Hopefully We Will Get Another Five Years So Serve: C’garh Deputy CM TS Singh Deo

Ahead of the announcement to be made by the Election Commission of India on the schedule for the upcoming Assembly elections in the five states, Chhattisgarh Deputy CM TS Singh Deo said that he is hopeful that Congress will get another five years to serve the public of the state.

Speaking to ANI, TS Singh Deo said, “The sooner (elections) the better. Nowadays, there are five years to prepare for the elections, whatever work you do from the day you get the responsibility is seen as preparation for elections. We focussed on important issues for the public. Hopefully, we will get another five years to serve.”

Adding that the Congress government in the state has successfully controlled Naxalism in the last five years, he said, “Recently a Naxal incident came up, an incident also surfaced from Ujjain at the same time. Such incidents are less related to the government and more related to morbid psychology. If the government knows that something is going to happen and they don’t take action, then it is the government’s responsibility. But when a person with a morbid mentality commits such crimes, which government can predict this?”

Chhattisgarh BJP President Arun Sao said that it is time for the Congress to depart from the state.

“The people of Chhattisgarh have made up their minds to oust Congress from the state. A new dawn will come. Our state will become crime-free. It’s time for our rivals (Congress) to go,” he said.

In 2018, Congress managed to win 68 seats out of 90 in Chhattisgarh. The party garnered a vote share of 43.9 per cent. BJP won 15 seats and managed to gather vote share of 33.6 per cent.

Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh minister Vishwas Sarang exuded confidence and said that BJP will win more than 150 seats.

“BJP will fight the elections with complete preparation. A very successful model of the double-engine government has been established in Madhya Pradesh under PM Modi’s leadership. MP is a state that is developing very fast. We will win more than 150 seats this time,” he said.

Pointing out that the whole of Madhya Pradesh is waiting for the BJP to go out of power Congress MLA Kunal Chaudhary said, “It is clear that the people of Madhya Pradesh had been waiting for the elections to remove the BJP from power. The people, parties and the whole state are waiting for the BJP to go out of power.”

In Madhya Pradesh, the state will elect legislators from 230 Assembly constituencies. In the 2018 elections, Congress won 114 seats with a vote share of 41.5 per cent while the BJP came second and managed to win 109 seats. Its vote share was 41.6 per cent. However, in 2020, the Congress government lost the majority after the resignations of some MLAs belonging to a faction led by Jyotiraditya Scindia, who later joined the BJP. After this, the BJP formed the government in the state and Shivraj Singh Chouhan was reinstated as the Chief Minister.

The Election Commission of India is set to announce the schedule for the upcoming Assembly elections of Mizoram, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Telangana on Monday. (ANI)

Abhishek Banerjee

ED Issues Fresh Summons To Abhishek Banerjee

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued a fresh summon to Trinamool Congress General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee. He has been asked to join the ED investigation on October 9, sources said.

The ED had earlier summoned Banerjee on October 3. However, Banerjee did not appear at the ED office on that date, owing to the party’s MGNREGA protests in Delhi on the same date.

Banerjee alleged that it was a tactic used by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led central government to squash the protests.

“The fight against the deprivation of WB and its rightful dues shall persist regardless of the obstacles. No force on Earth can hinder my dedication to fight for the people of WB and their fundamental rights. I’ll b in Delhi joining the protest on Oct 2nd & 3rd. STOP ME IF U CAN!” Banerjee said in a post on ‘X’.

The TMC general secretary had also alleged that the ED was summoning on days when he had pre-announced public programs.

“Earlier this month, the ED summoned me on a day coinciding with an important coordinating meeting of #INDIA. I dutifully appeared and complied with the served summons,” Banerjee pointed out in an earlier post on X.

The ED had summoned Abhishek Banerjee under section 50 of the PMLA. The summons to Banerjee came after the central probe agency conducted raids in the office of ‘Leaps and Bounds Pvt Ltd’ which the federal agency alleged was “used for making dubious transactions running into crores of rupees.” The ED claimed that Banerjee is the chief executive officer of the company.

Banerjee was earlier summoned by the ED in connection with the alleged teacher recruitment scam in September.

Abhsihek Banerjee on Tuesday had led TMC protests against the Centre in Delhi over what the party said was the centre’s refusal to provide funds to the state.

The TMC alleged that the Centre has been withholding Rs 15,000 crore in dues to the state under schemes like the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and PM Awas Yojana.

Several TMC leaders including Abhishek Banerjee and Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien were also detained by the Delhi Police during the protest. (ANI)

Rahul Gandhi

Rahul Offers ‘Sewa’ At Golden Temple In Amritsar

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Monday offered ‘Sewa’ after paying obeisance at the Golden Temple in Amritsar.

