Govt Administration Sukhu

Govt Committed To Providing Transparent, Responsive, Accountable Administration: Sukhu

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday said that the state government is committed to providing a transparent, responsive, and accountable administration to the people of the state.

While addressing a huge rally ‘Jan Aabhar Rally’ organized at Zorawar Stadium in Dharamshala, CM Sukhu expressed gratitude to the people of Kangra district for their massive mandate in favour of the Congress Party in the recently held assembly elections.
Incidentally, this is the first visit of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to the district after becoming the Chief Minister of the State.

The Chief Minister said that the present State Government was here not to enjoy power, but for bringing a change in the system.

He said that after being sworn in as Chief Minister of the State, he visited the Girl Child Care Institute, Tutikandi in Shimla, and felt that a lot more is required to be done for the destitute children, women, and senior citizens.

“We have decided to set up ‘Chief Minister’s Sukhashray Sahayata Kosh’ with an outlay of Rs 101 crore so that it can meet the basic educational facilities of the children and destitute women,” he added.

He also attacked the BJP government and said that it opened 900 institutions in different parts of the state without any budgetary provisions

“This was simply done to lure the people and with an eye on assembly elections, haphazard announcements were made. The present State Government cracked a big paper scam going on since the tenure of the BJP Government in the Himachal Pradesh Staff Selection Commission, Hamirpur, which had become a den of selling question papers,” he said.

CM Sukhu said that the State Government would implement all the ten guarantees as promised in the congress manifesto during assembly elections in a phased manner,

“The Government will implement Old Pension Scheme (OPS) in its first cabinet. Besides, a decision to provide Rs. 1500 to the women in the age group of 18 to 60 years would also be taken soon,” he said.

Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, while addressing the audience took a jibe at BJP leaders and remarked that it seems that these leaders were finding it difficult to digest, and defeat and thus were issuing baseless statements.

“The State Government in the last about 21 days of its tenure has taken some historic decisions. Rs 101 crore ‘Chief Minister Sukhashray Sahayata Kosh’ has been established to ensure that lesser privileged children can get adequate financial assistance for higher education as per their choice,” he said.

Member of Parliament and State Congress President, Pratibha Singh thanked the people of the state for their wholehearted support in the assembly elections.

“It was due to the support and love of the people that the Congress Party was able to form the Government in the State, she said. The party organization and the State Government would work with complete unison to ensure that the pace of development gets added vigour so that Himachal can emerge as a model State in the matter of development,” she said. Sukhu Took Oath As The 15th CM Of Himachal

Congress leader Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, who climbed the political ladder up from the grassroots level in Himachal Pradesh, took oath as the 15th Chief Minister of the hill state at a ceremony in Shimla on Sunday.

The oath-taking ceremony took place at 1.30 pm on Sunday at Raj Bhavan, Shimla.
A loyalist of the Gandhi family, Sukhu is a four-time MLA (58) and former chief of Congress in the state.

Sukhu is known as an affable and approachable leader who has a vast network in the hill state due to his long years in the organization. He also holds a broad organizational experience in the state owing to his connection with the grand old party for many years.

He was the party’s state unit president from 2013 to 2019 and spoke his mind even if it was not to the liking of the party’s tallest leader Virbhadra Singh, a six-time Chief Minister.

Sukhu has been in favor of promoting and grooming younger Congress leaders in Himachal Pradesh.

With Congress chief ministers over the past four decades coming from Rampur Bushahr, Congress central leadership was apparently keen to expand its choice.

Sukhu belongs to a middle-class family. He was active in politics from his student days and fought elections as an NSUI candidate. He was president of NSUI and the Indian Youth Congress in the state. He fought and won elections for Shimla Municipal Corporation. Sukhu won the assembly election for the first time in 2003 from Nadaun.

Sukhu was chairman of the Congress Campaign Committee for the assembly elections in which the party focused on local issues and made lucrative promises including an old age pension scheme.

Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu Himachal CM

Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu To Take Oath As Himachal’s CM

Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu was on Saturday chosen as leader of the Congress Legislature Party in Himachal Pradesh paving way for his elevation as the new Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh.

The newly-elected MLAs had on Friday adopted a resolution authorizing the party high command to select the leader of the legislature party. A meeting of party MLAs was held here in the evening.
Congress leadership had earlier in the day sounded that Sukhu will be the new chief minister after which supporters of state Congress chief Pratibha Singh had raised slogans demanding that she should be made the Chief Minister.

