the NMDC Apollo Hospital after initial treatment while the rest were being treated further for their earlier medical history.
The incident took place on February 17 afternoon when some jawans of the 230 Battalion Nerli headquarter of Dantewada faced issues of vomiting after the meal.

“We received the information on February 17 that some of the jawans are facing issues like vomiting and food poisoning. We told them to get them admitted to the hospital. Nearly 25 jawans were admitted. Minor issues were there including vomiting. There was no major problem. Nearly 18 jawans were discharged on the second day,” Dr M S Haque, Chief Medical Officer, NMDC’s Apollo Hospital said.

“The rest of them are being treated but they cannot be said to have food poisoning. Some had their earlier medical history like blood pressure and platelets issues. Those with food poisoning (18 jawans) were kept under observation and were discharged,” he added. (ANI)

First Ever, Celebrations of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s Birth Anniv In Agra Fort

For the first time ever, the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is going to be celebrated inside Agra Fort.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde will attend the celebrations to mark the 391st birth anniversary of the great Maratha warrior on Sunday. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will attend the event virtually.
Shivaji Maharaj was born on February 19, 1630, at Shivneri Fort in Pune. The renowned Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s birthday is commemorated during the festival of Jayanti. The day’s major objective is to honour the great warrior’s contribution to the restoration of the Maratha Empire and to recognize his extensive legacy.

In 1674, he laid the foundation of the Maratha Empire in western India after fighting fiercely with the Mughals in 1670.

In addition to creating a well-organized administrative system, Shivaji Maharaj established a broad civil code for the local populace.

Notably, Jyotirao Govindrao Phule, popularly known as Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, established the Shiv Jayanti celebration in 1870, and since then, people have been celebrating the day with great fervour. (ANI)

Zeenat Opens Up About Making A Comeback

Zeenat Opens Up About Making A Comeback

Ever since she made her Instagram debut, veteran actress Zeenat Aman has been spilling the beans about her personal and professional life. On Sunday, the ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram’ actress opened up about whether she is making a comeback on the silver screen or not.

Taking to Instagram, Zeenat penned a long note, which read, “There’s been some speculation that my presence here is the precursor to my return to the silver screen. I am a notoriously private person, and I suppose this sudden sharing has set tongues wagging. The truth is that I have been in the public eye since I was 16-years-old, and have experienced the perils of being misquoted, taken out of context, censored, and gossiped about. Now as a septuagenarian I am enjoying the opportunity to reflect on my life and career in my own words. That too without any pressures from managers or studios or brands.”
https://www.instagram.com/p/Co1RElpIum1/

She added,” I am not, per se, planning a return to the silver screen, but nor am I closing that door. Creativity does not retire, and I would love to sink my teeth into a nuanced and impactful character. I’m of course quite aware that such roles for older women are few and far apart. Some days ago I read about the Annenberg Foundation study that analysed 1,000 Hollywood films released between 2007 and 2017. They found that less than 25% of the women on screen were over the age of 40. The numbers for the Indian film industry are unlikely to be much better.”

Zeenat shared that she is learning online lingo.

“So, in short, I nurture optimism not expectations. In the meanwhile, my sons are helping me understand online lingo. I just learnt what a “thirst trap” is!,” she continued.

On Friday, Zeenat opened up about embracing grey hair. She also spoke about the stereotypical notion of society and the standards set by them for a woman’s beauty.

She shared a picture clicked by her son Zahaan Khan. She is sitting in a garden area. While her back is to the camera, the picture is noticeable for her ‘silver bob’ which she discussed in her caption.

“As women, we are told that our social worth lies in youth and physical beauty. If not explicitly, then in a thousand subliminal ways. This is especially true for the entertainment industry. In general, as we age, men are bequeathed gravitas but women are at best offered sympathy,” she wrote.

Zeenat revealed that she “was initially reluctant to stop dyeing my hair, and was strongly advised against it. Some well wishers even said it would negatively impact my work opportunities.”

“It was only once I contemplated upon my own hesitations that I realised I really don’t care to buttress our society’s idolisation of youth. Being young is wonderful, but so is being old. It thrills me to see more and more silver-haired women (of all ages) challenge the status quo,” she added.

