Baghel Writes To Modi, Urges To Announce Census Schedule Soon

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Sunday, wrote a letter to PM Modi requesting him to direct authorities to release the Census schedule soon.

In the letter addressed to PM Modi, Baghel said that Census helps in formulating the developmental policies of the country.
“For the last 150 years, Census is being conducted every 10 years. It helps in collecting data related to the social, cultural and economic changes in the last ten years. It helps in formulating the developmental policies for the country,” Baghel said in his letter.

He said that the data provided by the last Census, conducted in 2011, are not applicable 12 years later, in 2023.

“In 2011, for the first time, social, economic and caste census was also conducted, based on which the current welfare schemes are being carried out. But, the census data was only applicable for a period of 10 years. The data provided are not suitable after 12 years. It would be better if a new survey is carried out at the earliest. In the survey, it should also be found how much benefits actually reached to the deprived sections,” the letter further read.

CM Baghel urged PM Modi to direct the relevant authorities to fix the date for conducting the census.

“Keeping in consideration the importance of the census, and interests of the poor, I request you to kindly notify that the dates for the census program soon,” Baghel added. (ANI)

North Korea Fires Two Ballistic Missiles Toward East Sea

North Korea Fires Two Ballistic Missiles Toward East Sea

North Korea fired two short-range ballistic missiles towards the East Sea on Monday, the second attack within 48 hours and a day after US-South Korea staged joint air drills, Yonhap News Agency reported.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said they had detected the launch from North Korea’s Sukchon area between 7 am to 7:11 am.
“While strengthening its monitoring and vigilance, our military is maintaining a full readiness posture in close cooperation with the US,” the JCS said in a text message sent to reporters.

This comes a day after the US and South Korea staged combined air drills, involving at least one B-1B strategic bomber, on Sunday, Seoul’s military said.

During the drills, F-35A stealth fighters and F-15K jets from the South flew together with US F-16 fighters to escort the B-1B aircraft entering the South’s air defence identification zone, according to the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), reported Yonhap News Agency.

US and South Korea launched its drill after North Korea confirmed that they had fired ICBM on February 18 in a “surprise launching drill.”

The training this time demonstrated the South Korea-U.S. combined defence capabilities and posture featuring the alliance’s overwhelming forces, through the timely and immediate deployment of the U.S.’ extended deterrence assets to the Korean Peninsula,” the JCS said in a press release.

It added that the air drills affirmed Washington’s “ironclad” commitment to the defence of the peninsula and its extended deterrence pledge.

Monday’s launch marks the North’s third missile provocation this year, according to Yonhap News Agency.

Kim Yo-jong, the influential sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, issued another sharp-tongued threat of “corresponding” actions against the allies’ military drills.

“The frequency of using the Pacific as our firing range depends upon the U.S.,” she said in an English-language statement carried by the North’s official Korean Central News Agency.

The latest sabre-rattling raised concerns that the North may continue to engage in such provocations as the allies plan to hold a tabletop military exercise against North Korean nuclear threats this week and their springtime Freedom Shield exercise next month, as per the report in Yonhap News Agency. Meghalaya Govt Denied Permission For Modi’s Rally In Tura: BJP

Meghalaya Govt Denied Permission For Modi’s Rally In Tura: BJP

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national secretary Rituraj Sinha on Sunday questioned the National People’s Party (NPP) government in poll-bound Meghalaya for denying permission for holding a rally of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Tura.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Meghalaya on February 24 ahead of the assembly elections to be held later this month.

The BJP had planned to organise a mega rally of PM Modi in Tura on February 24. The BJP, however, said that permission to hold the rally at Tura’s PA Sangma Stadium was denied by the state government, citing the stadium was still under construction.

Speaking to ANI, Sinha said, “We requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to hold a roadshow in Shillong and a public rally in Tura, Garo hills. We sought permission for PA Sangma stadium to organise a PM rally but we are surprised to know that the stadium is under construction and not ready. So they sent a letter that PM’s rally could not be held there. The entire country and the people of Meghalaya know that PA Sangma stadium was inaugurated by CM Conrad Sangma on December 16 itself in a grand manner.”

The BJP leader said NPP and other parties sensed a “Modi wave in Meghalaya” and therefore stopping PM Modi’s rally in the state is a deliberated attempt.