Himachal Pradesh Congress in-charge Rajeev Shukla, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and Himachal observer Bhupesh Baghel, Himachal Pradesh Congress Chief Pratibha Virbhadra Singh, and several other Congress leaders were in Shimla to oversee the election of the new leader.

Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel said that the high command has chosen Sukhu as leader of the legislature party and Mukesh Agnihotri will be Deputy Chief Minister.

“Oath ceremony will take place tomorrow at 11 am,” he said.

Cong Himachal Party Chief Pratibha Singh

No Groupism In Cong: Himachal Party Chief Pratibha Singh

Himachal Pradesh Congress chief Pratibha Singh informed that they will be holding a meeting to decide upon the name of the Chief Minister of the hill state in the evening.

“We will be holding a meeting in the evening and then deciding the name of the CM. There is no groupism and everybody is with us,” Pratibha Singh said hours after her statement sparked a row of controversy.
State President Pratibha Virbhadra Singh, in a conversation with ANI, was seen hinting at her desire to be chosen as the CM of the state as she said that the party cannot ignore the person (her husband- Virbhadra Singh) in whose name it contested the polls and won.

“They can’t neglect his (Virbhadra Singh) family. We won on his name, face, and work. It can’t be the case that you use his name, face, and family and then give all the credit to someone else. Even High Command won’t do this,” she had said.

Having said the aforesaid, Congress leader Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu had said that the MLA selected by the party’s High Command would become the new Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh.

Meanwhile, another Congress leader Kuldeep Singh Rathore also said that there are no differences of opinion among the party MLAs as everyone has come here on the party ticket.

“Nobody is narrating any different story. everyone has been chosen by the party ticket and everyone would respect the Congress high command’s decision,” Kuldeep Singh Rathore said ANI.

He further added that a decision will be taken by the party leaders, and supervisors Bhupinder Hooda and Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel will be conveyed to the party high command and they will then take the final call, he said.

Chhattisgarh CM and party’s Himachal supervisor Bhupesh Baghel clarified that there was no question of neglecting anyone and the party would go on by taking everyone together.

“There is no question of neglecting anyone. Everyone will be taken together to go ahead. Everyone has the right to express their opinion. There is no problem,” CM Baghel said as he landed in Shimla for the meeting.

He said that it is the victory of the people of Shimla and Congress leaders and workers. “Everyone worked hard. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra played the most crucial role, and we also had blessings of Sonia Ji and Rahul Gandhi Ji,” said Baghel.

Finalizing its chief ministerial candidate for Himachal Pradesh appears to be a big task for Congress with various aspirants in the fray including Pratibha Singh. Former state Congress chief Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu and CLP leader Mukesh Agnihotri are also seen as the other contenders for the post.

Congress returned to power in Himachal Pradesh after five years in the results announced on Thursday. The Congress won 40 seats in the 68-member assembly riding on anti-incumbency.

While Congress won 40 seats in Himachal Pradesh, the BJP won 25 seats. Independents won three seats and AAP failed to open its account in the state.

In terms of vote share in Himachal, Congress is only marginally ahead of the BJP has got 43.88 percent of votes compared to 42.99 percent of its rival. Others garnered a 10.4 percent vote share in the hill state.

Himachal Pradesh has a long tradition of alternating governments and Congress was on the right side of anti-incumbency. Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur resigned following the party’s defeat in the polls. Notably, in the 2017 Assembly elections, the BJP formed the government by winning 44 seats while Congress secured 21 seats. (ANI)

Himachal Win Cong

Himachal Win Gives Some Succour To Dwindling Cong

Victory in Himachal Pradesh assembly polls came as a huge relief to Congress which recorded its worst performance in Gujarat and had suffered a huge blow in assembly polls in five states held earlier this year.

The results of assembly polls in Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat on Thursday also had a message for opposition parties regarding their ambition to take on the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
Congress cashed in on the strong anti-incumbency sentiment in Himachal Pradesh as it ran a campaign that focused on local issues and made lucrative promises including the restoration of the old pension scheme and a promise of Rs 1,500 to women and free power of 300 units.

Congress won 40 seats against 25 won by the BJP. However, its vote share was 43,88 percent which is very close to 42.99 percent of the BJP and several seats in the hill state have seen narrow margins with the presence of rebels also a deciding factor.

The Congress’ “hyper-local or micro” campaign in Gujarat did not yield results and apparently made it easier for the BJP to storm back to power with a record victory. The BJP won 156 seats in the state, shattering the record of Congress which had won 149 seats in the 1985 election.

While Congress was able to fend off Aam Aadmi Party’s challenge to a large extent in Himachal Pradesh, it could not do so in Gujarat.

