Congress Rahul Gandhi

If PM Wants To Douse Fire In Manipur, He Can Do In 2-3 Days: Rahul

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over Manipur, saying that the PM can solve the problem of the northeastern state in two-three days but he wants “the fire should keep burning”.

While addressing a public gathering in Rajasthan’s Mangarh, Rahul Gandhi hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), saying that the ideology of the party has “murdered” Bharat Mata (India) in Manipur.

“In Manipur, there is fire. People are being killed, children are being killed; women are being raped. I told Parliament that Bharat Mata was killed in Manipur. BJP’s ideology has murdered Bharat Mata in Manipur. If the PM wants, he can douse the fire in Manipur in 2-3 days. But PM wants the fire to keep burning. It’s been three months, and it seems like Manipur is not a part of India. The PM has not spoken a single word about Manipur. I went there. MPs of the Opposition alliance went there but the PM did not go there,” the Congress leader said.

Rahul was addressing the rally on the occasion of the International Day of World’s Indigenous People (Tribal Day).

He was there to pay homage to the unsung tribal heroes who sacrificied their lives during the freedom struggle.

Mangarh Hill holds special importance for the Bhil community and other tribes of Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh. During the freedom struggle, Britishers opened fire at more than 1.5 lakh Bhils and other tribes who engaged in a long stand-off with them at Mangarh Hill on 17th November 1913 under the leadership of Shri Govind Guru.

It led to the Mangarh massacre and approximately 1500 tribals were martyred.

While addressing the gathering, Rahul Gandhi said that people of the modern world should learn how to establish relation with nature from tribes.

“How to have a relation with jal, jungle and jameen, people of the modern world should learn from tribal communities. BJP has now coined a term for tribals- Vanwasi. They want to take your (tribes’) lands and give it to Adani,” the Wayanad MP said.

This was his first visit to any state after being reinstated as MP after the Supreme Court stayed his conviction in the Modi surname case.

The Rajasthan Pradesh Committee leaders including its in-charge Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa have been camping in Mangarh Dham and Banswara for the last couple of days. (ANI)

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday spoke on the issue of Manipur in Lok Sabha and slammed the Opposition for not having a discussion over this ‘sensitive’ issue.

“From day one I was ready for the discussion on the Manipur issue but Opposition never wanted to do a discussion. If they would have not been satisfied with my points, then they should have demanded the PM’s statement. But, the Opposition was not ready to have the discussion,” Shah said in the Lower House.

He further said that during the past six years of the BJP government in Manipur, there was never a requirement for a curfew.

“The opposition doesn’t want me to speak but they can’t silence me. You have to listen to me. 130 cr people have elected us so they have to listen to us…It has been almost six years since BJP formed a government there. During the past six years of our government, the need for a curfew never rose,’ Shah said while speaking on the no-confidence motion in the Lower House.

He further said that doing politics over the matter is “shameful”.

“I agree that there have been incidents of violence in Manipur. No one can support such incidents. Doing politics on these incidents is shameful,” Shah said.

He further appealed to both Meitei and Kuki communities to engage in dialogue and said that violence is not a solution to any problem.

Malkhan Singh congress

Former Bandit Malkhan Singh Joins Congress

Former dacoit Malkhan Singh on Wednesday joined the Congress party in the presence of former Chief Minister Kamal Nath and leader of opposition Govind Singh at the party’s Bhopal office

“Today I am joining the Congress party after quitting the BJP. I had campaigned for the BJP and thought it to be a principled party, and it will work with principles. But I have not seen so much corruption that the Congress has not done damage in 50 years as much as BJP has done in the last 20 years.”

“I am not a leader who does politics. I will never compromise against atrocity. If there is injustice and oppression in the public, then I will oppose it and will never compromise with it,” Singh said.

The former bandit had surrendered in the year 1982 before the then Chief Minister Arjun Singh.

Talking about his surrender, he said, “Former PM Rajiv Gandhi took the initiative for my surrender. My demand was the 100 bighas of land for Ramjanaki temple in the area and when the land was granted for the temple, I surrendered before the then CM Arjun Singh.”

Meanwhile, BJP leader Suhani Kushwaha and former District Education Officer Santosh Sharma also joined the Congress party today.