Zeenat is best known for featuring in films such as ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram’, ‘Don’, ‘Yaadon ki Baraat’, ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna’, ‘Qurbani, Dostana’, ‘Dharam Veer’, among others. (ANI)

India Beat Australia By Six Wicket In 2nd Test Match

India Beat Australia By Six Wicket In 2nd Test Match

After bowlers skittled out visitors for 113, Rohit Sharma, Srikar Bharat and Cheteshwar Pujara held their ground to help India register an emphatic 6-wicket victory against Australia in the second Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy here at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Sunday.

India retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy by taking a 2-0 lead in the four-match series. Pujara (31) and Bharat (23) played till the end to guide their team home. For India, Ravindra Jadeja ripped through Australia with seven for 42.
India struggled to chase down 115 at times, but the score was never particularly dangerous because of Pujara’s unbeaten 31, who carried the home team to victory.

Resuming their innings at 14/1, India skipper Rohit Sharma in red-hot form slammed Australian bowlers all around the ground as he gathered 12 runs off Nathan Lyon’s over.

However, Rohit’s blistering stint at the crease came to an end as he was run out after scoring 31 runs off 20 deliveries.

Virat Kohli then came out to bat at the crease with Cheteshwar Pujara. As Pujara kept piling singles at regular intervals, Kohli holding one end tight became the fastest batter to score 25,000 international runs.

The former India captain kept slamming boundaries to ease some pressure from the Indian team.

Nathan Lyon delivered a short ball but Virat Kohli beautifully played it toward the backward square leg fence for an excellent four in the 16th over of the innings.

Todd Murphy then provided his team with a big breakthrough as he removed a dangerous batter Kohli for 20 runs.

The right-handed batter Shreyas Iyer then came out to bat and slammed two beautiful big shots before losing his wicket to Lyon for 12 off 10. Iyer’s wicket invited right-handed batter Srikar Bharat to the crease.

Bharat shifted the gears as he kept piling runs by slamming Australian bowlers for boundaries. After 25 over, India needed just 10 runs to win. Playing his landmark 100th Test, Pujara slammed an excellent four off Murphy’s delivery to take India home with 6 wickets against Australia in the 2nd Test.

Earlier, a scintillating show by spin twins Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, including a seven-for by the latter, saw Australia being skittled out for 113 in their second innings of the ongoing second test at Delhi’s Ferozshah Kotla on Sunday, setting the hosts a target of 115 runs.

At lunch, India’s score read 14/1, with skipper Rohit Sharma (12) and Cheteshwar Pujara (1) at the crease.

Australia resumed their innings at 61/1, with Travis Head 39, Marnus Labuschagne 16 seeking to build on the visitors’ lead.

Ashwin struck for the hosts early in the session, dismissing a dangerous Head for 43 off 46 balls and reducing Australia to 65/2. The duo of Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne then took the innings forward, adding 20 more runs before Ashwin sent back Smith for just 9. Australia was 85/3 in 19 overs.

Following this, Jadeja-Ashwin ripped apart the rest of the Aussie batting attack, with the ball keeping low and shooting off the surface. The Aussies were eventually bundled out for 113 runs in just 31.1 overs. Only Head and Labuschagne could reach double digits.

Jadeja got the lion’s share of Aussie wickets, finishing with his career-best figures in Test of 7/42 in 12.1 overs. Ashwin scalped 3/59 in 16 overs.

Chasing 115, India lost KL Rahul for just 1, extending his lean patch in the red-ball format. Nathan Lyon had him caught behind by wicketkeeper Alex Carey. The Indian score read 6/1 in 1.1 overs.

Rohit and Pujara then took India through to lunch without any further damage.

Brief Scores: Australia: 263 and 113 (Travis Head 43, Marnus Labuschagne 35, Ravindra Jadeja 7/42) vs India: 262 and 118/4 (Rohit Sharma 31, Cheteshwar Pujara 31*, Nathan Lyon 2/49). (ANI)

Kohli Completes 25,000 Runs In International Cricket

Kohli Completes 25,000 Runs In International Cricket

Star India batter Virat Kohli completed 25,000 runs in international cricket on Sunday, becoming only the sixth batter to touch the landmark and the fastest player to do so.