Congress had put up a stout fight against BJP in the 2017 election in Gujarat giving the ruling party a scare but its efforts in this election appeared to lack vitality. Congress’ campaign strategy proved ineffective in front of high-pitched campaigns of BJP and AAP.

Congress vote share has shrunk from 41.4 percent in the 2017 assembly poll to 27.28 percent in this election, a steep slide of around 14 percent. In contrast, both BJP and AAP have increased their vote percentage.

AAP, which has made entry into Gujarat assembly with five seats, is now a national party and has a sizeable 12.92 percent vote share in Gujarat. It appears AAP has gained almost entirely at the cost of Congress in the state.

Like Himachal Pradesh, which has seen alternate governments for several years, Congress also had great hopes of wresting Uttarakhand from the BJP earlier this year. But the party’s inept management allowed the BJP to have a successive second term in office in the hill state.

The Congress is widely seen to have bungled its decisions in Punjab where it was in power and had bright prospects before elections this year in February this year. It was also on the right side of anti-incumbency in the assembly polls held earlier this year in Goa and Manipur.

Not having projected a chief ministerial face in Himachal Pradesh, the Congress now has a major task to choose an acceptable face among the clashing ambition of its leaders in the hill state. An acceptable choice would be vital for the stability of the government.

Party leaders hailed the verdict in Himachal Pradesh as a “morale booster” and said the pledges made to the people of the state would be fulfilled.

They also expressed disappointment over Gujarat’s results.

“Congress was up against a 3 party alliance of BJP, AAP, and MIM, a campaign of provocative polarisation, the machinery of state and Centre. Our vote share gives us hope and confidence for rebuilding and revival. We are the only alternative in Gujarat,” party leader Jairam Ramesh said in a tweet.

Congress general secretary KC Venugopal said in tweets, Himachal Pradesh “has chosen its message of compassion over hatred”.

On Gujarat, he said the “unholy nexus between AAP and BJP was instrumental in dividing the secular votes to script the saffron victory”.

“The Congress party will deeply probe and introspect the reasons for this debacle and will take corrective measures,” he said.

The Bharat Jodo Yatra led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has an apparent larger objective to prepare the ground for the party’s success in the 2024 elections but the party has to do a rigorous follow-up to make any gains. While Rahul Gandhi addressed two rallies in Himachal Pradesh, he did not address any rallies in Himachal Pradesh.

Rahul Gandhi said in a tweet that the party accepts the verdict in Gujarat and the party will reorganize itself and work hard to fight for the rights of the people of the state and for the ideals of the country.

He thanked the people of Himachal for the verdict and congratulated party leaders. The Congress drubbing in Gujarat came two days after the party registered its worst performance in the MCD election in the national capital.

These are the first election results under the new party chief Mallikarjun Kharge.

Not having a projected chief ministerial face in Himachal Pradesh, the Congress now has a major task to choose an acceptable face among the clashing ambitions of its leaders in the hill state. An acceptable choice would be vital for the stability of the government.

The Congress will face major challenges in elections next year in Karnataka, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh.

While it is in power in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, BJP is in power in Karnataka and is seeking to massively expand in Telangana.

Gujarat results also expose the faultlines in opposition unity that would give BJP an advantage in the forthcoming elections. With AAP likely to contest assembly polls next year in Karnataka, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh, it could add to the problems of the Congress in these states. The competition among opposition parties and fragmentation of votes would pose a stiff challenge to opposition unity ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls with Congress keen to lead the race. (ANI)

BJP’s Record Win In Gujarat, Cong Gets Majority In Himachal

BJP is set for a record performance and a landmark victory in Gujarat and Congress was poised to form government in Himachal Pradesh according to the results and trends of the counting of votes on Thursday.

The byelection to six seats in five states also gave a mixed result with Congress and BJP leading on two seats each and BJD and RLD on one each. Samajwadi Party candidate Dimple Yadav has a massive lead in the bypoll for the Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat.
The BJP is poised to break all records of electoral performance in Gujarat, the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, and is set to get the highest number of seats won by a political party in the state’s history.

According to the latest information from the Election Commission, BJP is poised to win 158 seats in the 182-member Gujarat assembly having already won 79 seats and leading on 79 seats. Aam Aadmi Party has made its entry into the state assembly having won two seats and leading on two more. The party has increased its vote percentage to 12.87 percent in an indication of its growing presence in the state.

The Congress is set to suffer its worst electoral defeat in Gujarat, having won seven seats and leading on nine.