“I welcome Malkhan Singh ji to the Congress party. Today every class is troubled and the future of the youth is in darkness. Corruption is going on everywhere,” Kamal Nath said.

Today, those who joined the Congress party have supported the truth, the Congress leader said.

Today is World Tribal Day but tribal people are being tortured in the State, Nath said adding that Madhya Pradesh has become number one in tribal atrocity incidents in the country.

Law and order has completely broken and women are being tortured, he said.

Nath also took a dig at Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan when there was a power outage during Malkhan Singh’s joining ceremony. Nath said that it was CM Chouhan’s “artwork.”

“Shivraj ji has made 22000 announcements in these years. The announcement machine is running at double speed,” Nath claimed. (ANI)

Gilgit-Baltistan PoK Flood Victims

PoK: Gilgit-Baltistan Lawmakers Allege Misuse Of Funds For Flood Victims

Members of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly have demanded an investigation into alleged corruption and misuse of funds provided for the rehabilitation of flood-affected people in the region, reported Dawn.

The lawmakers alleged that about a billion rupees provided as funds by the federal government and non-governmental organizations for the flood-affected areas have been misused.

Javed Ali Manwa, an opposition member proposed a motion in the Gilgit-Baltistan assembly on Tuesday to ‘draw attention towards the flood-hit people’.

The flash floods and glacial lake outburst floods (Glof) had caused disasters across the region and have further damaged roads, bridges, water and irrigation channels, cultivation lands and houses, Javed added, according to Dawn.

Javed further said that the assembly needs to review the utilisation of funds allotted for flood rehabilitation. He suggested that a parliamentary committee should probe the implementation of the foreign-funded project Glof-II at a cost of billion of rupees.

He stated that installing early warning systems, organizing seminars in five-star hotels and arranging exposure visits under the project cannot control these disasters, reported Dawn.

The GB Disaster Management Authority had one task which was to provide tents and food in affected areas, Javed said.

Nawaz Khan Naji, another opposition member added to Javed and claimed that the funds for last year’s flood victims have been misused. “The victims have voluntarily restored water channels while funds in the name of disasters have been embezzled.”

The government provided a lot of funds to flood-affected people, but the money was “distributed among blue-eyed people”, he added.

Naji further said that the people who became homeless due to the floods did not get any compensation so far.

Moreover, he demanded a fair investigation into the issue, Dawn reported.

However, Deputy Speaker Sadia Danish said that billions of rupees marked for the Glof-II project have been embezzled in the name of seminars but no such practical work can be seen.

She further suggested that the project’s initiatives should be presented before the house and brief about its implementation.

GB Interior Minister Shams Lone responded to these claims and said that disaster losses across GB were being assessed.

Furthermore, Advocate Amjad Hussain, a lawmaker from the treasury benches mentioned that the last government did not utilise the funds provided for flood-hit people appropriately, according to Dawn.

“There are flaws in the GB disaster policy which need to be removed,” he added and suggested that the speaker should constitute a parliamentary committee to monitor rehabilitating works in flood-affected areas and review disaster assessments.

Meanwhile, Minister for Excise and Taxation Rehmat Khaliq also commented on the issue and said that although the people in flood-affected areas were suffering, but rehabilitation work has not started yet.

Later, Speaker Nazir Ahmed appointed a five-member parliamentary committee, headed by  Ayub Waziri, Public Accounts Committee Chairman, to further assess the rehabilitation work and has asked them to submit the report by Friday.

Heavy rains and lightning have inflicted massive damage to crops and properties Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK), leaving the poor residents without any aid from the government.

Two key water channels that were used to supply water to the region have been completely destroyed, resulting in a severe shortage of drinking water for the local population.

The residents are facing acute hardships due to the lack of access to clean and safe water for their daily needs, and the floods have caused extensive damage to crops, leaving farmlands submerged and destroyed.

“We haven’t received anything. Neither we received compensation for crops nor any other damages. It is our strong appeal to the government to provide aid to the victims,” a resident said.

Over the years, the region of Gilgit-Baltistan has been marginalized and overlooked by the government when it comes to critical infrastructure development, disaster preparedness, and access to basic amenities.

The lack of investment and attention has resulted in the community being ill-prepared to handle natural disasters like these floods. Now, in the face of this devastating situation, the people feel abandoned and left to fend for themselves. (ANI)