Virat reached this landmark during the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia in front of his home crowd at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi.
In the 12th over of India’s second innings in a chase of 115 runs, Kohli drove the first ball bowled by spinner Nathan Lyon for a boundary in the long-on region, exhibiting some great footwork.

In the first innings, he had played a composed knock of 44 runs in 84 balls.

Now, in 492 matches and 549 innings, he has scored 25,012 runs at an average of 53.55. Virat has scored 74 centuries and 129 half-centuries in international cricket, with the best score of 254*.

Virat has played 106 Tests so far, in which he has 8,195 runs at an average of 48.77 with 27 tons and 28 fifties. His best score in the format is 254*.

In ODIs, Virat has smashed 12,809 in 271 matches at an average of 57.69. He has 46 tons and 64 half-centuries in the format with the best score of 183.

The batter has also scored 4,008 T20I runs at an average of 52.73. He has a century and 37 fifties in the format.

This makes him the fastest batter to have accomplished the landmark. He surpassed compatriot and legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, who reached the 25,000-run mark in 577 innings.

He is currently the sixth-highest run-scorer in the history of international cricket.

The top-five runs in the history of the sport are India’s Sachin Tendulkar (34,357), Sri Lankan great Kumar Sangakkara (28,016), Australian batting legend Ricky Ponting (27,483), SL’s Mahela Jayawardene (25,957) and South African all-round great Jacques Kallis (25,534).

He is also India’s second-highest run-scorer next to Tendulkar.

Coming to the match, India has set a target of 115 runs to take a series lead of 2-0.

A scintillating show by spin twins Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, including a seven-for by the latter, saw Australia being skittled out for 113 in their second innings of the ongoing second test at Delhi’s Ferozshah Kotla on Sunday, setting the hosts a target of 115 runs to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series for the Border-Gavaskar trophy.

Balloon Incident Must Never Occur Again: Blinken Tells Wang

Balloon Incident Must Never Occur Again: Blinken Tells Wang

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken met China’s top diplomat Wang Yi on Saturday and warned him not to repeat its “irresponsible act” of sending spy balloons into American airspace, The Washington Post reported.

“The secretary made clear the United States will not stand for any violation of our sovereignty,” said State Department spokesman Ned Price underlining that Blinken had also warned China for its balloon incursion and called it an “irresponsible act” and warned that it “must never again occur.”

Taking to Twitter, Blinken said, “Just met with the PRC’s top diplomat, Wang Yi. I condemned the incursion of the PRC surveillance balloon and stressed it must never happen again. I warned China against providing material support to Russia. I also emphasized the importance of keeping open lines of communication.”

This statement came while the two top diplomats met on the sidelines of the annual Munich Security Conference.

During the meeting, the two diplomats discussed various issues, including Chinese surveillance and the country’s alliance with Moscow — topics that have brought diplomatic relations between Beijing and Washington to new lows, reported The Washington Post.

At the annual Munich Security Conference, leaders from across the globe have gathered to discuss key geopolitical challenges including Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and China’s contentious engagement with the West.

Blinken also reiterated to Wang comments he had made publicly about Beijing’s alleged balloon surveillance program, saying it has “intruded into the air space of over 40 countries across 5 continents [and] has been exposed to the world,” Price said.

The viewpoint of China is looming particularly large at the traditionally Eurocentric conference given the surprise announcement that Chinese President Xi Jinping is planning to deliver a “peace speech” on the anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, according to The Washington Post.

Wang was much more critical in describing the United States’ handling of the balloon incident, saying the Biden administration’s actions were “absurd and hysterical.”

China’s top diplomat Wang Yi alleged the US of trying to “smear” the Asian giant while it itself was implementing policies that ran counter to its paradigms such as free trade.

Washington, he said, had the wrong view of China as a serious geopolitical challenge and a threat to the United States. “This is a misguided perception of China and with this perception, the United States is using all of its means to smear and clamp down on China and is co-opting other countries to do the same,” he said.