The BJP, which has won its seventh straight election in Gujarat, is set to not only improve its own best record of 127 seats in 2002 – the first election with Narendra Modi as chief minister – but the Congress tally of 149 seats in 1985.

In Himachal Pradesh, Congress is slated to win 39 of 68 seats, having won 26 and leading on 13. The BJP has won 14 seats and is leading on 12. Independents have won three seats and AAP failed to open its account in the state.

In terms of vote share in Himachal, Congress is only marginally ahead of the BJP has got 43.88 percent of votes compared to 42.99 percent of its rival. Others have garnered a 10.4 percent vote share in the hill state.

The Congress, which had not projected a Chief Ministerial candidate in the hill state, is planning a meeting of its MLAs in Chandigarh with some of its leaders apprehending “poaching” attempts by BJP.

Celebrations began at the BJP office in Ahmedabad soon after it was clear that the party was on course to an overwhelming victory in the state. Congress workers also celebrated the party’s performance in Himachal Pradesh.

Incumbent Gujarat chief minister Bhupendra Patel is set to take oath as chief minister of the state for the second time on December 12.

“The results of Gujarat elections are quite clear. People have made up their minds to further continue with the journey of development in Gujarat. We humbly accept the mandate of the people. Every worker of BJP is committed to public service,” he said.

BJP president JP Nadda congratulated Bhupendra Patel, the party’s Gujarat chief CR Paatil, and all the workers of the state BJP for the party’s landslide victory in the state.

Alpesh Thakor, BJP’s candidate from Gandhinagar South seat said BJP has developed Gujarat.

“We will serve the people of Gujarat. It’s a bumper win. We said earlier also that we will win over 150 seats,” says Alpesh Thakor,” he said.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said he will tender his resignation to the Governor.

“I respect people’s mandate. I want to thank Prime Minister and central leadership (for their support) during the last 5 yrs. We’ll stand for the development of the state irrespective of politics. We’ll analyze our shortcomings and improve during the next term,” Thakur told media persons in Shimla.

Congress in charge of Himachal Pradesh Rajiv Shukla said the party will implement 10 guarantees in the state.

Congress leader Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said that the party will form a government in the state.

“BJP considered itself strong in Himachal Pradesh, PM Modi and Amit Shah visited the State several times. Congress is going to form the government with a full majority,” he said. (ANI)

Manipur Violence Modi Silent

Jairam Ramesh Calls Modi ‘Prachar Mantri’

As the Indian National Congress (INC) registered a victory in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly election, veteran leader of the party Jairam Ramesh took a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), saying that the party failed to retain the government in the state despite the PM Narendra Modi’s high voltage campaign.

Taking a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP national President who hails from the hill state, Ramesh said that Congress managed to win the elections even after the PM’s high voltage campaign in the home state of the BJP President JP Nadda.
He also called the PM a “Prachar Mantri”.

“The Himachal Pradesh result is a definite morale booster for the Congress. The PM (Prachar Mantri)’s high voltage campaign in the home state of the BJP President failed significantly. The pledges made to the people of Himachal by the Congress will be fulfilled,” Jairam Ramesh wrote in his tweet on Thursday.

While the BJP bagged 25 seats in Himachal, the Congress party is tipped to win 40 of the 68 Assembly seats, keeping the alternative government tradition.

In Himachal Pradesh, Independent candidates won three seats while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) failed to open its account in the state. The others in the fray, including Independents, combined to garner a further 10.4 percent vote share in the hill state.

The Congress, which had not projected a chief ministerial candidate for the hill state, has planned to hold a meeting of its victorious MLAs in Chandigarh, amid fears of ‘poaching’ by the BJP.

Jairam Ramesh, while commenting on the result of the Gujarat Assembly election, called it a “disappointing” result and added that only Congress was the “only alternative” in Gujarat.

“The result in Gujarat is disappointing. Congress was up against- a 3 party alliance of BJP, AAP, and MIM -the campaign of provocative polarisation –machinery of state and Centre,” Ramesh said adding that the vote shares for the Congress in Gujarat is for rebuilding and revival for the party.

The BJP today registered a phenomenal victory in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state.

The Congress was seen as putting up a token campaign in Gujarat, where it won 77 seats in 2017.

According to the latest information from the Election Commission, BJP is poised to win 156 seats in the 182-member Gujarat assembly having already won 142 seats and leading on 14 seats. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has made its entry into the state assembly having won five seats. The party has increased its vote percentage to 12.82 percent in an indication of its growing presence in the state. (ANI)