“The stadium which was ready on December 16, how come it is under construction again in February end? Why it is not available for the PM’s rally? The reason is political. It seems that opposition parties like NPP, TMC and Congress are scared of the Modi wave here. The people of Meghalaya want a BJP government like other northeastern states,” he added.

Notably, Tura, part of Garo Hills, is considered the bastion of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and a majority of his legislators elected from this region.

Voting for the 60-seat Meghalaya Legislative Assembly will be held in a single phase on February 27. The counting of votes will be done on March 2. (ANI)

Zeenat Opens Up About Making A Comeback

Zeenat Opens Up About Making A Comeback

Ever since she made her Instagram debut, veteran actress Zeenat Aman has been spilling the beans about her personal and professional life. On Sunday, the ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram’ actress opened up about whether she is making a comeback on the silver screen or not.

Taking to Instagram, Zeenat penned a long note, which read, “There’s been some speculation that my presence here is the precursor to my return to the silver screen. I am a notoriously private person, and I suppose this sudden sharing has set tongues wagging. The truth is that I have been in the public eye since I was 16-years-old, and have experienced the perils of being misquoted, taken out of context, censored, and gossiped about. Now as a septuagenarian I am enjoying the opportunity to reflect on my life and career in my own words. That too without any pressures from managers or studios or brands.”
https://www.instagram.com/p/Co1RElpIum1/

She added,” I am not, per se, planning a return to the silver screen, but nor am I closing that door. Creativity does not retire, and I would love to sink my teeth into a nuanced and impactful character. I’m of course quite aware that such roles for older women are few and far apart. Some days ago I read about the Annenberg Foundation study that analysed 1,000 Hollywood films released between 2007 and 2017. They found that less than 25% of the women on screen were over the age of 40. The numbers for the Indian film industry are unlikely to be much better.”

Zeenat shared that she is learning online lingo.

“So, in short, I nurture optimism not expectations. In the meanwhile, my sons are helping me understand online lingo. I just learnt what a “thirst trap” is!,” she continued.

On Friday, Zeenat opened up about embracing grey hair. She also spoke about the stereotypical notion of society and the standards set by them for a woman’s beauty.

She shared a picture clicked by her son Zahaan Khan. She is sitting in a garden area. While her back is to the camera, the picture is noticeable for her ‘silver bob’ which she discussed in her caption.

“As women, we are told that our social worth lies in youth and physical beauty. If not explicitly, then in a thousand subliminal ways. This is especially true for the entertainment industry. In general, as we age, men are bequeathed gravitas but women are at best offered sympathy,” she wrote.

Zeenat revealed that she “was initially reluctant to stop dyeing my hair, and was strongly advised against it. Some well wishers even said it would negatively impact my work opportunities.”

“It was only once I contemplated upon my own hesitations that I realised I really don’t care to buttress our society’s idolisation of youth. Being young is wonderful, but so is being old. It thrills me to see more and more silver-haired women (of all ages) challenge the status quo,” she added.

Zeenat is best known for featuring in films such as ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram’, ‘Don’, ‘Yaadon ki Baraat’, ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna’, ‘Qurbani, Dostana’, ‘Dharam Veer’, among others. (ANI)

India Beat Australia By Six Wicket In 2nd Test Match

India Beat Australia By Six Wicket In 2nd Test Match

After bowlers skittled out visitors for 113, Rohit Sharma, Srikar Bharat and Cheteshwar Pujara held their ground to help India register an emphatic 6-wicket victory against Australia in the second Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy here at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Sunday.

India retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy by taking a 2-0 lead in the four-match series. Pujara (31) and Bharat (23) played till the end to guide their team home. For India, Ravindra Jadeja ripped through Australia with seven for 42.
India struggled to chase down 115 at times, but the score was never particularly dangerous because of Pujara’s unbeaten 31, who carried the home team to victory.

Resuming their innings at 14/1, India skipper Rohit Sharma in red-hot form slammed Australian bowlers all around the ground as he gathered 12 runs off Nathan Lyon’s over.

However, Rohit’s blistering stint at the crease came to an end as he was run out after scoring 31 runs off 20 deliveries.

Virat Kohli then came out to bat at the crease with Cheteshwar Pujara. As Pujara kept piling singles at regular intervals, Kohli holding one end tight became the fastest batter to score 25,000 international runs.