He said that US President Joe Biden’s administration has a “misguided” perception of Beijing.

“There are many balloons from many countries in the sky. Do you want to down each and every one of them?” said Wang.

He also urged the US “not to do such preposterous things simply to divert attention from its own domestic problems.”

Notably, the US shot down the giant balloon, which China claimed to be a civilian airship used for research mainly meteorological, on February 4 after it hovered over the country for a week.

Blinken had been due to travel to Beijing earlier this month but abruptly called off the visit amid the balloon incursion.

Negotiations over whether to hold this meeting in Munich had gone on for days, underscoring the strain in a relationship where meetings between top diplomats used to be commonplace, said officials familiar with the matter.

They spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss private conversations. (ANI)

Renaming of Mughal Gardens

‘Renaming Of Mughal Gardens Reeks of Religious Nationalism’

Sarfaraz Hamid, a researcher and a heritage walk leader in Delhi, says renaming of Mughal Gardens is the BJP’s attempt to create an Indian identity which is in sync with Hindutva

In my childhood years, I used to come across the naming of local streets, mohallas and landmarks by influential, feudal Zamindars. They would often name the places in the name of their ancestors – or, even in their own names! The first time this ‘naming politics’ hit me was when Aurangzeb Road in New Delhi was named after APJ Abdul Kalam by the AAP government in 2015. As portrayed in the media, it was stated that ‘cruel’ Aurangzeb does not deserve this importance. However, as a historian, I can say that he does not deserve this fate either. We see such things very differently.

Recently, the Mughal Gardens at Rashtrapati Bhavan became ‘Amrit Udyan’ and Delhi University’s Mughal Gardens became ‘Gautam Buddha Centenary’ Garden. They were called the Mughal Gardens because there is an aesthetic pattern in these gardens made by the Mughals. The British named these beautiful gardens, with fountains, water channels and quadrants.

Governments both at the Centre and states have routinely changed the names of roads, railway stations and historical cities. But these changes cannot change history. Undoubtedly, India has been invaded by foreigners. But, be it the Delhi Sultanate or the Mughals, wealth was not plundered and drained out from India — unlike in the British period. There is enough historical inheritance of these monuments, gardens and roads. These were not renamed; they were built.

My concern is that if this important legacy is not passed to the coming generations, then the older names will fade away gradually, as it happened with Shahjahanabad (present day-Old Delhi) and other medieval cities. Nobody is denying that Prayagraj and Ayodhya existed, but no rulers altered their names, rather, they built new cities.

Sarfaraz Hamid (inset) holds regular heritage walks in Delhi

Even when Allahabad and Faizabad were in official use, Prayagraj and Ayodhya existed! Connaught Place was renamed as Rajiv Chowk, though CP persists in popular discourse. We can debate about Qutub Minar — whether it was named after revered saint Qutubuddin Bakhtiyar Kaki or QutubuddinAibak, the military commander of Mohammad of Ghori, but, certainly, we just cannot call it, ‘Atal Stambh’.

ALSO READ: Raze, Rebuild… Repeat

Rajpath became ‘Kartavya Path’ not because it was a ‘Kings Way’. There is an old water body (baoli) located inside the Mehrauli Archaeological Park. It’s called ‘Rajon ki Baoli’, built in the early 16th century by the Lodis. In records, we do not find its name. It’s called ‘Rajon ki Baoli’ because masons (raj mistris) lived there till the 1920s, before they were vacated by British officers from the Archaeological Department. If this fact is not available before us, then the people would have called it the ‘Baoli of Kings’.

There are many such anecdotes. I agree that Janpath, Mughal Sarai, Race Course, Connaught Place will remain in mass social consciousness, but there have been appeals too regarding the erasing of memories of ‘Muslim invaders’. The current dispensation should go through the works of historians. The emperors have been scrutinised and critiqued. Historians have never idolised the rulers. These are the ideological projects of the current regime in Delhi.