As a part of the sewa the Congress leader was seen washing dishes at the Golden Temple

Earlier today, Punjab Congress president Raja Waring said that Rahul Gandhi is on his personal, spiritual visit.

“Rahul Gandhi ji is coming to Amritsar Sahib to pay obeisance at Sachkhand Shri Harmandir Sahib. This is his personal, spiritual visit, let’s respect his privacy. Request all party workers to not be physically present for this visit. You all can show your support in spirit and meet him the next time,” the Punjab Congress president posted on X (Formerly Twitter).

Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Punjab comes after the arrest of Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira in connection with a 2015 drugs case as a ‘political vendetta’.

A Punjab court on Saturday sent Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira to 14-day judicial custody in connection with a 2015 drugs case.

“The police demanded a 7-day remand. After seeing the police’s evidence, the judge turned down their request. The court sent him to judicial remand of 14 days,” the counsel said.

Congress MLA Khaira was arrested from his Chandigarh residence on September 28 in connection with an old case registered in 2015 under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The Aam Aadmi Party and Congress– members of the opposition’s INDIA bloc– have been at loggerheads in the border state over the arrest of Khaira.

While the Congress is calling it vindictive politics of AAP, the ruling party is terming the development as part of their “zero-tolerance policy” against drugs.

Earlier in 2015, there were two cases originated with the unearthing of a cross-border drug smuggling network in Fazilka, Punjab, leading to the seizure of heroin, gold biscuits, weapons, cartridges, and Pakistani SIM cards and the second of a fake passport racket being run in Delhi.

On February 16, 2023, a Supreme Court bench of Justices BR Gavai and Vikram Nath quashed the summoning order against Khaira in the drugs case. (ANI)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed his pain at the incidents of crime in Rajasthan and said Congress “has destroyed the state” in the past five years.

Addressing a rally here, the Prime Minster turned emotional and said the maximum “number of cases of crime against women are from Rajasthan”.

“It pains me that the state tops in crime list, in incidents of crime…which state comes on top, in riots…which state is on top, in incidents of stone-pelting… which state is on top, in incidents of atrocities against women and Dalit, which state has worst name…is this why you voted for Congress?” he asked.

He said only Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) can bring all-round development in Rajasthan.

“The development of Rajasthan is the biggest priority of the central government,” he said.

PM Modi unveiled various development projects worth over Rs 7,000 crores in Chittorgarh, earlier in the day.

He said BJP will ensure women’s safety in Rajasthan.

Rajasthan and four other states will go to the polls by the end of this year. (ANI)

Cong Dividing Women On Caste Lines: Modi In C’garh

Taking the attack to the Congress in Chhattisgarh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday accused the ruling party in the poll-bound state of dividing women on the lines of caste.

Further, in a veiled dig at the Congress, which has flagged concerns over the non-provision of an OBC sub-quota, PM Modi hailed the women’s reservation law as a path-breaking legislative effort whose will be felt over the “next thousand years”.

In a further swipe at the Congress, he said the central government, under his leadership, fulfilled one more “guarantee” by bringing a law that had been hanging fire for the last 30 years.

“Our government fulfilled one more pormise that we had made to the people. Under the women’s reservation law, 33 per cent of seats in the Lok Sabha and state legislatures would now be set aside for women. Nari Shakti Adhiniyam is now a reality under the BJP rule,” PM Modi said while addressing a ‘Parivartan Maha Sankalp Rally’ in Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur.

“Our President, Droupadi Murmu, signed it into a law yesterday. Amid all the statements from the Opposition, our mothers and sisters need to remember that this law had been pending for the last three decades,” PM Modi said.

He added that the Congress is worried how this piece of legislation has brought about unity among the women while making them aware of their rights.

“The Congress and its allies are rattled and upset since this legislation secured passage in both Houses of Parliament. They are only worried about the electoral fallout, fearing that the women will shower their blessings on Modi. Afraid of the oneness and awareness that this law has brought about among our women, the Opposition have now resorted to dividing them on the lines of caste. This is nothing but a poll gimmick,” PM Modi said.

“The impact of this law will be felt over the next thousand years. I would urge the women not to fall for the lies of the Opposition,” he added.

PM Modi said only Rs 300 crores were allocated for railways in Chhattisgarh during the previous Congress rule at the Centre. “But this year, we raised this outlay to Rs 6000 crores. This is the ‘Modi Model’, this is a token of my affection for Chhattisgarh. This is my commitment to Chhattisgarh’s development,” PM Modi said.

He also underscored the allocation of a Vande Bharat Express to Chhattisgarh.