The former India captain kept slamming boundaries to ease some pressure from the Indian team.

Nathan Lyon delivered a short ball but Virat Kohli beautifully played it toward the backward square leg fence for an excellent four in the 16th over of the innings.

Todd Murphy then provided his team with a big breakthrough as he removed a dangerous batter Kohli for 20 runs.

The right-handed batter Shreyas Iyer then came out to bat and slammed two beautiful big shots before losing his wicket to Lyon for 12 off 10. Iyer’s wicket invited right-handed batter Srikar Bharat to the crease.

Bharat shifted the gears as he kept piling runs by slamming Australian bowlers for boundaries. After 25 over, India needed just 10 runs to win. Playing his landmark 100th Test, Pujara slammed an excellent four off Murphy’s delivery to take India home with 6 wickets against Australia in the 2nd Test.

Earlier, a scintillating show by spin twins Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, including a seven-for by the latter, saw Australia being skittled out for 113 in their second innings of the ongoing second test at Delhi’s Ferozshah Kotla on Sunday, setting the hosts a target of 115 runs.

At lunch, India’s score read 14/1, with skipper Rohit Sharma (12) and Cheteshwar Pujara (1) at the crease.

Australia resumed their innings at 61/1, with Travis Head 39, Marnus Labuschagne 16 seeking to build on the visitors’ lead.

Ashwin struck for the hosts early in the session, dismissing a dangerous Head for 43 off 46 balls and reducing Australia to 65/2. The duo of Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne then took the innings forward, adding 20 more runs before Ashwin sent back Smith for just 9. Australia was 85/3 in 19 overs.

Following this, Jadeja-Ashwin ripped apart the rest of the Aussie batting attack, with the ball keeping low and shooting off the surface. The Aussies were eventually bundled out for 113 runs in just 31.1 overs. Only Head and Labuschagne could reach double digits.

Jadeja got the lion’s share of Aussie wickets, finishing with his career-best figures in Test of 7/42 in 12.1 overs. Ashwin scalped 3/59 in 16 overs.

Chasing 115, India lost KL Rahul for just 1, extending his lean patch in the red-ball format. Nathan Lyon had him caught behind by wicketkeeper Alex Carey. The Indian score read 6/1 in 1.1 overs.

Rohit and Pujara then took India through to lunch without any further damage.

Brief Scores: Australia: 263 and 113 (Travis Head 43, Marnus Labuschagne 35, Ravindra Jadeja 7/42) vs India: 262 and 118/4 (Rohit Sharma 31, Cheteshwar Pujara 31*, Nathan Lyon 2/49). (ANI)

Kohli Completes 25,000 Runs In International Cricket

Star India batter Virat Kohli completed 25,000 runs in international cricket on Sunday, becoming only the sixth batter to touch the landmark and the fastest player to do so.

In the 12th over of India’s second innings in a chase of 115 runs, Kohli drove the first ball bowled by spinner Nathan Lyon for a boundary in the long-on region, exhibiting some great footwork.

In the first innings, he had played a composed knock of 44 runs in 84 balls.

Now, in 492 matches and 549 innings, he has scored 25,012 runs at an average of 53.55. Virat has scored 74 centuries and 129 half-centuries in international cricket, with the best score of 254*.

Virat has played 106 Tests so far, in which he has 8,195 runs at an average of 48.77 with 27 tons and 28 fifties. His best score in the format is 254*.

In ODIs, Virat has smashed 12,809 in 271 matches at an average of 57.69. He has 46 tons and 64 half-centuries in the format with the best score of 183.

The batter has also scored 4,008 T20I runs at an average of 52.73. He has a century and 37 fifties in the format.

This makes him the fastest batter to have accomplished the landmark. He surpassed compatriot and legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, who reached the 25,000-run mark in 577 innings.

He is currently the sixth-highest run-scorer in the history of international cricket.

The top-five runs in the history of the sport are India’s Sachin Tendulkar (34,357), Sri Lankan great Kumar Sangakkara (28,016), Australian batting legend Ricky Ponting (27,483), SL’s Mahela Jayawardene (25,957) and South African all-round great Jacques Kallis (25,534).

He is also India’s second-highest run-scorer next to Tendulkar.

Coming to the match, India has set a target of 115 runs to take a series lead of 2-0.