Those who want to rewrite history do not have their own history. Even if they have one, it’s a history of betrayal and exclusivity. The ‘rewriting project’ has a long thread; it found speed in the BJP government (1999-2004) led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee. It endorses a new political agenda to create an ‘Indian identity’ — making it synonymous with Hindutva. These people do not believe in creating institutions — instead, they demolish or weaken them. They even changed a major part of the history syllabus in schools and other institutions. Their desperation is evident.

They have gained endorsements from various quarters, including the media. They get the support of fanatics because they create divisions and make the masses believe in mythical and false pride. Such rewriting, based on religious nationalism, needs to be questioned. India celebrates pluralism. The united diversity of India forms the base of the 19th century ‘inclusive nationalism’ against colonialism.

I grew up in a syncretic culture where we shared our bonding through festivals, marriage ceremonies and other events in the neighbourhood. When I started conducting heritage walks, I came across diverse opinions about our shared heritage. The monuments built in medieval times represent inclusivity. The common spaces were meant for everybody. Hindus too contributed in these aesthetic creations. If we undermine or destroy them, it is also an insult of the skills and intelligence of our forefathers who were Hindus.

‘Just Bowl To Get Him Out’: Users Tweet For KL Rahul

‘Just Bowl To Get Him Out’: Users Tweet For KL Rahul

India opener KL Rahul’s horrid run in international cricket continues as the batter failed to fire with his willow once again during the second Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test against Australia at Delhi on Sunday.

Chasing a low-pressure target of 115 runs, fans anticipated opener KL and Rohit Sharma to chase it down without any hassle given that there are two days still left in the match. But KL was the first wicket to fall. Nathan Lyon trapped him for just one run, leaving India at 6/1 in 1.1 overs.
Following his dismissal, cricket fans took to Twitter to express their frustration with KL’s dismal run of form through one-liners, memes, jokes etc.

A Twitter user named Rahul Sharma posted on Twitter in a mocking tone, “Scored the crucial 1 run which Australia lead by in the 1st innings. Well played, KL Rahul.”

Another tweet from user named Drink Cricket posted a meme describing different ways of dismissing batters like Steve Smith, Virat Kohli and Joe Root by pointing out their weaknesses. For KL Rahul, the meme suggested that merely bowling to him would lead to his dismissal.

A user named Kuptaan also tweeted, “If India is 200/1, KL Rahul is out If India is 100/1, KL Rahul is out If India is 50/1, KL Rahul is out If India is 0/1, KL Rahul is out If India is no loss then KL Rahul is not in the playing xi.”

Another Twitter user brought up one of KL’s old tweets playing pool captioned “pretending I know how to play” and tweeted, “KL Rahul had already given us a hint. Only if we knew what he was talking about.”

A Twitter user named Rupen also expressed his frustration with KL’s poor form with a wrestling reference. He posted a video from World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE)’s 2009 Royal Rumble event, which involves a battle royal requiring wrestlers to eliminate their opponents by throwing them over the top rope. He posted a video of wrestler Santino Marella, who was eliminated by Kane in just one second, which is a record for the shortest time in the Royal Rumble match.

Another Twitter user named Sachya posted a hilarious video describing “KL Rahul’s contribution in team for last 2 years”

Notably, The opener did not have a very good 2022. After missing nearly half a year worth of action, KL blew hot and cold ever since Asia Cup 2022. He did score some half-centuries but drew criticism from fans and some cricketers for his lack of attacking intent and his inability to fire during the most important matches for his team.

KL played four Tests last year in which he scored 137 runs at an average of 17.12, with one fifty. He had the best score of 50 in Tests.

In 10 ODIs last year, he scored 251 runs at an average of 27.88, with two half-centuries and the best score of 73.

In 16 T20Is in 2022, he scored 434 runs at an average of 28.93 and six half-centuries, with a best score of 62.

Overall in 30 matches last year, KL scored 822 runs at an average of 25.68, with nine half-centuries.

This year, KL has scored only 38 runs in his three Test innings. Overall, KL has scored 148 runs in five international matches across six innings at an average of 29.60 with one half-century and the best score of 64*.

Coming to the match, India won the second Test against Australia by six wickets and took a series lead of 2-0. (ANI)