“It is the BJP which gave the Vande Bharat train to Chhattisgarh,” PM Modi said. (ANI)

We Will Fight This Vendetta Of AAP Legally: Bajwa

After being not allowed to meet Congress MLA Sukhpal Khaira in Fazilka, Leader of Opposition in the Punjab legislative Assembly Partap Singh Bajwa on Friday said that they will fight this vendetta of the AAP party legally and on the streets.

Congress workers led by Punjab party chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring and Partap Singh Bajwa gathered outside the Fazilka CIA office where they were denied to meet Khaira.

“Went to meet our MLA Sukhpal Khaira in Fazilka today with the senior leadership of Punjab Congress. The police stopped us from meeting him. We will fight this vendetta of the AAP party legally and on the streets. We won’t be cowed down by such pressure tactics,” Bajwa posted on X (Formerly Twitter).

He further condemned the Punjab police and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and said that the Congress has not seen this kind of situation in Punjab.

“I want to condemn Bhawant Mann’s action. Mann thinks he will be in the government forever but he is wrong everyone has to go and his government will also go,” he said while speaking to reporters outside Sardar police station.

“As I am the Leader of the Opposition it is our constitutional right to meet Khaira. We were supposed to meet him in the custody of the police officials but they didn’t allow us. It was a courtesy call and wanted to tell him that the Congress party and each and every leader of the party is with him, nothing more than this,” he said.

He added that the Congress leaders are organizing a dharna in Bathinda against the arrest.

Meanwhile, Punjab unit chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring on Friday said that we will fight till the end.

“Vendetta politics is being done by involving him (Sukhpal Singh Khaira) in an old case. We will first meet Khaira and after meeting him we will decide what we have to do. This is being done to take revenge,” Punjab Congress chief Warring said while speaking to reporters.

Earlier on Thursday, Khaira was arrested from his residence and later was sent to a two-day police remand by Fazlika’s Jalalabad court in connection with a 2015 drugs smuggling case. Fazlika’s Jalalabad court sent Khaira to police custody till September 30.

Sukhpal Khaira was arrested in connection with an old case registered in 2015 under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

As the trial went on, nine smugglers, including Gurdev Singh, Manjit Singh, Harbans Singh, and Subhash Chander, were sentenced in October 2017 in connection with the Fazilka case. As per the chargesheet, Sukhpal Khaira wasclosely associated with Gurdev Singh, the leader of the Fazilka drug smuggling racket, and was accused of having sheltered him.

The primary accusations against Khaira included supporting an international gang of smugglers, having sheltered him and receiving financial benefits from drug traffickers, and enjoying the proceeds of crime.

On February 16, 2023, a Supreme Court bench of Justices BR Gavai and Vikram Nath quashed the summoning order against Khaira in the drugs case.

The arrest of Sukhpal Khaira is expected to further dent the relations of AAP and the Congress which have come together to form the INDIA alliance at the centre. The state unit of the Congress has opposed any tie-up or seatsharing arrangement with the AAP in Punjab. (ANI)

No Guarantee If INDIA Alliance Will Exist Tomorrow: K Kavitha

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC K Kavitha on Thursday asserted that there is no guarantee that today’s Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) alliance will exist tomorrow.

Earlier on August 2, BRS chief and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) made it clear that his party is not siding with either the INDIA alliance or NDA.

“There is no guarantee if today’s INDIA Alliance will exist tomorrow. There will be state elections and seat-sharing issues for the Parliament election before that. The situation would be different after that,” K Kavitha told ANI.

She further said that when the results of the Parliament elections come, the situation would change after that too.

“Historically, pre-poll alliances have not been very successful in this country. So, we will definitely wait. But BRS is a national party with a national agenda and a universal agenda. It is not like the Congress party with one agenda in Karnataka and another agenda in Telangana,” she added.

Kavitha further attacked the BJP saying that the party has done nothing for Telangana for the last 10 years so they will get negative results in Telangana just like Karnataka

“In the South, people always look at which party is raising the issues of their region the most so the result here will be different. BJP has done nothing for Telangana for the last 10 years so they will get negative results in Telangana just like Karnataka,” she said.

Earlier, the opposition parties, united under the banner of the INDIA on August 31-September 1, concluded their third meeting in Maharashtra and adopted resolutions to collectively contest the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections while announcing that seat-sharing arrangements would be finalized as soon as possible through a spirit of give-and-take.

After a two-day meeting of the opposition Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance coalition four main committees were formed in which members of all the political parties were included.

The first meeting of the joint opposition was held in Patna on June 23 and the second meeting was held in Bengaluru on July 17-18.

INDIA alliance is a group of opposition parties, including the Congress and the parties have come together to take on the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which is led by PM Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and prevent it from winning a third straight term at the Centre in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
